Disney launches major program with perks streaming fans will love
Gone are the days when people rented VHS tapes and inserted them into a VCR to watch a movie. Now, streaming service subscriptions are all one needs to watch any movie or show they please. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter Disney launched Disney+ in the U.S. in 2019, and since then, it has accumulated thousands of subscribers. Its quick success and fans' demand for the service later pushed it to expand to other countries, gradually increasing its awareness and gaining even more members. However, after multiple years of growth, Disney+ lost subscribers for the first time during its first-quarter earnings for fiscal 2025, reporting a 1% decline in total subscribers compared to the previous quarter. But things began to look up for Disney. Its streaming service's total subscriber count increased by 1% during the second quarter of fiscal 2025, outdoing its own expectations. This new perks program seeks to continue increasing the subscriber count for all Disney-owned streaming services. It also aims to build loyalty by keeping fans engaged and alert for new perks that will be released constantly, instead of giving them limited-time deals as the program did previously. Disney Cruise Line's bold expansion plans are sailing ahead with the launch of two new ships in late 2025 that will bring with them an array of new cruise experiences, venues, and menu items like only Disney can offer. The new Disney Destiny, set to sail Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale beginning in November, will immerse passengers in epic stories and experiences inspired by heroes and villains from across the Disney of those legendary stories is 'The Lion King,' which the cruise line will celebrate with a highly anticipated dinner show, Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King. Disney reveals first look at new £826million cruise ship - with brand new show and a water attraction
Disney has revealed the first details of its upcoming new $1.1 billion/£826 million cruise ship which will be themed around 'heroes and villains'. Named Disney Destiny, the ship will be the newest addition to Disney's fleet and fans can expect to see many of their favourite characters featured onboard. The ship, which is Disney's seventh, is set to launch in November 2025 and has capacity for 4,000 passengers. Its grand hall will be Marvel-themed and feature a statue of Black Panther hero King T'Challa. Minnie Mouse will stand on the ship's bow in a hero-like pose while there will be a Spider-Man sculpture on the stern. Entertainment will include Broadway-style stage shows with interactive performances. While classic Disney shows, such as Frozen, are likely to feature onboard, passengers will also be able to watch a new show, Disney Hercules. The exclusive new performance will tell the tale of Hercules' adventures with plenty of special effects. Disney says that the show will also feature a 'heartfelt ballad' that was 'originally penned for the movie' but 'left out of the final cut'. Holidaymakers will also be able to take part in activities themed around Disney's heroes and villains. Children can team up with Star Wars' Chewbacca to prep for a mission in a galaxy far, far away. And when it comes to dining, the most exciting new addition is a Lion-King themed restaurant set to be an immersive experience. Musicians and actors will tell the tale of Simba's rise from cub to king while diners tuck into themed culinary treats. Meanwhile, Edna A La Mode, an iconic character from The Incredibles films, will have her own sweet shop on the ship. Disney's AquaMouse water-coaster ride will also have a new storyline on Destiny, with Mickey and Minnie leading passengers on a trek to Villain Mountain's peak. And adults who want to get in touch with their 'villainous' side, can head to De Vil's Hollywood inspired piano lounge for a cocktail. Edna A La Mode, an iconic character from The Incredibles films, will have her own sweet shop on the ship Disney says: 'Indulge in trendy martinis, old-fashioned cocktails or high-end bubblies while swaying to the sultry tunes of a black-and-white spotted piano.' The ship's upper decks will have 10 pools and water play areas including the Toy Story-themed Splash Zone. Disney Destiny will set sail on its maiden voyage from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on November 20. The ship will offer four and five night cruises to the Bahamas and the Western Caribbean, including stops at Disney's private ports, Castaway Cay and Lighthouse Point.
