Chatsworth drug operations: One arrested and drugs seized by Durban Metro Police

The Durban Metro Police Service arrested a suspected supplier and confiscated drugs with a combined estimated street value of more than R53,000 in two operations in Chatsworth this week.
The Metro Police said members of the Metro Police Drug Team and Trio Crimes Unit carried out an 'intelligence-driven operation' at an identified target's premises under an authorised search warrant.
'A primary drug supplier was arrested and taken to Chatsworth SAPS on charges of dealing and possession of Mandrax, crack cocaine, and dagga.'
The operation resulted in the seizure of 58 pieces of crack cocaine, 110 Mandrax tablets, and 36 containers of dagga, with an estimated value of R13 100.
Units involved included Counter Narcotics KZN, the Metro Drug Team, the Metro Trio Team, Chatsworth Metro Police (AO teams), and the Chatsworth Detective Tracing Team.
Issuing a warning to those involved in the drug trade, the Durban Metro Police stated: 'Durban Metro Police will continue conducting intelligence-led operations with zero tolerance for narcotics. If you peddle drugs in our communities, expect unannounced raids, arrests, and asset seizures. We are coming for the supply chains and the networks behind them.'

In a separate incident on Wednesday, police said they received information about drugs 'hidden in bushes along Floss Street in Chatsworth, which were about to be moved to another location.'
'Our team, working together with the Chatsworth Detectives Tracing Team, proceeded to the location and recovered a bag containing: 164 bags of crystal meth; 140 pieces of Mandrax; 100 cones of cocaine; and 10.69 grams of Cat.'
The estimated street value of the second haul was R 40,000. All exhibits were handed over to Chatsworth SAPS for processing.

A 39-year-old former accounting clerk at Curro East Lynne in Pretoria has been released on R15,000 bail for R2.8 million alleged theft. Haranet Chunisa Ullow Loetries appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Thursday where she was released on stringent bail conditions. Some of the conditions include that she must report to the Villieria Police Station every Monday and Friday between 6am and 8pm. "She may not apply for a similar position, may not interfere directly or indirectly with witnesses, and may not leave the district without informing the investigating officer," said the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana. Gauteng cop and wife charged with kidnapping, extortion of Swiss national
JOHANNESBURG - A Gauteng cop from Tarlton Police Station and his wife have appeared in court for the extortion and kidnapping of a Swiss national diamond dealer. Sergeant John Motladile and his wife, Yvonne, briefly appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates court on Wednesday afternoon. They face charges of kidnapping and extortion relating to a 23-year-old Swiss national who arrived in Joburg last week, to purchase diamonds after seeing an advert on Facebook for the gems. The victim was held against his will at a home in Randfontein last week, where he met with a prospective seller of two uncut diamonds. Motladile interrupted the sale, threatening to arrest the victim should he not pay them more than R200,000. The victim was forced into a marked police van, driven to a popular fast-food outlet and ordered to buy the Motladile and his wife food and drinks. He allegedly paid the Motladile and his wife close to R50,000, but this wasn't enough. Interpol raised the flag after the victim's family contacted authorities for assistance. The victim was released shortly after crime intelligence members made contact with him, scaring Motladile and his wife. The pair were positively identified by the victim on Tuesday and arrested. They will remain in custody before applying for bail next week.
