Patrice Motsepe would shout at Mamelodi Sundowns players for driving cheap cars

Former Sundowns boss Mamelodi Sundowns owner and former chairman Patrice Motsepe wanted his players to show they were well paid. Photo: Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix Josta Dladla has opened up about how Patrice Motsepe wanted to turn Mamelodi Sundowns into the biggest club in Africa after purchasing it from the Tsichlas family back in 2004. Dladla, who spent five years with the Brazilians, also spoke about how Motsepe changed the way South African footballers were being paid. '… When he took over, South African players were still being paid small salaries. He came and took it to another level, and the people who have been running the game called him out and were like, 'What are you doing? Why are you paying these players so much?' He didn't care,' Dladla said on the George Mokoena Podcast on YouTube. 'He understood that the money that we are going to make in a 10-year career has to last you for the next 70 years,' said Dladla, who also spent six years in the colours of Kaizer Chiefs.

Club legend: ‘ I stayed because I loved Kaizer Chiefs'

Former Kaizer Chiefs ball wizard has revealed he once chose Amakhosi over a move to Portugal. Most veteran football fans in Mzansi count Dladla among the top five greatest players in history. Speaking to the media in the past week, the former Kaizer Chiefs winger turned down a move to Portugal as a gesture of dedication to Amakhosi. 'Yes, I did get offers,' Dladla said via iDiski Times. 'Once, Mr Motaung came to me and said, 'There's a chance for you to go abroad to play with Malombo [Lichaba] in Portugal'. But I said to him, 'Bra K, if I go, who will be left?' Ace [Ntsoelengoe] was also gone. I stayed because I loved Chiefs. 'I did not want to leave. How could I when someone lost his life for me to be at this club? I stayed because I wanted to honour Ewert. That's why I will always be a Khosi,' the Amakhosi icon concluded.
