Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to additional assault charges following an alleged nightclub attack The R&B musician also pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing grievous bodily harm in London last month Brown is accused of attacking music producer Abe Diaw at a London nightclub in 2023Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to additional assault charges following an alleged nightclub attack in 2023. On Friday, July 11, the R&B musician appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London on Friday for his latest court hearing, where he pleaded guilty to two more charges relating to the alleged attack of music producer Abe Diaw at a London nightclub in 2023, per the BBC. According to the outlet, Brown, 36, pleaded not guilty to causing actual bodily harm to the music producer, and he also denied the charge of having an offensive weapon — a tequila bottle — in the alleged attack. Prosecutors described the alleged incident as "unprovoked," per the BBC. While leaving the courtroom, Brown — who sported a tweed suit with dark-rimmed glasses — could be seen briefly waving to fans who showed up, according to the publication, according to the outlet. On June 20, the "Forever" artist also pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing grievous bodily harm during the alleged incident. According to the publication, Brown is set to face trial on Oct. 24, 2026. On May 15, PEOPLE confirmed that Brown was arrested by London's Metropolitan Police in Manchester, England in connection with the alleged attack on Diaw. 'A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm," said the Metropolitan Police in a statement shared with PEOPLE. "He has been taken into custody where he remains." The added: "The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on [Feb. 19, 2023]. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.'' Days later, on May 21, he was released on a $6.7 million bail and was able to continue his Breezy Bowl tour, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of his career. is now available in the Apple App Store! According to the BBC, Brown needed to pay $4.5 million of his bail "immediately" and had a week to pay off the remainder. He was also instructed by the courts to "surrender his passport if he is not traveling on tour" and to keep them apprised of where he resided. While awaiting trial, Brown also hasn't been permitted to leave the U.K. and is unable to reach out to his accuser or visit the club where the alleged attack took place. In November 2023, Brown was sued by Diaw over the alleged attack. At the time, PEOPLE examined the complaint, which accused Brown of using "crushing blows" to hit Diaw in the head. In the complaint, he claimed that he suffered "lacerations on his head and torn ligaments in his leg" in addition to "permanent" damage and "severe emotional distress." A bottle of Don Julio 1942 tequila was reportedly used in the attack. Prosecutor Hannah Nicholls alleged that there was CCTV footage of Brown assaulting Diaw during the initial hearing. On Friday, June 27, Diaw requested that the civil suit be dismissed with prejudice, per court documents from Los Angeles County obtained by Billboard. Because of that, he can't refile, per the publication. However, Brown still faces criminal charges as part of the ongoing U.K. criminal case. Read the original article on People

Chris Brown to appear in court over alleged 'bottle attack' charge

R&B singer Chris Brown is due to appear in court over an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub. Last month, the 36-year-old US musician pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to Abraham Diaw at the Tape venue, a private members' club in Hanover Square, Mayfair, on February 19, 2023. On Friday, Brown is due to make another appearance at London's Southwark Crown for a plea hearing amid preparations for his trial which is set for October. His co-defendant, US national Omololu Akinlolu, 39, has also pleaded not guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. Both men are further charged with assaulting Mr Diaw, occasioning him actual bodily harm, with Brown also facing one count of having an offensive weapon, a bottle, in a public place. The two-time Grammy award winner, whose hits include Run It! and Go Crazy, has managed to press on with his scheduled international tour despite his legal battle. He is on conditional bail and performed in Cardiff in June as part of a stadium tour which was billed as a celebration of the past 20 years of his career. He had to pay a £5 million security fee to the court as part of the bail agreement, which is a financial guarantee to ensure a defendant returns to court and may be forfeited if they breach bail conditions. At his last court appearance, his defence counsel Sallie Bennett-Jenkins KC told the hearing it had been difficult to discuss matters with her client while he is working. Manchester Magistrates' Court previously heard that Mr Diaw was standing at the bar of the Tape nightclub when he was struck several times with a bottle, and then pursued to a separate area of the nightclub where he was punched and kicked repeatedly. Brown was arrested at Manchester's Lowry Hotel at 2am on May 15 by detectives from the Metropolitan Police. He is said to have flown into Manchester Airport on a private jet in preparation for the UK tour dates. Brown was released from HMP Forest Bank in Salford, Greater Manchester, on May 21. Shortly after being released from prison, Brown posted an Instagram story referencing his upcoming tour which said 'FROM THE CAGE TO THE STAGE!!! BREEZYBOWL.
