Chatsworth drug operations: One arrested and drugs seized by Durban Metro Police

Image: Durban Metro Police / Facebook The Durban Metro Police Service arrested a suspected supplier and confiscated drugs with a combined estimated street value of more than R53,000 in two operations in Chatsworth this week. The Metro Police said members of the Metro Police Drug Team and Trio Crimes Unit carried out an 'intelligence-driven operation' at an identified target's premises under an authorised search warrant. 'A primary drug supplier was arrested and taken to Chatsworth SAPS on charges of dealing and possession of Mandrax, crack cocaine, and dagga.' The operation resulted in the seizure of 58 pieces of crack cocaine, 110 Mandrax tablets, and 36 containers of dagga, with an estimated value of R13 100. Units involved included Counter Narcotics KZN, the Metro Drug Team, the Metro Trio Team, Chatsworth Metro Police (AO teams), and the Chatsworth Detective Tracing Team. Issuing a warning to those involved in the drug trade, the Durban Metro Police stated: 'Durban Metro Police will continue conducting intelligence-led operations with zero tolerance for narcotics. If you peddle drugs in our communities, expect unannounced raids, arrests, and asset seizures. We are coming for the supply chains and the networks behind them.' Video Player is loading. 'Our team, working together with the Chatsworth Detectives Tracing Team, proceeded to the location and recovered a bag containing: 164 bags of crystal meth; 140 pieces of Mandrax; 100 cones of cocaine; and 10.69 grams of Cat.' POLICE officers from the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit recovered drugs worth an estimated street value of R200 000 in Durban over the weekend. According to police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda, 'Police operationalised intelligence about drugs which were being stored at a storage facility at Point on Friday, and upon searching the premises, a black plastic bag was found, containing crystal meth, ecstasy tablets, rock cocaine and powder suspected to be cocaine. The search for the suspects is underway.' A day later, the Durban Metro Police Drug Team executed a well-co-ordinated intelligence-driven operation targeting a known drug distributor. The suspect was intercepted at Petroport northbound, Queen Nandi Drive, while allegedly attempting to deliver drugs. 'Following thorough surveillance and investigation, a significant breakthrough was achieved. The suspect, a former nightclub owner turned drug supplier for the greater Durban area, was found in possession of a large quantity of heroin and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition. The suspect is facing multiple charges including, dealing in and possession of heroin, possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
