Instacart names chief business officer as next CEO
Dive Brief: Instacart announced Wednesday that Chief Business Officer Chris Rogers will become CEO, effective Aug. 15. He will replace Fidji Simo, who is stepping down from the top position to become CEO of OpenAI Applications but will remain chair of Instacart's will step into the top role after nearly six years with the grocery technology company, including around three years in his current role. Instacart positioned Rogers as a leader with decades of experience spanning consumer goods, technology, retail and media, noting that he has focused on "driving growth at the intersection of brands, retailers, and technology" in his current role. Dive Insight: In announcing Simo's upcoming departure from the CEO position, Instacart had said it would choose an existing member of the company's management team. Instacart's choice of Rogers as its next leader signals the company is continuing its strategy of bridging retailers, consumers and advertisers with technology-driven solutions. Rogers has seen Instacart's evolution both before and after Simo's arrival in 2021. He joined Instacart as vice president of global retail in 2019 after 11 years at Apple, where he served in a variety of roles, including head of consumer retail, head of carrier channel and managing director of Apple Canada. Prior to Apple, Rogers worked at Procter & Gamble as an account executive for several clients such as Loblaws, Sobeys and A&P, according to his LinkedIn profile. As chief business officer, Rogers has overseen the company's commercial operations, including retailer relationships and expansions, ad sales, mergers and acquisitions, Instacart Business and Instacart Health. Rogers currently sits on the board of data and analytics firm Spins and is a board member of the Ad Council, a nonprofit that helps launch public service campaigns addressing social issues. Rogers's ascension to the top role follows Instacart's work to establish itself as a leader in grocery technology and e-commerce "Over the last four years, we've transformed Instacart into a growing, profitable, leading technology platform that's helping reshape the grocery industry," Simo said in the announcement. "We're building a generational company at the intersection of technology and food, and Chris is the right leader for our next chapter." Simo "really set up a foundation" for the company to continue achieving double-digit growth and building its e-grocery market leadership, CFO Emily Reuter said during the J.P. Morgan Global Technology, Media and Communications Conference earlier this month. "The priorities remain the same, which is that we continue to be incredibly excited about the overall market opportunity, and really, our goal as the category leader … is to continue to drive online penetration," she said at the conference. GitHub adds agentic capabilities to Copilot in latest automation push
This story was originally published on CIO Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily CIO Dive newsletter. Microsoft is adding autonomous and semi-autonomous AI agents to GitHub Copilot, letting developers automate more aspects of software development, the company said Monday during its annual Build conference. Developers will be able to task agents with refactoring code, improving test coverage, fixing defects, implementing new features and modernizing apps, among other duties, as part of the GitHub Copilot coding agent, according to Microsoft. A site reliability engineering agent will also help cloud developers reduce operational costs and improve app uptime by automatically responding to production alerts, autonomously mitigating issues and determining root cause analysis. The capabilities 'go far beyond autocomplete,' marking a new era of the tool, the company said. Most of the agentic capabilities are currently in preview or will be in the coming weeks. Microsoft, like most major technology providers, is doubling down on agentic AI. The industry's latest buzzword comes at a time when businesses are prioritizing cost savings and productivity boosts amid economic uncertainty. Businesses jumped headfirst into generative AI experimentation, though most have been unable to move projects further due to half-baked adoption strategies and a battery of technical gaps and organizational concerns. Analysts have warned CIOs against pushing implementation forward without the right foundation, especially as enterprises eye agentic services and tools. Despite the hurdles, businesses remain bullish on AI and are willing to shake up their status quo to turn ambitions into reality. Nearly half of enterprise technology buyers have switched software providers lured by better AI features, according to a G2 survey published last week. Microsoft's latest round of updates and new features target key enterprise adoption challenges and build on previous announcements. Earlier this month, Microsoft committed to Google's interoperability protocol for AI agents, joining more than 50 other tech companies in supporting the standard. The tech giant this week unveiled more ways for enterprises to develop, secure and enhance agents and Copilot, such as expanding its low-code capabilities to support multiagent systems. In its Q3 2025 earnings report, Microsoft executives said more than 10,000 organizations have already used its agent services, just four months into the new focus area. Microsoft-owned GitHub has also benefited from the recent waves of AI enthusiasm, with more than 15 million GitHub Copilot users, up fourfold year over year.

'Dive' Olivia Dean new music Advertisement Although she's released a number of singles — including 'It Isn't Perfect But Might Be' from the new 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy' film — Dean's most notable output is her aforementioned 2023 album 'Messy.' Spaced-out, soulful, achingly honest, there aren't enough adjectives to describe the impressive 12-track record. Just a few of our favorites here include the bouncy bop 'Ladies Room,' smoky, searching 'No Man,' blissed-out, funky 'Dangerously Easy,' rhythmic, reggae-esque 'Danger' and synthy-y yet twinkly title track 'Messy.' Yet, the obvious standout here is the posh, cinematic 'Dive,' which just might be the perfect rom-com montage song. The stripped-down interlude midway through the song will give you goosebumps. At the very least, it did for us. Want to give the record a spin? You can find 'Messy' here. Huge stars on tour in 2025 Advertisement Quite a few up-and-coming icons that share some songwriting DNA with Dean will be out and about these next few months. Lennar CTO Scott Spradley to retire from C-suite
This story was originally published on CIO Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily CIO Dive newsletter. Lennar Corporation CTO Scott Spradley will retire from the role effective May 30, he said in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday. The 35-year technology veteran, who has been at Lennar for just over two years, previously led digital transformation efforts at Tyson Foods and the company formerly known as Hewlett-Packard. 'I've been fortunate to work with extraordinary teams on some of the most ambitious transformation efforts in modern enterprise history — from separating HP into two Fortune 50 companies to leading AI, transforming companies through digital transformation, cybersecurity, cloud and automation initiatives across diverse industries,' Spradley said in the post. Lennar has pursued strategic technology investments with a focus on customer experience and efficiency, according to recent financial filings. The homebuilder and real estate company did not provide information on who would succeed Spradley. Strong technology leadership can make or break a company, especially as enterprise success becomes more intertwined with digital transformation projects and AI initiatives. Before Lennar, Spradley shepherded Tyson from a data center-based organization to a multicloud environment. In his executive bio, Lennar highlighted Spradley's acceleration of the chicken company's AI and ML use. The real estate industry, in particular, has doubled down on technology in the past few years, in its effort to move from laggards to innovators. Some of generative AI's earliest enterprise adopters were part of the industry. JLL rolled out a proprietary generative AI tool to its 100,000-plus workforce in 2023. CBRE Group created a self-service AI platform for its employees the same year. Cushman & Wakefield was also quick to shift priorities in 2023 to begin charting an AI roadmap. Zillow expanded its AI use as well, giving developers code generation tools and implementing a generative AI chatbot. The industry is broadening use cases as implementation rolls on. Zillow highlighted its work to integrate AI for staging in a May earnings call, for example. Microsoft also detailed potential use cases for real estate agents in a January blog post, such as lead generation, real estate descriptions and calculating closing costs.
