Alan Ritchson Turns Heads With Unrecognizable Look in First Image for New Thriller
Alan Ritchson Turns Heads With Unrecognizable Look in First Image for New Thriller originally appeared on Men's Fitness. If you thought Alan Ritchson looked unrecognizable after gaining muscle for Reacher, wait until you see his latest look for Motor City. It's sure to make you do a double take. Set in the 1970s, Motor City is Ritchson's bold new action film making its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. Elevation Pictures tweeted a photo of Ritchson—still looking as brawny and bulked as ever. Dare we say he looks even beefier than he does as Jack Reacher? But this time, he's rocking a more rugged look, complete with a full beard and long hair that falls just above his shoulders. Motor City stars Ritchson in the role of John Miller, a Detroit man released from prison, who unleashes a rampage of brutal vengeance on those who framed him. The Detroit-set thriller promises immersive visual storytelling along with choreographed and stylized action sequences."When a 70s-era everyman is framed by a ruthless local gangster, he emerges from prison determined to reclaim his life by any means necessary," the TIFF website reads. Along with Ritchson, the star-studded cast also includes Shailene Woodley, Ben Foster, and Pablo Schreiber, Ben McKenzie, Zoë Kravitz, and Natasha McElhone. The screenplay comes from Chad St. John and is directed by Potsy Ponciroli. "He's [Ritchson] very tall and very muscular, and he's very handsome. He's terrific as a mover. I think he wants to do some deeper work or rather different kinds of work than he's been doing, and that's a joy," Foster shared with Collider at TIFF Ritchson Turns Heads With Unrecognizable Look in First Image for New Thriller first appeared on Men's Fitness on Aug 6, 2025 This story was originally reported by Men's Fitness on Aug 6, 2025, where it first appeared. Classic Detroit-set sitcom 'Martin' gets a spin-off nearly 30 years after ending its run
The Detroit-set "Martin" ended its original run in 1997, but it's never too late for a spin-off. BET+ is greenlighting "Varnell Hill," a workplace comedy that will star Tommy Davidson as the same character he played so memorably during a guest spot on "Martin," the classic sitcom that ran for five seasons on Fox and lives on through syndication. Davidson's Varnell Hill is a late-night TV host who is attempting to stay current in the changing TV marketplace while simultaneously navigating the politics of the corporate executives, advertisers and production team members who are involved with his show, according to BET+. "Martin" star Martin Lawrence, who co-created "Varnell Hill," will be an executive producer of the streaming series. The show's other co-creator, writer and director Bentley Kyle Evans, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Evans previously worked as an executive producer and showrunner on "Martin." He has a long list of TV credits, including a sitcom that premiered just last week: the first original comedy for Detroit's faith-based Impact Network, "Highly Favored," which made its debut on the new streaming platform Impact TV+. Davidson, an original cast member of Fox's 1990-1994 sketch comedy show "In Living Color," made a long-lasting impression on "Martin" with a two-part appearance in November 1993 as Varnell Hill. Varnell inspired Martin to move to Los Angeles and pursue his career dreams. In the second episode, Martin tried to sneak onto Varnell's late-night talk show and, as usual, hilarity ensued. Eventually, Martin opted to return to the Motor City. In a statement on the spin-off, Davidson said: 'Did you miss me? Well, now you don't have to! I'm excited and honored to be a part of such a creative project with the brilliant mind of Martin Lawrence, over 30 years in the making. Fans have requested it and now it's coming to BET+!' The production timeline and premiere of "Varnell Hill" have yet to be revealed.
