70,000,000-year-old dinosaur could unlock key cancer discoveries

Scientists believe they could develop new cancer treatments by studying the disease in the remains of prehistoric creatures. Researchers discovered structures similar to red blood cells in dinosaur fossils, which they believe could help better understand tumours and even give rise to new treatments. The ten-year study at Anglia Ruskin University was launched following the discovery of a fossil of a herbivorous Telmatosaurus transsylvanicus – known as a 'marsh lizard' – in Romania with a tumour in its jaw in 2016. Oncologist Professor Justin Stebbing led researchers in a project to see if any parallels could be drawn between the tumour and human cancers. Cancer specialist Dr Biancastella Cereser was part of the team of scientists that conducted a study into the unusual fossil. She told the Independent: 'We contacted the town in Romania, which was very excited to loan us the fossil.' The team then used a 'very, very, very fine drill' and a microscope to look inside the specimen, where they found structures resembling human red blood cells. The development has helped researchers understand 'the role of environment on cancer', Professor Stebbing said. He added that understanding the disease from a 'very ancient perspective' is another piece in the jigsaw. The project in some ways bears a similarity to that of the upcoming Jurassic World movie, which is due to be released in cinemas on July 2. The fourth film in the series follows a group of scientists trying to locate the remains of prehistoric species on an Atlantic island in a bid to create a life-saving drug for humans. More Trending However, after getting stranded on the island, the team discovers it is home to the results of failed dinosaur experiments which have been thriving for decades. They encounter some frightening mutations such as a Distortus Rex – a deformed, alien-like version of a T-Rex with six limbs. But while the claim that dinosaurs can be somewhat resurrected using DNA from their fossils is inaccurate, Professor Stebbing says the discovery of proteins in soft tissues means prehistoric remains could help with the development of better treatments in the future. Jurassic World Rebirth second trailer out, film to release on July 2

'Jurassic World Rebirth's' second trailer was unveiled on May 20. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, and is directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Kopp. The seventh instalment of 'Jurassic World' is set to be released on July 2 in this film, the trio is up for a face-off against monstrous creatures referred to as monoliths, who were left behind on an island where they were once experimented trailer highlights the peril of attempting to outwit dinosaurs, as a scientist is shown getting killed right at the beginning. It then introduces the island where 'the worst of the worst' dinosaurs were abandoned. Set five years after the events of 'Jurassic World Dominion', the film unfolds in a world that has largely proven inhospitable to dinosaurs. Scarlett Johansson stars as Zora Bennett, a highly skilled covert operations expert tasked with leading an elite team on a top-secret mission to retrieve genetic material. Mahershala Ali plays Duncan Kincaid, a member of her team, while Jonathan Bailey takes on the role of Dr. Henry Loomis, a palaeontologist. The team also includes a pharmaceutical representative played by Martin Krebs, with supporting roles by Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein. The trailer also introduces a range of mutant team ventures deep into the tropical jungles, determined to complete their mission while ensuring the safety of the civilians they have vowed to rescue. Emerging through the red mist is the franchise's most terrifying and powerful creature yet, 'Distortus Rex', likely the result of a failed experiment on a T-Rex. With six limbs, jagged rows of teeth, and a distorted, almost tormented appearance, the D-Rex stands out as one of the most grotesque creatures in the franchise.'It's like if a T-Rex were imagined by H.R. Giger and then merged with a Rancor,' director Gareth Edwards told Empire. Chaos erupts as the team battles their way through a host of deadly predators who have ruled the island for years and don't like trailer visually suggests a step-up in the franchise's action sequences, featuring not just land predators but also new airborne and underwater threats, including avian dinosaurs and aquatic monsters. advertisement

Jurassic World Rebirth Trailer: Scarlett Johansson's Team Faces The ‘Worst Ones'

The events of Jurassic World Rebirth unfold five years after Jurassic World: Dominion, with new characters taking charge. The 'worst of the worst" is yet to come! The much-awaited seventh installment in the beloved prehistoric franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth, is set to roar into theatres this July. With around a month left before the film's release, makers have dropped a fresh trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth. It promises a lot of dino action directly from the brain of David Koepp, the one who penned the screenplay for Spielberg's 1993 Jurassic Park. The narrative picks up five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion, with the planet's ecology now becoming largely inhospitable for the dinosaurs. The trailer shows a new team, led by Scarlett Johansson's covert operations expert Zora Bennett, moving to complete a top-secret mission to the 'most dangerous place on Earth"—the island research facility of the original Jurassic Park, which now houses the deadliest animals. 'Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea, and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind," the film's synopsis reads. Joining Johansson on the mission are Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid, Zora's most trusted team member, and Jonathan Bailey as palaeontologist Dr. Henry Loomis. Among others are Emmy nominee Rupert Friend as Big Pharma representative Martin Krebs and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. The trailer opens at a research facility, where a team member is attacked by a mysteriously dangerous dinosaur. The scene cuts to the Zora's team heading toward the island, where they state that two dozen dinosaurs have been surviving alone. As Zora notes how the facility carried out experimental work on the animals, leaving only the 'worst ones," her team ends up crossing paths with a civilian family who are stranded on the island. The groups join forces, only to uncover a long-buried secret and encounter their worst nightmare—the Distortus Rex, or D-Rex. Believed to have six limbs, jagged teeth, and a twisted form, the dinosaur is one of the most grotesque designs by the franchise, director Gareth Edwards revealed to Empire. All through this, the team struggles to extract DNA from the three most colossal creatures across land, sea, and air within that tropical biosphere, which they believe holds the key to a drug for bringing miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind. Fans will have to wait to find answers to all the questions. Jurassic World Rebirth will release on July 2, 2025. First Published:

Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali take on the ‘worst' dinosaurs ever in Jurassic World Rebirth. Watch trailer

The Jurassic Park franchise introduced audience to a beautiful, incredible and dangerous reality when the first movie hit theatres in 1993. Now Universal Pictures is back with Jurassic World Rebirth, where the characters will face off against their biggest threat yet. The trailer of the Gareth Edwards directoral shows a group of explorers travelling to an island which houses an abandoned theme park that experimented with one of nature's deadliest creations, dinosaurs. The trailer opens with a scene inside of a research facility where something has gone terribly wrong, with scientists running to safety behind a door, but one of them fails to make it and pleads with the person on the other side to 'please open the door,' as a giant claw grabs him from behind. We are then introduced to the team of explorers that have set out on a journey to obtain DNA of three dinosaur species, one each from land, air and sea, in order to develop a revolutionary drug for human use. Zora Bennett, played by Scarlett Johansson, talks about the island, which was the original location for the Jurassic Park experiments, and says, 'The theme park owners did experimental work, leaving only the worst ones here.' The team then meets a civilian family, the Delgados, stuck on the island, battling for their survival, and decides to help them get out alive. They seem to have it under control as they start obtaining the required DNA while fighting against smaller dinosaurs, but things start going south as they quickly discover the fallout of the experiments that were conducted on the island. Henry Loomis, who is a palaeontologist, states that 'We have put ourselves in a place where we don't belong; survival is a long shot.' The team proceeds to wade through the tropical jungles as they try to complete their mission, while protecting the civilians they have sworn to get out of there. It is at this point we see the extent of the experiments, as a baby dinosaur is seen groaning for help because she is afraid. Then through the red mist appears the franchise's most formidable and dangerous dinosaur, the Distortus Rex, which possibly came to be due to a botched experiment on T-Rex. Chaos ensues as the team fights their way through against dangerous predators, who have been occupying the island for years and don't take kindly to this intrusion. Thriller TV Spot For JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH Features Cool New Dinosaur Attack Footage — GeekTyrant

Universal Pictures has released a new TV Spot for producer Steven Spielberg's Jurassic World Rebirth , and it features a lot of new footage, some of which includes the T-Rex river raft chase scene and we also get to see the Distortus Rex in brutal atack mode. It was also revealed that we are going to be getting another full trailer on Tuesday, so stay tuned for that awesomeness! I imagine it will show off even more new dino carnage. In the film, 'The planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. 'The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.' The movie stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis, and Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid. This movie is directed by Gareth Edwards ( Godzilla, The Creator ), from a script written by Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp. This is just the beginning of a brand-new story that they hope to tell over the course of multiple films. The director previously said that the movie is 'a giant love letter to Steven Spielberg and his earlier films. There are moments in this movie that remind me very much of Jaws. 'It's like little greatest hits of all those aspects of his films that I loved growing up as a child. It's essentially a little adventure odyssey across this island, a survival story, really.' The film is set five years after the events of Dominion , 'in which dinosaurs mingled with humans all over the globe, these creatures are now dying out. 'The present-day planet proved to be inhospitable to the prehistoric ilk, except for a small region in the tropics around the equator, where many of them now congregate. 'The three most colossal dinosaurs of land, sea, and air within this biosphere hold genetic material precious to a pharmaceutical company that hopes to use the dino DNA to create a life-saving drug for humanity.' Johansson plays Zora Bennett, 'a special-ops, ex-CIA type,' who is contracted by said company to infiltrate the region and extract the DNA from these monoliths. 'She has a sibling-like bond with Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala), her most trusted ally who captains their team's ship — 'He's kind of like the Ahab of our movie.'' Bailey is the paleontologist, Dr. Henry Loomis. 'He's out of his depth in terms of the military element of the mission. He's very comfortable on digs and expeditions but not the life-and-death risks that Kincaid and Zora are getting into.' Original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp wrote the script for the film, and Universal Pictures will release the film in theaters on July 2, 2025.
