Operation Sindoor: Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi meets border dwellers, lauds BSF women troops
Jammu, May 28 (UNI) Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi on Wednesday evening met the border residents and also lauded the role of BSF women troops during 'Operation Sindoor' during her visit to the Suchetgarh border in R S Sector of Jammu. As part of a broader initiative led by the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu, a series of celebrity visits across Jammu has been launched to show solidarity with the armed forces and civilians besides inspiring revival of tourism in the region. The first in this initiative was the visit of renowned Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi, who arrived in Jammu to extend her support and amplify the message of peace, resilience and hope. Qureshi engaged in an exclusive interaction with the stakeholders from the Jammu and Katra Hotel and Restaurant Associations. The stakeholders appealed to her to promote the scenic beauty, hospitality and cultural richness of Jammu through word-of-mouth and her public platforms. They emphasized that celebrity endorsements can play a vital role in rebuilding tourist confidence and encouraging footfall in the region. The actress also visited the family of late Raj Kumar Thapa, Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Rajouri, who tragically lost his life in a recent attack. She offered her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and paid tribute to his sacrifice for the nation. Later in the evening, a cultural programme was organised at the Indo-Pak border, Suchetgarh, symbolising unity and national pride. The event showcased local cultural performances and featured a touching interaction with Army jawans, BSF jawans and affected families aimed at honouring the brave soldiers and showing solidarity with affected families. Speaking at the event, Qureshi expressed gratitude for the warm reception and conveyed her admiration for the unwavering spirit of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. She vowed to inspire more celebrities and artists to visit the Union Territory and experience its breathtaking beauty, vibrant culture and hospitality. Kurdistan's Al-Sulaymaniyah receives 50,000 tourists during Eid al-Fitr
Shafaq News/ Kurdistan Region's Al-Sulaymaniyah province welcomed 50,000 tourists during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, the Directorate of Tourism said on Thursday. The Directorate's Spokesperson Koran Qader told Shafaq News, "The majority of visitors came from other Iraqi provinces, followed by Iranian tourists entering through the Arbat border crossing and Al-Sulaymaniyah International Airport." Tour operators played a key role in facilitating travel, benefiting from the Region's mild climate and scenic landscapes, Qadir added. Tourist activity began on March 27, with data collection ongoing until April 5. The tourism directorate anticipates a further increase in visitor numbers during the official public holiday declared by the federal government. Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, is one of the most important religious celebrations in the Muslim world. Following a month of fasting, the holiday is traditionally observed with family gatherings, communal festivities, and increased travel, driving a surge in tourism across the country.

Surge in tourist arrivals to Al-Sulaymaniyah during Eid holiday
Shafaq News/ Tourist arrivals in Al-Sulaymaniyah have surged during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, with numbers expected to rise further in the coming days. According to the province's Directorate of Tourism, most visitors are entering through the Arbat and Tasiloja border crossings and Al-Sulaymaniyah International Airport. The majority are from other Iraqi provinces, followed by tourists from Iran. Tourist activity began on March 27, with data to be collected through April 5. The directorate expects numbers to grow further during the official public holiday announced by the federal government. The increase was especially noticeable on the third day of Eid in the Kurdistan Region, which coincided with the second day of the holiday in central and southern Iraq. Many families travel after spending the first day of Eid locally. Tour operators are facilitating access to the city, as approximately 70% of hotels operate at full capacity. However, the directorate reported no issues with accommodation or services. Tourism support teams have been deployed at key sites to assist visitors, while monitoring teams are overseeing the quality of service delivery. Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, is one of the most significant religious holidays in the Muslim calendar. Following a month of fasting, the holiday is celebrated with family visits, public gatherings, and increased travel, contributing to the rise in tourism activity acrossthecountry.
