Fundraiser launched to repatriate remains of man killed in e-scooter crash

A man killed in a horror road collision involving a car and an e-scooter has been named locally as pals organise a fundraiser to repatriate his remains back to his home in Romania. Named locally as Dragusin Vasilica, 31, who is originally from Ialomița, was on the e-scooter when the fatal collision happened on the Old Navan Road in Blanchardstown, Dublin on Sunday, August 3. No other injuries were reported. Mr Vasilica was taken to Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown but was later pronounced dead. Heartbroken pals of Mr Dragusin have now launched a fundraiser on GoFundMe to help raise funds to repatriate his remains back to his grieving family in Romania. Mr Dragusin had been living in Ireland for around four years where he worked as a plumber. In the post on the GoFundMe titled: 'Ajutor pentru repatrierea lui Dragusin Vasilica' a pal wrote that Dragusin had hoped for a better future here in Ireland. 'Friends and family describe him as a quiet and hardworking man, with a big heart and simple dreams,' organiser of the fundraiser Ilie Bitoleanu wrote. Any amount, no matter how small, can make a huge difference for the family. Let's stand with the Dragusin family in this painful burden. May God rest his soul in peace.' But when he returns from his knee injury, the hulking centre-back will wear No3. Speaking to Tottenham's media team, Dragusin said: "I feel like this number represents me. "I have been wearing it in the national team since three years ago and I just feel it really represents who I am – someone who is always ready to give everything for the team. "Now, I'm really proud to wear it in north London." With No3 traditionally a left-back's number, some Spurs fans have been left disappointed by the change - particularly as it hints that Thomas Frank's side will not recruit anyone in that position ahead of the transfer deadline. One called the change: "Utter woke nonsense." While a second huffed: "The game's gone." BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK A third whined: "A CB with the 3 shirt? I hate it." And another added: "Weird way to announce we're not buying cover for Udogie again." Djed Spence deputised superbly in Tottenham's 1-0 win over Arsenal last Thursday, while Ben Davies featured at left-back as Spurs drew 1-1 with Newcastle on Sunday. Micky van de Ven has also featured at left-back on occasion for the Lilywhites - including against Manchester City last term. With Dragusin having vacated his number, new signing Joao Palhinha will wear Tottenham's No6 shirt next season. "I can remember my first goal... everything that has been important in my career – not just the career, but in other things as well – most of the days have the number six. "I'm a bit superstitious and I believe always that this number has an important meaning for me and my family and this is why I want to keep, if possible, the number with me on the shirt." Palhinha could feature for the first time in his new No6 shirt as Tottenham take on his parent club Bayern in a Munich friendly on Thursday. The 30-year-old may then be in line for his competitive Spurs debut next Wednesday as Frank's men take on Paris Saint-Germain in the European Super Cup. 4 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW

Radu Dragusin will do everything he can for ‘smooth recovery' after knee surgery

Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin is determined to come back stronger following surgery to repair anterior cruciate ligament damage. The Romanian sustained a serious knee injury during the Europa League win against Elfsborg on January 30, and is set for a lengthy spell of rehabilitation. After having an operation on Tuesday morning, the 23-year-old posted a picture of himself on social media from his hospital bed at the start of a long road back to fitness. 'This morning, I successfully got through the surgery, which went perfectly. I am grateful to the entire medical team for their care and professionalism,' Dragusin wrote on Instagram. 'At the same time, I am thankful for all the messages of encouragement and your continuous support. It's wonderful to feel this kind of support. 'I will do everything I can to ensure a smooth recovery and come back stronger as soon as possible.' Dragusin, signed from Genoa for £25million in January last year, has made a total of 28 appearances for Ange Postecoglou's side this season, including 14 Premier League starts. The loss of Dragusin was the latest in a long injury list for the under-pressure Spurs boss, who has seen his side now exit the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in the space of 72 hours. Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League ahead of their next game at home to Manchester United on Sunday, with Europe now the sole focus for Postecoglou to deliver a trophy in his second season.

Injury-hit Spurs without Dragusin for Brentford clash, Postecoglou confirms

Jan 31 (Reuters) - Radu Dragusin became the latest addition to Tottenham Hotspur's already lengthy injury list after manager Ange Postecoglou said on Friday the defender would miss Sunday's Premier League game at Brentford due to a knee problem. Dragusin, 22, was forced off in the second half of Spurs' 3-0 win over Swedish side Elfsborg in the Europa League on Thursday. "Still not sure, we'll let it settle down and get more information over the weekend. He's obviously not available for this weekend," Postecoglou told reporters. The 59-year-old added that there were no further fitness concerns after the win over Elfsborg and defender Djed Spence, who did not feature on Thursday, would be available on Sunday. "Certainly the guys who were involved last night in terms of team news the only one who becomes available from last night is Djed -- he should be okay. Serg (Sergio Reguilon) has a chance as well," Postecoglou said. Spurs' ongoing injury crisis has left Postecoglou in despair with key players unlikely to return for another week or two. Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner and Dominic Solanke are all sidelined with injuries. "They are all kind of (going to return) around the same time, around 10 days. We are talking about Vicario, Johnson, Destiny, Wilson, Timo," Postecoglou said. "Romero is a bit of a tricky one. We are not really sure yet. There is still some work he needs to do. "Certainly all those guys, I think of the long-term ones apart from Dom (Solanke) who is probably a week behind them, the rest of them are slated to be back in the next week to 10 days to be available." Spurs have won once in their last 11 matches and are languishing in 15th place in the Premier League with 24 points. Amidst a form crisis and mounting injuries, Postecoglou highlighted the need to bolster the squad in the January transfer window, particularly given Dragusin's injury. "I think depending on the extent of Radu's (injury), it might be an area we need to look at and certainly this weekend (we are) exploring some options," he added.

Ange Postecoglou confirms latest Tottenham injury blow ahead of Brentford trip

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Radu Dragusin will miss Tottenham's Premier League trip to Brentford on Sunday. The defender was brought on for the returning Micky van de Ven in a pre-planned substitution on Thursday night as Spurs beat Elfsborg 3-0 to seal a top eight spot in the Europa League. Still, such is the extent of the injury crisis at the club this season, Dragusin came off for Spurs not long after having made his introduction after appearing to jar his knee. While Postecoglou is still unsure about the severity of Dragusin's injury, the Romania international will not be involved on Sunday. 'We let it settle down, obviously get some more information over the weekend,' he said. 'Obviously not available for this weekend at the moment, so we'll just have to see the extent of it. Hard to tell, it's a knee, there's always a concern for a knee injury, so we just don't know the extent of it.' Djed Spence should return, however, while Sergio Reguilon has a chance to make the squad. Van de Ven is fit again and Postecoglou could soon welcome other key players back into his team. The Spurs boss confirmed all of Guglielmo Vicario, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert could return within ten days, with Dominic Solanke and James Maddison slightly further behind. Cristian Romero is back in Tottenham training but is not expected be rushed back into action. 'Vicario, Johnson, Destiny, Wilson are all slated in a week to ten days,' he added. 'Dom maybe another week behind. Madders is probably around the same time. Romero just a slower healer with him. It's one we're looking at on a week to week basis. We're just taking our time.'
