Gehlot credits Dotasra's rise in Congress to Pilot's revolt in '20
1 2 Jaipur: Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot made revealing statements about Congress politics in Rajasthan during an event commemorating former prime pinister Rajiv Gandhi's death anniversary at the PCC headquarters Wednesday. In candid remarks, Gehlot suggested that current Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra 's position was a direct result of the political crisis triggered by Sachin Pilot 's rebellion in July 2020. During that turbulent period, Pilot was stripped of his roles as deputy CM and Congress state president, with Dotasra stepping into the latter position. "It is nothing short of a miracle that our govt survived," Gehlot remarked, attributing his previous govt's stability to the Congress high command's support and public goodwill. "When the top two in the country decide to topple a govt… you can understand who the top two are... When they decided, state govts in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra fell," he added. Even as he highlighted his achievement of completing three terms as CM and acknowledged the exceptional support he received within the party, Gehlot hinted at the probable generational change in the Congress state leadership, saying, "We have our limits, a new generation should come and there should be a change. We are doing what is possible." Notably, Dotasra's continued tenure as Congress state president for five years appears to contradict the party's Udaipur Nav Sankalp declaration, which limits individual party posts to three years. Drawing historical parallels, Gehlot referenced how leaders loyal to party high command maintained their positions for four decades, while expressing support for leadership renewal in the present context. "Leaders who supported Indira Gandhi were given responsibilities at that time. Those same people held positions for 40 years," Gehlot said. The former CM's statements have reignited discussions about the internal dynamics of Congress in Rajasthan and its future leadership.

PCC chief accuses law min of ‘conspiring' to shield BJP MLA
1 2 Jaipur: In a significant political showdown, Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra Monday levelled serious allegations against Union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and Rajasthan Assembly speaker Vasudev Devnani, accusing them of succumbing to pressure from BJP and RSS in shielding convicted BJP MLA Kanwarlal Meena from disqualification, despite court orders mandating his surrender. In the evening, a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) delegation met Governor Haribhau Bagde and submitted a memorandum against pardoning Meena under Article 161 of the Constitution. Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully warned that showing leniency to a "criminal" would set a dangerous precedent. The case dates back to 2005 when Meena allegedly threatened then-sub-divisional officer Ramniwas Mehta at gunpoint in Aklera, Jhalawar. The Rajasthan High Court upheld his conviction on May 1 and the Supreme Court subsequently dismissed his appeal on May 7. The Congress has drawn parallels with Rahul Gandhi's case, where his Lok Sabha membership was revoked within 24 hours of his conviction in a defamation case in 2023. In contrast, Meena continues to retain his assembly membership and security detail, despite higher court orders. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot added another dimension to the controversy, suggesting that the entire state govt was operating under external pressure, with key decisions being directed from BJP central leadership in Delhi or RSS offices. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ingin Tahu Tentang Diagnosis Limfoma? Addressing the media after meeting the governor, Dotasra termed the Speaker's inaction as 'unconstitutional' and a 'violation of court orders,' while alleging that efforts to secure a pardon for Meena were orchestrated at the Union Law Minister's residence. Meghwal could not be contacted despite repeated calls. Dotasra accused the BJP's "double-engine govt" of undermining the Constitution and disregarding court orders, saying, "This is why Meena still has a PSO and orders from the High Court to the Supreme Court are not being followed." Jully said, "In the interest of justice, Governor's intervention is needed to halt the BJP govt's attempts to misuse legal provisions and reject the efforts to pardon Meena."

Dotasra resigns from Assembly committee, alleges Speaker's bias
1 2 Jaipur: In a significant political development on Monday, Congress state president and MLA Govind Singh Dotasra resigned from his position on the assembly's Estimates Committee 'B', citing concerns over alleged partisan decisions by Rajasthan Speaker Vasudev Devnani. The resignation comes in protest of two controversial decisions: the sudden removal of Congress MLA Narendra Budania from his position as chairman of the assembly's Privileges and Subordinate Legislation Committee within just 15 days of appointment and the continuing delay in disqualifying BJP MLA Kanwarlal Meena from assembly membership despite his three-year jail sentence awarded by a court and the Supreme Court refusing to grant him any relief. Announcing his resignation on social media platform 'X', Dotasra emphasised the importance of impartiality in constitutional positions, stating that recent decisions by Speaker Devnani "reveal tendencies that are against the core spirit of the Constitution and are completely biased. " The Congress state president particularly highlighted the case of BJP MLA Meena, who received a three-year sentence from a trial court that was upheld by the Rajasthan High Court on May 1. According to law, representatives sentenced to more than two years in prison face automatic disqualification, said Dotasra. "However, despite opposition memorandums to the Speaker, Meena's membership remains intact till date," the opposition party president. "Assembly committees are not merely a rubber stamp for the ruling party," Dotasra asserted, emphasising their crucial role in maintaining balanced dialogue and oversight.

