Jonathan Anderson named Dior's first men's and women's designer

French fashion house Dior named Northern Irish designer Jonathan Anderson on Monday as the first-ever creative director for both its women's and men's collections. Anderson was appointed after last week's departure of Italian Maria Grazia Chiuri, who had presided over its women's collections for the last nine years. Anderson had already been named as artistic director of the men's collection in April, and will now become the first person to run both collections at Dior, which is owned by French luxury giant LVMH. "Jonathan Anderson is one of the greatest creative talents of his generation," said Bernard Arnault, LVMH's billionaire chief executive. "His incomparable artistic signature will be a crucial asset in writing the next chapter of the history of the House of Dior," Arnault said. Anderson, 40, quit Loewe in March after more than a decade in which he turned around the fortunes of the heritage Spanish brand, which is also owned by LVMH. An influential tastemaker with many A-list fans, Anderson made the previously rather sleepy label, best known for its handbags, hot. "It is a great honor to join the House of Dior as Creative Director of both women's and men's collections," Anderson said in the company statement. "I have always been inspired by the rich history of this house, its depth, and empathy. I look forward to working alongside its legendary ateliers to craft the next chapter of this incredible story," he said. Anderson will present his first collection, Dior Men Summer 2026, at the Paris Fashion Week on June 27. 'Creative and modern vision' There had been much speculation that Anderson, renowned for his creative flights of fancy, might take over both Dior's men's and women's collections, which some observers had seen as needing fresh impetus. Anderson, the son of former Irish rugby international Willie Anderson, is known as a low-key figure, who often appears dressed casually at the end of his shows. He trained at the London College of Fashion and began his career in Prada's marketing department before launching his own brand, JW Anderson, in 2008. At Loewe, he built a reputation for sharp tailoring and generous use of luxurious materials such as leather and metal. He launched a new modern classic bag -- the Puzzle -- and dressed celebrities from Beyonce to Rihanna. Dior boomed after Chiuri took over the women's collection in 2016, with the Italian designer praised for her modernity and feminist activism. Some observers, however, had suggested the classic French house was growing stale. Its growth is of crucial financial and dynastic importance to Arnault, who placed his daughter Delphine in charge of Dior in February 2023. "I am delighted to welcome Jonathan Anderson to lead the women's and men's creations of the House," Delphine Arnault said. "I have followed his career with great interest since he joined the LVMH group over 10 years ago. I am convinced that he will bring a creative and modern vision to our House," she said. - AFP

Irishman Jonathan Anderson makes history as creative director for Dior

JONATHAN Anderson has been named creative director of Dior's women's, men's, and haute couture lines, becoming the first person since Christian Dior himself to lead all three branches of the French fashion house. Anderson, 40, was born in Magherafelt in Northern Ireland and is the son of former Ireland rugby captain Willie Anderson. His father famously led Ireland against the All Blacks in the late 1980s and remains a revered figure in Irish sport. Before launching his own label, JW Anderson, in 2008, he studied at the London College of Fashion and worked in Prada's marketing department. He soon moved up in the luxury world, most notably as creative director at Loewe, where he spent over a decade redefining the brand's aesthetic. Now, in his most prominent role yet, Anderson steps into full creative control of Dior amid major leadership changes at the brand. The departures of Maria Grazia Chiuri and Kim Jones opened the door for his appointment, and Anderson is making history as the first to direct all facets of the house in the modern era. 'It is a great honour to join the house of Dior,' Anderson said in a joint statement with the fashion house. 'I have always been inspired by the rich history of this house, its depth, and empathy.' His first collection, Dior Men Summer 2026, will premiere at Paris Fashion Week on June 27. The appointment has been praised by both Delphine Arnault, Dior's chair and CEO, and her father, Bernard Arnault, head of LVMH. 'Jonathan is one of the most talented designers of his generation,' said Delphine. 'I am convinced he will bring a creative and modern vision to our house, inspired by the fabulous story of Monsieur Dior and the codes he created.' Anderson has become a defining voice in global fashion, designing standout looks for Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Harry Styles. He has had a remarkable rise from a small town in Northern Ireland to the top of the global fashion industry. See More: Co. Derry, Dior, Fashion, Jonathan Anderson, Willie Anderson

Dior names Jonathan Anderson creative director of women's, men's, and haute couture collections

