Iconic sweets return to UK shops 27 years after being axed
The popular sweets, which are available in Tesco, Morrisons and more, were first sold in 1959, before becoming a staple of the 1980s and 1990s. In 1998, Opal Fruits were axed and rebranded as Starburst, with the original confectionery only making a limited return twice. The relaunch of the individually wrapped chewy sweets has prompted much excitement from fans after manufacturer Mars Wrigley told shoppers that the previous return would be the "final time". "The nostalgia trend continues to resonate strongly with consumers, and we are giving them the chance to reconnect with memories from that time." She added: "This limited edition follows successful runs in 2021 and 2024, and we are especially excited about this release as we continue to celebrate the rich heritage of an iconic brand."