As tensions ease, Rajasthan Congress's discordant note: ‘Officials who support Cong posted at border'
The Congress in Rajasthan has accused the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led BJP government of 'bias' in postings in districts along the International Border (IB) during the recent escalation in tensions with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Speaking with journalists, state Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra said, 'Rajasthan mein aise listein chaant chaant ke, ye Congressi prashtbhumi ka vyakti hai; ye BJP ke MLA ne kaha hai, isko lagao, isko mat lagao, uss tarah se wahan par duty lagai gayi hai (They have sifted through the lists, and with instructions from BJP MLAs, posted people who are associated with the Congress on the border).' Claiming that officials 'out of favour with the ruling party', or 'Congress-leaning' were sent to border districts, Dotasra said: 'Why were Health Department doctors sitting with APO (Awaiting Posting Order) for six months? It is good to post people from every department at the border, and our people are ready to go to the border and also enroll in the Army. But there has been politics in this too,' he said. Over the past few days, while the state was witnessing a flare up on the IB, the Rajasthan government moved quickly to fill vacant posts in border districts to deal with any eventuality. This included appointment of Sub-Divisional Officers, Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, and officials in electricity, Water, health, medical departments, etc. Other additional resources, such as fire brigades, ambulances, and extra personnel from the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Border Home Guard, were also mobilised to border districts like Barmer, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, and Sri Ganganagar, among others. Dotasra gave the example of a woman veterinarian doctor who, according to him, 'was posted away from her kids, simply because she has a Congress background and not the BJP'. Urging the BJP government, 'which is talking about fighting and winning wars,' to 'fix its mindset first', Dotasra said: 'The Congress has no objection to appointing anyone anywhere, but the motive behind it should be good.' According to Section 7 of the Rajasthan Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1971, government employees are prohibited from taking part in politics, being a member of a political party, or getting involved in any political activity, etc. In 1972, the Rajasthan government clarified that the RSS and Jamaat-e-Islami too fall under this bracket, and in 1981, added another 17 organisations to the list. Last year, following in the footsteps of several other states, the Rajasthan government lifted its ban on government employees taking part in activities of the RSS. Countering the Congress's allegations, state BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bhardwaj said a government employee 'is not a Congress or BJP person'. 'If Dotasra is saying so, it proves that they have politicised government employees and bureaucrats. Secondly, in the BJP government, no government employee or bureaucrat is transferred on the basis of ideology. Dotasra wants to stay in the headlines, hence he keeps making such false statements,' Bhardwaj said.

Shortage of teachers hits edu in schools: Raj Cong chief
Jaipur: Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra said govt schools are witnessing declining enrolments due to insufficient teaching staff. He highlighted that the education department currently has 1.25 lakh unfilled teaching positions, and shortage affects both Hindi and English medium schools across the state. "The education department of Rajasthan is running in a completely passive mode. Due to the failures of the department, the education system of the state is going downhill. The entire academic session passed, but schools did not get teachers. Due to the shortage of teachers, enrolment is decreasing across the state," said Dotasra in a post on social media platform X. He added that 32,139 posts of senior teachers are vacant in the state, along with 8,174 posts of principal, 5,867 posts of vice-principal, 20,431 posts of lecturers are vacant, and about 17,500 posts of Mahatma Gandhi English Medium Schools are also vacant. "The achievements of the department's minister have been only baseless statements, insulting teachers, blaming the previous govt, sports kit scam, closing schools, depriving the poor of English education, reducing enrolment, taking U-turns on decisions, not providing uniforms to children, and ruining the education system of Rajasthan," added the state Congress president. Reacting to the statements, the education minister Madan Dilawar, while speaking to TOI, said that teachers were recruited for 30,000 posts and work is underway to fill posts of 50,000-60,000 more teachers this year. "The Congress president is right in saying that 1.25 lakh posts are vacant in the education department, and we are working to rectify the mistakes made by the previous govt. The posts are vacant due to the decisions taken by the previous Congress govt, and recruitments are being done regularly to fill all the posts," said Dilawar.
