Independence Day: President Droupadi Murmu pays homage to bravehearts at National War memorial
New Delhi [India], August 15 (ANI): President Droupadi Murmu paid tributes to the bravehearts at Delhi's national war memorial on Independence Day, honouring those who made the supreme sacrifice in the armed conflicts of Independent India. The president was accompanied by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Anil Chauhan, Chief of Air Staff Amar Preet Singh, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, with all five of them marching to the memorial while being drenched in heavy rain. The wreath was also carried by two women Air Force officers. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth were also present at the memorial. Earlier on August 14, President Murmu approved 127 Gallantry awards and 40 Distinguished Service awards to the armed forces and central armed police forces personnel on the eve of the 79th Independence Day. 'These are: 04 Kirti Chakras; 15 Vir Chakras; 16 Shaurya Chakras; 02 Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry); 58 Sena Medals (Gallantry); 06 Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry); 26 Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry); 07 Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medals; 09 Uttam Yudh Seva Medals and 24 Yudh Seva Medals,' an official release said. 'The President has also approved 290 Mention-in-Despatches - 115 personnel of the Indian Army, 05 of the Indian Navy, 167 of the Indian Air Force and 03 of the Border Roads Development Board (BRDB),' it added. Meanwhile, Vir Chakra has been awarded to nine Indian Air Force officers for their brave contributions in the service of the nation during Operation Sindoor. The Vir Chakra has been awarded to nine Indian Air Force officers, including fighter pilots, who targeted terrorist groups' headquarters in Pakistan's Muridke and Bahawalpur and the neighbouring country's military assets. Group Captains (GP) Ranjeet Singh Sidhu, Manish Arora, Animesh Patni, Kunal Kalra, Wing commanders (WG CDR) Joy Chandra, Squadron Leaders (Sqn Ldr) Sarthak Kumar, Siddhant Singh, Rizwan Malik, Flight Lieutenant (FLT LT) Aarshveer Singh Thakur have been awarded Vir Chakra. The Indian Air Force has brought down at least six Pakistani aircraft in the action. Vir Chakra is a military bravery award presented to wartime heroes for their gallant actions on the battlefield. It is third in line after Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra. The national war memorial honours the soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the armed conflicts of Independent India, including in 1999 Kargil war, 1961 war in Goa, and multiple other operations like Operation Pawan, and Operation Rakshak. The monument, spread over 40 acres blends well with the aesthetics of the area, and was unveiled on February 25, 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. (ANI)

Nine IAF, four Army personnel get Vir Chakra for role in Operation Sindoor
NEW DELHI: In a rare instance of Gallantry Awards being conferred in peacetime, 15 Vir Chakras, war-time gallantry awards, were conferred by President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday on armed forces personnel for their roles in Operation Sindoor launched to avenge the killing of 26 civilians in Pahalgam. A total of 127 Gallantry Awards and 40 Distinguished Service awards were given to the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) personnel on the eve of 79th Independence Day. The list of personnel awarded for Operation Sindoor included 13 from the armed forces -- nine from the IAF and four from the Army –who were conferred the Vir Chakra, the third-highest wartime gallantry award. Two recipients were from the Ministry of Home Affairs: Sub Inspector Mohd Imteyaj and Constable Deepak Chingakham. There was also a rare list of the seven top-level armed forces officers awarded the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal for their role in Operation Sindoor. This award is given for exceptional operational planning, coordination and execution. President conferred 4 Kirti Chakras which are peacetime equivalents of the Mahavir Chakras of the war time. The other Gallantry Awards includes 15 Vir Chakras; 16 Shaurya Chakras; 2 Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry). When the award is conferred more than once it is termed as Bar to the award. The list also includes 58 Sena Medals (Gallantry), 6 Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry) and 26 Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry). The 40 Distinguished Service awards include 7 SarvottamYudh Seva Medals, 9 Uttam Yudh Seva Medals and 24 Yudh Seva Medals. The President has also approved 290 Mention-in-Despatches, including 115 personnel of the Army, 5 of the Navy, 167 of the Air Force and 3 of the Border Roads Development Board (BRDB). The President's awards also include three Tatrakshak Medals (TM), Indian Coast Guard personnel in recognition of their acts of conspicuous gallantry. Two more TMs were given for exceptional devotion to duty and meritorious service.

21 MP cops get police medals
Bhopal: Four MP police personnel were selected for the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 17 for the Police Medal for Meritorious Service. The announcement was made by the Union govt on the eve of Independence Day. The medals will be conferred on Aug 15. Those named for the distinguished service medal are ADG Yogesh Deshmukh, ADG Rakesh Gupta, constable Devendra Kumar Kaushal and head constable Walter Henry Ekka. The Meritorious Service Medal will be awarded to DCP Seema Alawa; DIGs Dharmendra Singh Bhadoria and Vijay Kumar Khatri; AIG Ashish Khare; ASPs Neeraj Pandey and Rupesh Kumar Dwivedi; SP Rajesh Sahay; DSPs Dinesh Kumar Singh, Virendra Singh and Alridge Vincent Singh; Inspectors Praveen Pawar, Kunjesh Srivastava, Manoj Kumar Dubey and Maneta Rai; ASIs Rajendra Kumar Dubey and Ashok Rao Sawant; and Head Constable Kalyan Singh. President approves Gallantry awards to 127 bravehearts
New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu approved 127 Gallantry awards and 40 Distinguished Service awards to the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel on the eve of Independence Day today. These include four Kirti Chakras, 15 Vir Chakras, 16 Shaurya Chakras; two Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry), 58 Sena Medals (Gallantry), six Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry), 26 Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry), seven Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medals; nine Uttam Yudh Seva Medals and 24 Yudh Seva Medals. The list includes the nine brave pilots of the Indian Air Force who had targeted the military bases of Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. The government has also honoured seven senior officers of the three services, including Air Force Director General Operations Air Marshal Awdhesh Bharti and Air Force Vice fleshtriya Ri RasChief Narmdeshwar Tiwari, with the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal. Moreover, the President also approved 290 Mention-in-Despatches. These include 115 personnel of the Indian Army, five of the Indian Navy, 167 of the Indian Air Force and three of the Border Roads Development Board (BRDB). Among those awarded with Vir Chakra include Col Koshank Lamba of 302 Medium Regiment; Lt Col Sushil Bisht, 1988 (Independent) Medium Battery; Group Captain Ranjeet Singh Sidhu, Flying (Pilot); Sub Inspector (GD) Mohd Imteyaj, MHA and CT/GD Deepak Chingakham, MHA. IPS officer BK Singh elevated to DG rank
1 2 Lucknow: Binod Kumar Singh, a 1994-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been promoted to the rank of director general. The promotion came after senior IPS officer Anand Swaroop was sent to the Centre on deputation. Singh, currently serving as additional director general (ADG), cyber crime , is known for reform-driven approach and operational acumen. Having an illustrious career spanning nearly three decades, he commanded some of UP's most communally sensitive, politically volatile, and crime-prone districts. He is credited with reforming the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), strengthening the state's cyber policing apparatus, and holding critical assignments at state, national, and federal levels. His career highlights include a tenure with the National Security Guard (NSG), where he contributed to operational preparedness and administration. Singh also led operations in Naxal-affected and dacoit-infested regions and managed security for high-profile events like Kumbh Mela.
