Ahilyabai Holkar's tercentenary: PM Modi to attend women empowerment convention in Bhopal today
In a landmark celebration of women empowerment, the Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Women Empowerment Grand Convention will be held in Bhopal today, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending the event.
Organised by Matri Shakti (women power), the event marks the inauguration of the 300th birth anniversary year of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, an icon of good governance, self reliance, and women empowerment.
'On behalf of the 85 million people of Madhya Pradesh, I extend a heartfelt welcome to the Prime Minister. It is a matter of great fortune for us that the celebration of the virtuous Devi Ahilyabai Holkar's birth anniversary, to be held over the coming year, is being inaugurated today from the soil of Madhya Pradesh,' Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said in an official statement.
Ahilyabai Holkar, the revered 18th-century ruler of the Holkar dynasty, is remembered for rebuilding over 130 temples across India, establishing Maheshwar as a cultural and commercial hub.
Her contributions also include granting women rights in property, the right of a widow to adopt a son, and the right to remarry, and made rules to prohibit the dowry system.
To promote holistic development in the state, the Chief Minister announced a 'historic' initiative called Destination Cabinet, aimed at promoting tourism. 'This initiative realises the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote tourism. With the aim of remembering our glorious heritage along with modern development and moving forward by drawing inspiration from ideal heroes, we held two cabinet meetings in memory of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar,' the CM said.
Two special cabinet meetings under the 'Destination Cabinet' initiative were also conducted in Maheshwar and Indore, aimed at implementing prohibition in 19 sacred sites of the state. The state will also launch the Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Training Programme.
Carrying forward the legacy of Ahilyabai Holkar, the Madhya Pradesh government also launched the Devi Ahilyabai Women Empowerment Mission, targeting education, health, safety, and economic self-reliance for women. The mission supports goals like improving the girl child sex ratio, reducing maternal mortality, and boosting female participation in the workforce.
The initiative aims to strengthen the fourth pillar of the guiding mantra of GYAN — (Garib, Yuva, Kisan, Nari — Poor, Youth, Farmer, Woman).

New Delhi (India) June 3 (ANI): A group of INDIA bloc leaders is expected to gather at the Constitution Club on Tuesday to demand a special Parliament session. Over 200 MPs from the Lok Sabha signed a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a special session. The meeting will be represented by Congress MP Deependra Hooda. According to the sources, a media briefing will be held at 12:30 PM. Earlier, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Kumar Jha wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to call a special session of Parliament to discuss the recent cross-border military operations against Pakistan. In his letter, Jha said the people of India feel they are being 'kept in the dark,' and deserve clarity on the government's decisions and their broader impact. 'I am writing to urge you to convene a special session of the Parliament to discuss the recent cross-border operations against Pakistan, its implications, and the path ahead.' He said citizens demand 'transparency, responsiveness, and accountability.' He expressed concern over statements by US President Donald Trump, who reportedly claimed credit for mediating peace talks between India and Pakistan. 'The United States President Donald Trump has claimed credit for brokering peace between India and Pakistan no less than twelve times since the operations began.' the letter reads. He concluded the letter by saying that the government's refusal to hold a special session so far could indicate either a lack of confidence in its version of events or an attempt to avoid scrutiny, both of which, he said, are harmful to the country. 'The government's reluctance so far to convene a special session suggests either lack of self assurance in its own narrative or deliberate obfuscation. Neither serves national interests,' the letter reads. Earlier on Saturday, Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge demanded a special session of Parliament concerning Operation Sindoor, alleging that government had 'misled the nation' and instead of clarifying US President Donald Trump's assertions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'is on an election blitz, taking personal credit for the valour of the Armed Forces'. In a post on X, Kharge asked what were the conditions for cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan. 'Is India and Pakistan now again hyphenated? What are the conditions of the ceasefire agreement? 140 Cr Patriotic Indians deserve to know this,' he added. Congress has been demanding a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Additionally, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged the Union Government to convene a special session of the Parliament upon the safe return of the delegation, believing that people of this great nation have the foremost right to be informed about the recent conflict, referring to the military confrontation between India and Pakistan. Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary MA Baby also wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to convene a special session of Parliament to address the de-escalation of hostilities with Pakistan. On May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. After India's strike on terror infrastructure, Pakistan responded with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and the International Border, as well as attempted drone attacks targeting civilian areas along the border regions. In response, India neutralised Pakistani air defence apparatus, radar infrastructure, and communication centres, and inflicted heavy damage across 11 airbases in Pakistan. Hoax bomb call triggers panic at Jammu railway station
A hoax call of a bomb triggered panic and put security forces on their toes at the busy Jammu railway station on Sunday evening, officials said. However, the unidentified call later turned out to be a false alarm. 'A hoax call was received from an unknown caller, who claimed that a bomb has been planted at Jammu railway station. A swift and thorough check of the station was carried out but no suspicious object was found,' a police officer said. However, the process to identify the caller was underway. Security has been stepped up across the Jammu region ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to inaugurate the Vande Bharat train from Katra to Kashmir on Friday. 'PM Modi is likely to visit the world's highest railway arc bridge over the Chenab and address a public gathering at Katra stadium,' said a state government official. A senior railway official said: 'We were prepared for the train's inauguration on April 19 but inclement weather followed by the Pahalgam attack on April 22 and Operation Sindoor on May 7 delayed the event.' Union home minister Amit Shah had visited Jammu and Poonch on May 29 and 30 to assess the security situation in the region and meet people affected by the recent Pakistani shelling. He handed over job letters to the kin of those killed in the enemy shelling from May 7 to 10. In Poonch district alone, 14 people, including four children, were killed in the shelling.

Looking ahead, the number of operational airports is projected to rise from the current 162 to 350 by 2047. Additionally, air cargo volumes are expected to grow significantly, reaching 10 million metric tonnes by the end of this decade, up from 3.5 million. In five years, India is set to become a $4 billion maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hub, PM Modi said, adding, 'India should not be viewed merely as an aviation market, but as a value-chain leader. From design to delivery, India is becoming an integral part of the global aviation supply chain.' 'We are working on a futuristic roadmap to maximise India's potential. In 2014, the country had 74 operational airports, which have now expanded to 162 and will increase to 350 in 2047. We are now the third largest aviation market globally. Our airlines have over 2,000 new aircraft on order,' he continued. Noting the success of DigiYatra, the system that makes travelling paperless, PM Modi said that other countries should adopt a similar mechanism, adding, 'Digi Yatra stands as a secure and smart solution, serving as a model of inspiration for the Global South.' 'There are three foundational pillars driving India's aviation sector: A vast market - not merely a collection of consumers but a reflection of India's aspirational society. A strong demographic and talent pool where young innovators are pioneering breakthroughs in AI, robotics, and clean energy.
