Ahilyabai Holkar's tercentenary: PM Modi to attend women empowerment convention in Bhopal today

In a landmark celebration of women empowerment, the Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Women Empowerment Grand Convention will be held in Bhopal today, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending the event. Organised by Matri Shakti (women power), the event marks the inauguration of the 300th birth anniversary year of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, an icon of good governance, self reliance, and women empowerment. 'On behalf of the 85 million people of Madhya Pradesh, I extend a heartfelt welcome to the Prime Minister. It is a matter of great fortune for us that the celebration of the virtuous Devi Ahilyabai Holkar's birth anniversary, to be held over the coming year, is being inaugurated today from the soil of Madhya Pradesh,' Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said in an official statement. Ahilyabai Holkar, the revered 18th-century ruler of the Holkar dynasty, is remembered for rebuilding over 130 temples across India, establishing Maheshwar as a cultural and commercial hub. Her contributions also include granting women rights in property, the right of a widow to adopt a son, and the right to remarry, and made rules to prohibit the dowry system. To promote holistic development in the state, the Chief Minister announced a 'historic' initiative called Destination Cabinet, aimed at promoting tourism. 'This initiative realises the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote tourism. With the aim of remembering our glorious heritage along with modern development and moving forward by drawing inspiration from ideal heroes, we held two cabinet meetings in memory of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar,' the CM said. Two special cabinet meetings under the 'Destination Cabinet' initiative were also conducted in Maheshwar and Indore, aimed at implementing prohibition in 19 sacred sites of the state. The state will also launch the Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Training Programme. Carrying forward the legacy of Ahilyabai Holkar, the Madhya Pradesh government also launched the Devi Ahilyabai Women Empowerment Mission, targeting education, health, safety, and economic self-reliance for women. The mission supports goals like improving the girl child sex ratio, reducing maternal mortality, and boosting female participation in the workforce. The initiative aims to strengthen the fourth pillar of the guiding mantra of GYAN — (Garib, Yuva, Kisan, Nari — Poor, Youth, Farmer, Woman).

CM: Life & contributions of Ahilyabai Holkar inspire all

1 2 Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday described the life and contributions of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar as a "timeless source of inspiration" for Indian society. Yogi was speaking after inaugurating an exhibition at GPO Park organised under 'Punyashlok' Pujya Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Tricentenary Year Memorial Campaign-2025. The CM said the exhibition will educate the people about Lokmata's contributions while providing an opportunity to draw inspiration from her exemplary work in promoting social harmony, national unity and public welfare. "The past is not merely meant to be read about but to be reflected upon and learn from it. It is our responsibility to correct historical missteps and embrace the glorious chapters of our history as ideals," he said. Yogi noted that this exhibition offers a valuable opportunity for introspection. "Devi Ahilyabai Holkar's nationwide vision established her as a remarkable symbol of good governance, security and public order," he said. The Chief Minister said: "While we may not have witnessed Lokmata Ahilyabai's era firsthand, over the past 11 years we have seen a living reflection of her ideals in the governance model of Prime Minister Modi. From Kashi Vishwanath Dham to Kedarnath, from Muktinath in Nepal to Somnath, and from Mahakal to Rameswaram — efforts to reconnect with India's spiritual and cultural heritage are evident under Prime Minister Modi's leadership. " He also expressed satisfaction that consistent efforts are being made to bring the life and legacy of the nation's great personalities closer to the masses. "As part of this mission, Uttar Pradesh is hosting a series of events from May 21 to 31, including seminars, essay competitions, exhibitions, drama series and folk music programmes, under the 'Punyashlok' Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Janm Trishatabdi Varsh Smriti Abhiyan," he said. Highlighting country's progress, the CM said today's India is not only a nation of ideas but also a vibrant example of infrastructure-led development. "With the expansion of highways, expressways, rail networks, metro systems, rapid rail corridors, airways, and waterways, a new image of India is emerging. The health sector, too, has seen transformative change — while the country had only one AIIMS for decades after Independence, six more were built under former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and now 23 additional AIIMS have been established under Prime Minister Modi, presenting a modern model of healthcare. " He further said the nation was steadily advancing toward the goal of 'One District, One Medical College,' while the National Education Policy is proving to be a milestone in reforming the education sector. A host of senior BJP leaders, including party national general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh, UP BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary, UP BJP general secretary (organisation) Dharampal Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and jal shakti minister Swatantra Dev Singh also attended the event. Maurya said this exhibition is a matter of inspiration for the youth, especially for daughters. "Along with efficient governance, Lokmata showed the revival of not one but many religious places which were destroyed by the Mughals," he said.

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurates two-day literary conference at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday inaugurated a two-day 'Literary Conference: How Much Has Literature Changed?' at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi, President's Secretariat said. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that since her student days, she has had a feeling of respect and gratitude towards literature and litterateurs. With time, this feeling of special respect for literature has become even deeper. It was her wish that many litterateurs should come to Rashtrapati Bhavan. She appreciated the Ministry of Culture and Sahitya Akademi for organizing this conference. The President stated that our country boasts a multitude of languages and an infinite diversity of literary traditions. But in this diversity, the vibration of Indianness is felt. This sense of Indianness is also deeply ingrained in the collective subconscious of our country. She said that she considers all the languages and dialects of the country as her language and dialect and the literature of all languages as her own. The President said that the establishment of enduring human values amidst changing contexts is the identity of timeless literature. As society and social institutions have changed, challenges and priorities have changed, and changes have been seen in literature as well. But there is something in literature that remains relevant even after centuries. The literary contexts of affection and compassion keep changing but their emotional background does not change. Taking inspiration from literature, human dreams and makes them come true. The President said that today's literature cannot be didactic. Today's literature cannot be a sermon. Today's literature cannot be a book of morals. Today's writer walks along like a fellow traveler, sees and shows; experiences, and makes others experience. She expressed confidence that in this literary gathering, a constructive dialogue will be established between the speakers and the participants. On Friday, the Conference will deliberate on topics such as 'Feminist Literature of India: Breaking New Grounds'; 'Change in Literature vs. Literature of Change'; and 'New Directions of Indian Literature in Global Perspective'. It will conclude with the saga of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar celebrating her 300th anniversary. (ANI)
