Teen boy shot dead and 3 people injured in Philippi East, motive unclear
A 16-year-old boy was shot dead and three people were wounded at a wendy house in Lower Crossroads, Philippi East, on Tuesday afternoon.
Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, said they were among eight teenagers socialising and drinking in a structure in Block 9 when a man entered and opened fire.
'The 16-year-old died due to injuries sustained, and three others were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds,' Van Wyk added.
The motive for the attack is still under investigation.
Philippi East police are investigating a murder and three counts of attempted murder.
This comes just a month after three schoolchildren were gunned down in separate shootings in nearby Samora Machel.
All three were wearing their school uniforms at the time.
No arrests have been made.
Nyanga Community Policing Forum member Dumisani Qwebe condemned violence against teenagers.
'This shows the deep challenges we face in our communities. If young people who haven't even begun contributing to society are massacred like this, what kind of future can we expect?'
