RCMP deems death a homicide after remains found north of Winnipeg

On Monday, Manitoba RCMP identified the victim as 75-year-old Dimitar Rachev. It's been half a year since police discovered Rachev's remains at a property off Highway 7 in the RM of Rockwood. Police have not provided details as to how Rachev died. However, at the time of the discovery on Nov. 21, 2024, police said it was believed he had died within the last month. Mounties are now looking to speak with anyone who had contact with Rachev anytime after Nov. 1, 2024. Earlier this month, major crimes services, along with a forensic anthropology team, returned to the property where the remains were found to do a second ground search. Police have confirmed the identity of a man whose remains were found on a rural Manitoba property last year and say they're investigating his death as a homicide. The remains of Dimitar Rachev, 75, were found in the rural municipality of Rockwood on Nov. 21, 2024, Manitoba RCMP said in a news release on Monday. Major crime services officers and a forensic anthropology team revisited the location on May 15 and did a secondary ground search. Mounties say they want to speak with anyone who had contact with Rachev after Nov. 1, 2024. RCMP also released two surveillance photos of a man who police believe may have information, and are asking for help finding him. Anyone with information is asked to call Stonewall RCMP at 204-467-5591, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or by submitting a secure tip online at
