Dubai Court orders hospital equipment auction to settle Dh3.07 million in unpaid wages
The Dubai Court of First Instance has ordered the auction of medical equipment from a private hospital located in City Walk to recover unpaid dues owed to doctors, nurses, and other staff. The auction, scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, will be conducted by Emirates Auction at its Ras Al Khor premises at 5pm, according to a public notice published in a local newspaper on Tuesday. Buyers can also bid online through the auction company's website. The case was filed by several hospital staff, with the court awarding approximately Dh3.07 million in unpaid salaries. To recover the amount, the court ordered the seizure and sale of hospital assets. The move follows an earlier seizure order issued after the hospital failed to settle long-pending dues. A site inspection by a court-appointed executor in March 2024 catalogued all medical equipment and furniture now slated for sale. The full inventory—including X-ray machines, automated analysers, bronchoscopy tools, patient beds, infusion pumps, and blood pressure monitors—has been officially valued at Dh16.65 million, according to the court notice. Khaleej Times had reported in November that the court had ordered the seizure of hospital assets following months of unpaid salaries. According to Dubai Courts, anyone wishing to object to the auction must submit supporting documents at least three days before the scheduled date.

Dubai convicts 21 in $6.9m phantom visa fraud case
The Dubai Citizenship and Residency Court has issued a landmark conviction against 21 individuals of various nationalities, sentencing them in one of the emirate's largest visa fraud cases. The defendants were fined a combined total of AED25.21m ($6.86m) for orchestrating a wide-ranging scheme that involved issuing hundreds of fraudulent residency visas through non-existent companies. The case was prosecuted by the Dubai Citizenship and Residency Prosecution following an investigation prompted by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai. Dubai visa arrests Authorities uncovered a network of phantom companies set up solely to obtain residence visas under false pretences. These companies were later shut down without legalising the employment status of recruited workers, leaving many vulnerable to exploitation. According to Dr. Ali Humaid bin Khatem, Senior Advocate General and Head of the Citizenship and Residency Prosecution, the investigation uncovered 33 shell entities operating with forged business licences and fictitious addresses. These entities were found to have been used to illegally secure and misuse a total of 385 residency visas. Dr. Bin Khatem said: 'The Public Prosecution will continue to work closely with its partners to address any violations of laws governing the entry and residence of foreigners as well as labour regulations in order to preserve the stability of society and the integrity of the labour market'.

Dubai: Woman fined over Dh2 million for stealing from investor
An Asian woman was sentenced by a Dubai misdemeanours court to two years in jail plus a fine of Dh 2.85 million for stealing a large sum of money from an investor. She will also be deported after serving her sentence. Two other defendants of the same nationality were acquitted of involvement. According to court records, the case dates back to January this year, when an investor reported a theft from his apartment in Deira. The man said he hosted the woman at his home. He told police that the woman had previously worked for one of his companies before leaving the country. On the day of the crime, the investor accompanied the accused to a money exchange office in Dubai to collect Dh2 million on behalf of a friend who had asked him to purchase a residential unit. The investor placed the amount, along with additional Dh85,000 in a bag and left it in the living room. The next morning, he discovered the woman and the money were gone. A police officer involved in the investigation said the woman fled the UAE after handing over the stolen funds to another person for safekeeping. Authorities managed to track down the woman but recovered only Dh1.4 million from the stolen amount.

Dubai: Gang jailed, fined Dh541,000 for stealing nearly 500 phones from store
A criminal court in Dubai has sentenced six Asian men for stealing 496 smartphones from an electronics shop in Naif. The court also handed down one-year jail term for each of them plus a collective fine of Dh541,000, equivalent to the value of the stolen items. Four of the defendants were tried and sentenced in person, while two others were convicted in absentia. The court also ordered their deportation after serving their sentences. The case dates back to January this year, when the shop owner filed a complaint after receiving a call from a neighbouring shopkeeper, alerting him that the store's front door had been vandalised and the locks smashed. When the owner arrived, he discovered that nearly 500 newly-purchased mobile phones had been stolen. Security camera footage revealed one of the suspects entering the store, inspecting the shelves, and collecting phones into a bag while others waited outside. The group then fled in a taxi. Police investigation The Dubai Police team was able to identify and apprehend four suspects. A raid on one of their homes led to the recovery of 236 mobile phones. One of the suspects admitted that the seized phones were part of the stolen shipment. Others confessed they carried out the break-in with the help of a fugitive accomplice who informed them that the shop had received a shipment worth more than Dh500,000. All six men were convicted of theft. The Dubai Criminal Court issued its ruling with a one-year sentence and financial penalties, followed by mandatory deportation. The case highlights the swift action and efficiency of Dubai Police in tracking down offenders and recovering stolen goods.
