MADINAH, July 18 (Bernama-SPA) -- A total of 40,103,344 worshippers have visited the Prophet's Mosque during Hajj season 1446H, according to the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque. Accroding to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the number of worshippers was recorded from Dhu Al-Qi'dah 1 to Dhu Al-Hijjah 29, reflecting achieving in the kingdom's ongoing efforts to facilitate visitor reception, enabling them to perform their rituals in a secure and tranquil environment. The authority emphasised its commitment to enhancing services within the Prophet's Mosque and its courtyards to meet the needs of worshippers and improve the overall religious experience for all visitors.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said it received a report from Indonesia's airport operator "regarding a bomb threat sent by an unidentified person via electronic mail". The email at 07:30 am (0030 GMT) contained a threat to "blow up" Saudia Airlines flight SV 5276 which was flying from the Saudi city of Jeddah to the Indonesian capital Jakarta, it said in a statement. The flight was carrying 442 hajj pilgrims, including 207 men and 235 women, it added. "Upon identifying security and safety threats, the pilot decided to divert the landing to the nearest airport," said InJourney Airports, Indonesia's airport operator. A transport ministry official told AFP the plane was still in Medan and Flightradar24 showed the plane there. The airport evacuated the pilgrims and a bomb disposal unit swept the plane for explosive devices, the aviation body said in its statement. - AFP

Mashaer Metro serves 1.87 million passengers during Hajj

Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — The Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) transported approximately 1.87 million passengers, including pilgrims and Hajj officials, with operating 2,154 trips during the Hajj 2025. The SAR operated Mashaer Metro Train between the stations of Mina, Muzdalifah, and Arafat during the period from Dhul Hijjah 7 until the end of the Days of Tashreeq (Dhul Hijjah 13). The operational plan for the Mashaer Metro Train during the Hajj season included five main phases. The first phase, from Dhu Al-Hijjah 7 to 8, transported over 27,000 passengers across all stations. The second phase carried 282,000 pilgrims from Mina to Arafat, followed by the third phase, which transported 294,000 pilgrims from Arafat to Muzdalifah. In the fourth phase, more than 349,000 pilgrims were transported from Muzdalifah to Mina. The final phase, which lasted until sunset on the last day of Tashreeq, recorded the movement of over 920,000 passengers to and from Mina 3 (Jamarat) station. CEO of SAR Dr. Bashar Al-Malik expressed appreciation for the support and empowerment of the Saudi leadership, which contributed to the integration of efforts and services offered to pilgrims, including transportation through the Mashaer Metro Train. He noted that the successful completion of the operational plan reflects the efforts of SAR employees and the effective coordination with operational and security agencies, supported by extensive preparatory work, including simulation exercises and full-scale trial runs, ensuring the highest levels of readiness and safety.
