Texas Longhorns win 4th Directors Cup in 5 years for top overall athletic department USA
Texas Longhorns win 4th Directors Cup in 5 years for top overall athletic department USA Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte turned the University of Texas athletic department into the envy of every school in the country. For the fourth time in five years, the Texas Longhorns athletic department has won the 2024-25 NACDA Learfield Directors' Cup for being the best athletic department in the nation. UT edged out USC and Stanford to claim the trophy. The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics awards the prize each season based on results from all of a school's sports teams, men's and women's. The final results came down to a race in the NCAA Track and Field Championships. UT clinched the Cup after the Texas A&M Aggies tied USC with a total score of 41 at the men's outdoor track and field championships Saturday night. Had the Trojans won, they would have had enough to pass Texas instead of barely finishing in second. Texas finishes with 1255.25 total points, USC ends up with 1253.75 and Stanford finishes with 1251. Texas won a national title in both Men's Swimming and Diving and Softball this season. Texas football finished third, as did women's basketball, rowing, women's swimming and diving and men's tennis. Since Del Conte took over the Longhorns athletic department in 2017, Texas has won 15 national titles. Now, with his fourth Directors' Cup, the Longhorns have arguably the best AD in all of college sports.

Making NCAA Tournament puts Texas athletics in elite company
Making NCAA Tournament puts Texas athletics in elite company The Texas Longhorns are in elite company. UT is one of only five teams that made the college football playoffs and the NCAA Tournament. Of course, it was a close call for the basketball team. Texas was one of the last teams into March Madness. The other four schools were Oregon, Georgia, Tennessee and Clemson. Even with the ups and downs of the basketball team this season, it is quite an accomplishment to make both postseason tournaments. It gets even more exclusive if you add in the women's NCAA Tournament. Only three teams made all three postseasons - Texas, Tennessee and Oregon. Volleyball is the women's main fall sport, like football is the main men's. Does it get more exclusive if you add in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament? No. The same three programs made all four - Texas, Tennessee and Oregon. Texas Longhorns athletics is always in contention for the Directors' Cup, an award given for the most success in collegiate athletics. The Longhorns lead the SEC in Directors' Cup standings and are strong in several spring sports including men's and women's golf, softball, baseball and men's and women's tennis.

Reports: Stanford AD Bernard Muir set to resign
February 25 - Following a 13-year run as Stanford's athletic director, Bernard Muir is prepared to resign, according to multiple media reports on Monday. The move comes in the midst of the school's first year as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference after the collapse of the Pac-12 Conference. During Muir's tenure, Stanford was an eight-time winner of the Directors' Cup, awarded to the school that has the best results across all sports teams. Cardinal programs won 30-plus NCAA titles with Muir as AD, including multiple national championships for the sailing, women's golf, men's gymnastics, women's volleyball, women's water polo, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, men's soccer, lightweight rowing and women's tennis programs, per the San Francisco Chronicle. However, the football team went 3-9 each of the past four seasons. Head coach Troy Taylor recently completed his second season on the job, and late last year, Stanford hired alumnus Andrew Luck to serve as the football program's general manager. The men's basketball team last qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2014, though the 2020 team was 20-12 and possibly tourney-bound before March Madness was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cardinal are currently 17-10 under new coach Kyle Smith, who entered after Muir fired Jerod Haase last March. The Stanford women's basketball team won the national title in 2021 and remained a powerhouse under coach Tara VanDerveer, the second-winningest basketball coach in NCAA history. She resigned after last season, and the Cardinals are 14-13 under new coach Kate Paye. Muir, 56, is likely to exit prior to the end of the school year, according to the Chronicle, and Stanford will likely appoint an interim AD while searching for a replacement. Muir served in the Notre Dame athletic department before becoming the AD at Georgetown (2005-09) and Delaware (2009-12) prior to getting the Stanford job in 2012.