Dior has announced Jonathan Anderson as creative director of women's, men's, and haute couture collections, marking the first time in the brand's history that one designer has handled all three disciplines since the passing of its founder Christian Dior. 'Dior is thrilled to welcome Jonathan Anderson, a visionary creator with a remarkable career, as creative director of women's, men's, and haute couture collections of the House,' it said in a release Monday morning. The appointment of the Northern Ireland-born designer means that for the first time at Christian Dior Couture, since Monsieur Dior himself, a creative director will work on all the women's, men's, and haute couture collections, further strengthening its unified global creative vision. He succeeds the duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Kim Jones, who respectively handled couture/womenswear, and menswear separately. 'I am delighted to welcome Jonathan Anderson to lead the women's and men's creations of the House. I have followed his career with great interest since he joined the LVMH group over 10 years ago. I am convinced that he will bring a creative and modern vision to our House, inspired by the fabulous story of Monsieur Dior and the codes he created. He will be supported by our teams and our incredible Ateliers who will bring his creativity to life,' said Delphine Arnault, chairman and chief executive officer of Christian Dior Couture. Anderson joins Dior after Loewe, one of nearly a dozen runway fashion houses controlled by LVMH, the giant French luxury conglomerate. 'Jonathan Anderson is one of the greatest creative talents of his generation. His incomparable artistic signature will be a crucial asset in writing the next chapter of the history of the House of Dior,' added Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH, and Delphine's father. Arnault senior had already revealed at LVMH's AGM that Anderson was taking over from Jones on menswear. Today's announcement had been widely expected for months. 'It is a great honor to join the House of Dior as creative director of both women's and men's collections. I have always been inspired by the rich history of this House, its depth, and empathy. I look forward to working alongside its legendary Ateliers to craft the next chapter of this incredible story. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Delphine Arnault and Bernard Arnault for their trust and loyalty over the years,' said Anderson. The 40-year-old will present his first collection, Dior Men Summer 2026, in Paris on June 27.

Jonathan Anderson steps in as Dior's new creative director following Maria Grazia Chiuri's exit

Christian Dior has appointed Jonathan Anderson as its new creative director, overseeing women's, men's, and haute couture lines, succeeding Maria Grazia Chiuri. Anderson's debut collection is slated for the Men's Summer 2026 show in Paris. His appointment follows his departure from Loewe, signaling a potential shift in Dior's design direction, blending heritage with contemporary innovation. In a defining moment for the French fashion landscape, Christian Dior has ushered in a new era of design leadership. After nearly a decade at the creative helm of Dior's womenswear division, Maria Grazia Chiuri has officially stepped down, making room for a fresh perspective. The House has named Jonathan Anderson as its new creative director, a role that will now span across Dior's women's, men's, and haute couture lines. The news, which many insiders had been expecting, was confirmed by Dior on Instagram. The announcement featured a poised portrait of Anderson alongside the caption: 'Dior is thrilled to welcome Jonathan Anderson as Creative Director of women's, men's, and haute couture collections of the House. Jonathan Anderson will present his first collection, Dior Men Summer 2026, in Paris on June 27, 2025.' For Anderson, the appointment marks a monumental moment in his career and one that aligns with his long-standing admiration for the historic brand. Reflecting on the opportunity, he shared: 'It is a great honour to join the House of Dior as Creative Director of both women's and men's collections. I have always been inspired by the rich history of this House, its depth, and empathy. I look forward to working alongside its legendary Ateliers to craft the next chapter of this incredible story. ' He also expressed gratitude to LVMH executives Bernard Arnault and Delphine Arnault for their support and belief in his creative journey. Anderson's first official outing for Dior is slated for the Men's Summer 2026 show, scheduled for June 27 during Paris Fashion Week. The collection is expected to be closely watched, not only as his Dior debut but also as a signal of the direction he intends to take the house in. Chiuri's departure marks the end of a transformative chapter at Dior. Over her nine-year tenure, she redefined the maison's feminist narrative, spotlighted female creatives, and seamlessly merged contemporary sensibilities with traditional craftsmanship. Her Cruise 2026 show in Rome, an opulent fusion of couture and ready-to-wear, served as her final bow, one that elegantly summarised her legacy. For fashion watchers, Anderson's elevation to this role was less of a shock and more of an anticipated reveal. His recent, discreet exit from Loewe, where he spent more than a decade turning the Spanish heritage brand into a powerhouse of modern design, had already sparked speculation. Known for his cerebral yet wearable aesthetic, Anderson has long been a tastemaker with a distinct point of view, a quality Dior appears eager to harness. With his arrival, all eyes are now on how Dior will evolve. Will Anderson maintain the poetic romanticism that Chiuri championed, or will he usher in a more experimental, sculptural design ethos akin to his work at JW Anderson and Loewe? Either way, a bold new chapter begins for Dior - one that blends the legacy of Parisian haute couture with the contemporary edge of one of Britain's most inventive fashion minds.
