Lieutenant shot in Scottsboro transferred to out-of-state treatment facility
A spokesperson with the department confirmed to News 19 that Lt. Derek Porch was transferred to a facility for treatment after he was wounded in a manhunt on Saturday, July 26.

Early Saturday morning, SPD said they responded to a domestic incident on Ruth Street.
Daniel McCarn led officers on a multi-agency manhunt Saturday in Scottsboro, after police say he led officers on a chase that ended with him crashing, leaving his vehicle and shooting SPD Lt. Derek Porch.
Lt. Porch was initially taken to Huntsville Hospital for treatment, and his injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
Around 9:56 p.m., SPD said they got a call from a business owner on Old Larkinsville Road, who reported seeing a male subject on their security camera matching the description of McCarn. When officers approached him, they took him into custody without incident.
McCarn is charged with attempted murder. He is being held at the Jackson County Jail on a $10 million bond. He has an appearance docket set for August 20 and is set for a Grand Jury on September 8.

Suspect fatally shot during home invasion in Joliet, Illinois, identified
The suspect who was shot and killed by a woman during a home invasion on Friday night was identified. The Will County Coroner identified the man as 36-year-old Shelby Hurd. Joliet police said the woman heard someone break into her home in the 7000 block of Hadrian Drive. She grabbed a gun and her child, and then both hid in a bedroom closet on the second floor. Police said when the suspect entered the bedroom, the woman opened fire, killing Hurd. The suspect, who is unknown to the victim, was wearing gloves and in possession of a screwdriver at the time of the incident. Investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Frisco man shoots at teens in car after "ding dong ditch" prank, police say
A Frisco man faces three felony charges after firing a gun at group of teenagers who attempted a "ding dong ditch" prank at his house. The Frisco Police Department said Monday that 58-year-old Damon Wolfe was arrested for the incident, which happened on the night of July 28. Wolfe had called 911 just before 11 p.m. that night, telling dispatchers that he had shot at someone who tried to kick in his door, police said. Officers who responded to the scene on Scottsdale Way said Wolfe left his residence, walked into the street and fired multiple rounds at a passing car he believed was involved. Later that night, officers responded to a vehicle that had been shot at. Police said the driver and two passengers first said they were shot at while on Legacy Drive, but eventually admitted the shooting happened after doing a "ding dong ditch" prank in a random neighborhood. Police found three bullet holes in the vehicle, and detectives canvassed the neighborhood for evidence. Based on the investigation, police said they found enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant for Wolfe on three counts of aggravated assault, one count for each person in the vehicle. Wolfe was arrested on Aug. 7. In light of this incident, Frisco's police chief is urging parents to warn their kids against participating in certain challenges they may see on social media. "The teens involved in this case are very fortunate they were not shot and killed or seriously injured. For homeowners, it is important to understand that there are legal and criminal consequences for running outside and shooting at a vehicle fleeing the scene. The bullets fired in this offense could have easily struck neighbors' houses and had deadly consequences. This entire incident is completely senseless and avoidable had better decisions been made by all involved," chief David Shilson said.

Man who shot himself before he was killed by sheriff's deputy in Cooper City identified, BSO says
A man who shot himself before he attacked and was killed by a deputy over the weekend in Cooper City has been identified, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. On Saturday, around noon, the sheriff's office said deputies and fire rescue personnel were sent to a shopping plaza on Griffin Road, just west of Palm Avenue, to check out reports of a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound who was making suicidal remarks. When deputies arrived they encountered 18-year-old Boston Cassano, who was suffering from a gunshot wound. According to the sheriff's office, Cassano had been involved in "physical altercation" with his mother at the plaza before shooting himself. When a deputy approached Cassano to help him, investigators said he attacked the deputy, who was forced to fire, investigators said. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue personnel immediately began lifesaving measures, but Cassano died at the scene, the sheriff's office said. Cassano's mother and the deputy were taken to the hospital, according to the sheriff's office. They said neither one was injured by the gunfire and both have since been released. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Per BSO policy, the deputy who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative assignment pending further investigation.
