Shaan Says His Viral Cuss Word Meme Changed How GenZ Sees Him: 'Even My Children's Friends…'

Shaan's viral Instagram Live during the pandemic made Gen Z remember him for a meme, not his music, as he recalls the unexpected moment. News18 Back in the days of lockdown lives and endless scrolling, one moment from Shaan's Instagram session managed to break through the noise—though not in the way the singer expected. What was meant to be a casual interaction with fans turned into a viral meme that continues to follow him. In conversation with Mashable India, the playback singer explained how the now-famous clip came to be. 'I was reading the comments, and I did not have my spectacles on. I did not know that people cuss others in the comments. When I was reading them out, one of them said, 'abey ey l***a'. Someone screen-recorded me reading it, and it became a meme." The internet pounced on the clip, and suddenly Shaan found himself trending—though not for his voice. Instead, a generation knew him from a single moment on camera. 'That meme has now become my identity. Gen Z and young millennials don't know me as someone who sings; they only know me from the cuss word. Even my children's friends are surprised when they see me and say, oh hey, he's your dad? When they tell him, yeah, he's singer Shaan. They say no and show them the meme." What really kicked off the meme was Shaan's reaction to trolls flooding his livestream with foul language. Disheartened by the tone, he addressed it head-on and said, 'Ye l****a bolna band karo yaar, kya hai ye? Tameez se baat karenge, gali vali mat do. That shows your true colours." The moment got even more intense when someone in the comments questioned who he was. Shaan responded sharply. 'Ask your parents who I am, ask your teachers about me. I might have sung less, might be less popular, but I don't need to tell you who I am." Shaan's songs span a wide range of emotions and genres, making him a versatile voice in Indian music. Known for heartfelt tracks like 'Tanha Dil" and romantic hits like 'Chand Sifarish", he's also delivered peppy numbers such as 'Dus Bahane" and feel-good anthems like 'Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh". Whether it's Bollywood playback, indie pop, or regional music, Shaan's smooth, expressive singing has made his songs timeless favourites across generations. Anubhav Sinha reflects on 20 Years of 'Dus': 'I've almost forgotten I can make action films'

Anubhav Sinha's 'Dus' is a landmark Bollywood action thriller featuring a star cast including Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek Bachchan. The film follows seven SIT officers thwarting a major terrorist attack. Praised for its gripping story, intense action, and memorable music, Dus remains a cult classic two decades later. Today marks the 20th anniversary of Anubhav Sinha 's action-packed thriller 'Dus', which hit theaters on July 8, 2005. Featuring a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt , Sunil Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan , and Zayed Khan , the film achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success. The project was a significant milestone for Sinha, as it was his first time directing such a high-profile ensemble. Reflecting on two decades since its release, the director expressed his gratitude for the enduring affection the film continues to receive. Although he has since moved away from action and superhero genres, he admits that watching trailers of major action films often tempts him to revisit that thrilling cinematic territory. Fond Memories and Behind-the-Scenes Praise The filmmaker recently shared the poster of 'Dus' on social media, reflecting on how the film still receives affection despite him not having watched it in years. He fondly remembered Sanjay Dutt's words during dubbing. Taking to his X handle, he wrote, 'I remember Sanju watched it during dubbing and said, 'Sinha sahab, your work is done.' Dus Bahane had already become a massive hit across the country just from the trailer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo Vishal-Shekhar had done an outstanding job. Everyone had. The shortcomings — and there were quite a few — were all mine". A Creative Pull Towards Action and Superhero Genres Sinha confessed that he's nearly forgotten his ability to make action and superhero films. He wrote. 'Now I've almost forgotten that I can make action films. That I can make superhero films. Except for a few actors, no one even talks to me about such films anymore. Though honestly, whenever I watch the trailer of some big film, something inside stirs — should I make one more like that? Then I sit down to write something else. But the heart keeps pulling in that direction. And art comes from the heart". Dus: A Star-Studded Success with Memorable Music 'Dus', released in 2005, featured a star cast including Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Zayed Khan, Shilpa Shetty , Raima Sen , Esha Deol, and Dia Mirza, and ranked as the tenth highest earner of the year. The story followed seven fictional SIT officers, while its soundtrack, especially tracks like "Dus Bahane and Deedar De", left a lasting impact and continue to be popular today.

He said, 'In my household, I'm lucky I get to go out and make movies, but I know that Aishwarya is at home with Aaradhya and I thank her immensely for that.
