Palm leaf handicrafts skill training for women to begin at Chintalapudi on August 18
ELURU To improve the livelihoods of women belonging to Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas (DWCRA) initiative, the district administration will launch a palm leaf handicrafts skill training programme from August 18, said Eluru Collector K. Vetri Selvi. The Collector and Joint Collector P. Dhatri Reddy inspected various handicraft products made from palm leaves by local women here on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Vetri Selvi said that under the guidance of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), women from self-help groups (SHGs) in Chintalapudi and Lingapalem mandals will receive training in crafting items such as flower baskets, hats, garlands, floral bouquets, and decorative dolls from palm leaves. The training will be conducted at Chintalapudi. She explained that after the training, the products would be marketed online and showcased at DRDA-organised exhibitions to increase demand and popularity. The administration will also facilitate access to bank loans and other credit facilities for the artisans. The Collector interacted with the DWCRA women, discussing ways to expand their opportunities and ensure sustainable income through handicrafts. DRDA Project Director R. Vijaya Raju and other officials participated in the programme.

World Tribal Day: A.P. govt. signs 21 MoUs focussing on livelihood generation, agricultural expansion, tourism promotion
The Andhra Pradesh government signed 21 key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) focused on tribal development, including livelihood generation, agricultural expansion, marketing of forest produce, and promotion of tourism, on the occasion of the World Tribal Day programme held at Paderu in Alluri Sitharama Raju district on Saturday (August 9). These agreements were formalised in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Several public and private sector organisations joined hands with the government to promote the marketing of tribal and forest-based products. The Central Rubber Board signed an MoU with ITDA–Rampachodavaram to support rubber cultivation through the development of infrastructure and expansion of plantations. The Rubber Board signed a separate agreement with the Girijan Cooperative Corporation(GCC) to boost the sale of tribal products and Araku Coffee, including goods produced by women under the Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas scheme. Under this agreement, Mission to Eliminate Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) will also establish Araku Coffee kiosks in various parts of the State. To expand its global footprint, GCC has signed an MoU with Hathi Services LLC for the retail sale of Tribal Cooperative Corporation products in the U.S. This includes plans to set up joint retail showrooms across India, which will showcase tribal products from Andhra Pradesh and feature Araku Coffee kiosks, enhancing both marketing and employment opportunities for tribal communities. Leading FMCG company Tata Consumer Products signed an MoU with GCC to take the organic Araku Coffee brand to larger domestic and global markets. Additionally, Starbucks is set to introduce Araku Coffee to its menu. Subko has signed an MoU to create a replicable, sustainable collaboration for the processing of red cherries from tribal farmers at Chintapalli. Meanwhile, ITC signed an MoU with ITDA-Paderu to expand its coffee plantations by an additional 1,600 hectares, supplementing its current operations across 4,010 hectares, in partnership with a local farmers' cooperative. The Coffee Board has also signed an MoU for expanding coffee cultivation in tribal areas, ensuring quality production and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. To strengthen the marketing of products made by tribal women, Frontier Marketing and Easy Mart signed agreements with ....? to facilitate sales in rural markets. Meanwhile, Equip signed an MoU with ITDA to integrate turmeric cultivation, set up processing units and develop necessary infrastructure for value addition and marketing. ISB (Indian School of Business) signed a significant MoU ITDA-Paderu to spread awareness on the commercial potential of seasonal forest products manufactured by tribal women's groups. In the tourism sector, OYO Homes and Homey Huts have entered into an MoU with ITDA-Paderu to establish homestays in tribal regions. The initiative aims to provide authentic local experiences for visitors while enhancing livelihood opportunities for the tribal families. The Change Society has signed an MoU the ITDA to introduce value-based education for tribal students. Additional MoUs have also been signed on natural farming, marketing infrastructure, and sustainable livelihood models.

Prevent disease outbreak, Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu directs officials
VIJAYAWADA: With the onset of monsoon, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu stressed the need to prevent disease outbreak, directing officials to ensure effective drainage, clean surroundings, and safe drinking water. On Saturday, he held a comprehensive review with senior officials from the Municipal Administration and Finance Departments. The meeting focused on solid waste management, infrastructure creation, and the progress of initiatives under the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA). Highlighting women's empowerment, Naidu directed MEPMA officials to enhance product quality through continuous training for self-help groups (SHGs) and to promote DWCRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) products via e-commerce. He urged the creation of systems for municipalities and corporations to generate their own electricity for street lighting, alongside efforts to conserve energy and improve air quality. Expressing concern over poultry waste being dumped in urban areas, he called for a special policy and advocated circular economy practices in waste disposal. Naidu called for the swift completion of sewage treatment plants (STPs) and the elimination of legacy waste, while establishing systems for regular garbage collection.

₹2,014-crore worth of development works sanctioned within a year in Kurnool: Nimmala Ramanaidu
Minister for Water Resources Nimmala Ramanaidu on Wednesday said that the coalition government has sanctioned ₹2,014-crore worth of development works in Kurnool district within a year of coming to power. Addressing a public meeting at Tadakanapalle village of Kallur mandal, the Minister said that as many as 2,294 works were being approved under this funding. Earlier, he inaugurated CC roads, laid at ₹6.78 crore, in Tadakanapalle, and a BT road from Kurnool to Doddipadu via Anugonda, built at ₹1.41 crore. The Minister said that the women groups of Kurnool district were actively involved in various empowerment schemes, and called it a 'matter of pride for the nation.' He reiterated that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was a visionary who heralded true meaning to women empowerment in the State. Mr. Ramanaidu then highlighted the difference between the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) regime and the present NDA rule in the State. He recalled that it was the Chandrababu Naidu-led government that had increased the pensions to ₹2,000 in 2014. However, the government under Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy took five years to offer a hike of ₹1,000. He credited the Chief Minister for introducing landmark welfare schemes like Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas (DWCRA) and the 'Deepam' scheme. The Minister said that 563 hectares of drip irrigation projects had already been completed in the district. He added that the State government was committed to the early completion of the ₹80,000-crore Polavaram-Banakacherla project. Kurnool MP B. Nagaraju, Panyam MLA G. Charitha Reddy, and District Collector P. Ranjith Basha were also present.

Task DWCRA groups with converting wet garbage into compost, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Naidu tells officials
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to speed up preparation of the action plan on effective waste management in order to keep the villages clean, and to assign the responsibility of converting wet garbage into compost on-site to the DWCRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) groups. Addressing a review meeting on circular economy at the Secretariat on Thursday, Mr. Naidu said waste should be collected from houses daily, and steps taken for converting wet waste into compost, and handing over the dry waste to agencies for disposal. He also ordered the officials to set up 52 clusters across the State (two per district) for grading of waste, and not to let the dumping of waste on road margins. The entire system of waste disposal should be streamlined by October 2, the Chief Minister told the officials, and to present awards to Gram Panchayats and individuals performing well in waste management on the given date. The Panchayati Raj Department, Swachha Andhra Corporation and AP Pollution Control Board should make concerted efforts to achieve the desired results, he said. Circular Economy Policy Mr. Naidu wanted studies to be conducted on how waste generated in agriculture and allied sectors could contribute to the circular economy, and a Circular Economy Policy to be drafted on the basis of the Rajasthan model. Also, he stressed the need to expedite the construction of the waste-to-energy plants coming up in Nellore, Rajahmundry, Kadapa and Kurnool.
