He was welcomed by people lining the streets of downtown Scottsboro. One group of kids held American flags and signs that said 'We've got your six' and 'Welcome Home.' One resident, Holder Benson, showed up to give Lt. Porch a warm welcome. Benson said he's known Lt. Porch for years and was upset when he heard that he had been shot. 'When I heard, I was heartbroken,' Benson said. 'Especially that it was one of the officers I knew.' Benson said he's glad Lt. Porch seems to be recovering well and is coming back home. 'It was really nice seeing him, and seeing that big smile on his face made me feel better, knowing that he's okay,' Benson said. Brothers Rick and Randy Stewart also came out to welcome Porch back home. They tell News 19 that they wouldn't have missed it, even though it was on short notice. 'We didn't know until about 30 minutes before, but you drop what you're doing and come on down,' Rick Stewart said. 'His wife and children, you know, they want their husband and daddy home.' Stewart said that the community in Scottsboro has rallied behind the lieutenant since the day of the shooting. 'From the time it happened, we immediately, a group started praying for him that not only would he live but that he would not lose his hand,' he said. Rick's brother, Randy Stewart, told News 19 that Lieutenant Porch lives nearby. 'He lives in my neighborhood, I don't really know him much, but I see his [police] unit a lot,' Randy Stewart said. 'It's just great to have him back.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed. Solve the daily Crossword
