800 brothers to wear rakhis made byNagpur Central Jail women inmates
Nagpur: In a heart-warming initiative, 800 brothers are set to adorn their wrists with rakhis prepared by Nagpur central jail's women inmates. The inmates will also tie rakhis on the wrists of prison personnel, fostering a symbolic bond of brotherhood in a unique celebration of rakshabandhan, informed DySP (prisons) Deepa Aagey. "Sweets and other eatables from the prison canteen would be made available on the day of rakshabandhan," she said. The Maharashtra prison dept has set up a dedicated stall on the Nagpur Central Jail premises to showcase and sell rakhis and other handcrafted items created by the inmates. The dept has also started receiving rakhis from sisters for their incarcerated brothers, ensuring that the festival's spirit is shared by those behind bars and their families. "The letters and rakhis would be handed over to the male inmates," said the DySP, adding no eatables from outside would be allowed. Last week, an exhibition and rakshabandhan fair was inaugurated at the Prison Goods Sales Center on Wardha Road. The event, graced by ZP CEO Vinayak Mahamuni, and attended by Suhas Warke, additional director general of police and inspector general, prisons and correctional services, Maharashtra state, and Yogesh Desai, deputy inspector general of prisons, eastern division. Under the motto of 'Reformation and Rehabilitation', the Maharashtra prisons dept emphasizes skill development and talent nurturing among inmates, informed superintendent of Nagpur central prison Vaibhav Aagey. The annual rakshabandhan fair is a testament to this mission, offering a platform for prisoners to display their craftsmanship. The sales centre will feature an array of handmade items, including colourful rakhis, wooden and iron showpieces, mats, seat covers, clothes, towels, and more, all crafted by the inmates. Denied POCSO case, father ends life outside Chitradurga police station; SP orders probe
CHITRADURGA : A distraught father's desperate attempt to register a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the youth who married his 18-year-old daughter cost him his life. Ajjayya (54), a farmer from Gilikenahalli, consumed poison in front of Holalkere police station on Sunday. The police shifted him to Chitradurga District Hospital but he died on Monday. Irate villagers and Ajjayya's family members kept the body near the police station. The mob also tried to attack the DySP, forcing the cops to resort to lathicharge. The Gilikenahalli marriage story unfolded first as a missing complaint case filed by the girl's mother at the Holalkere police station. What made things difficult for the police were two separate birth certificates that raised questions over the adult status of the daughter, Sanjana. As per the birth certificate produced by the mother, Pushpa, Sanjana was 19 and studying for an undergraduate course. On July 15, Sanjana and her husband, Raghu, appeared before the police and said they are adults and have married. The police then closed the missing case complaint. But Ajjayya produced another birth certificate, this time from Davanagere Corporation, stating the girl was under 18 years. The police did not budge and refused to register a case under POCSO Act against Raghu, who also hails from the same village as that of Ajayya. Superintendent of Police Ranjith Kumar Bandaru on Tuesday held a press conference in the city and said that they would investigate Ajjayya's suicide. Madhya Pradesh Cop Dies By Suicide, Alleges Harassment In Chilling Videos
Bhopal: A 51-year-old assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police, Pramod Pavan, allegedly died by suicide at his official quarters inside the Godan Police Station premises in Madhya Pradesh's Datia district early Tuesday morning. The cop was found hanging inside his official residence. But what has sent shockwaves across the state are a series of chilling videos he posted before he killed himself - videos in which he names serving police officers and local mafia members, accusing them of mental harassment, caste discrimination, and even death threats. Wearing his police uniform, ASI Pramod Pavan, in his recorded messages, alleges that he was mentally tortured by Godan Police Station in-charge Arvind Singh Bhadauria, constable-driver Roop Narayan Yadav, and Tharet police station in-charge Anfasul Hasan. The reason? He claims it began after he intercepted a tractor-trolley carrying illegally mined sand linked to local mafia member Babloo Yadav. "Since then, I've been harassed continuously. I haven't been allowed to leave the station to even get my Aadhaar or Samagra cards made. Casteist slurs are hurled at me daily. I can't even eat properly. These men, including Babloo Yadav, have threatened to kill me by running a tractor over me," Pramod Pavan alleges in one of the videos. In another video reportedly recorded just before the alleged suicide Pavan exposes the operation of illegal gambling dens, allegedly protected by the same set of officers. He names Raghu Yadav, Ram Lakhan Yadav, and Ramraja Yadav as key operators of illegal gambling, allegedly enjoying protection from Bhadauria and Yadav. He further claims that multiple murders, including the 2024 killing of Narendra Yadav, are linked to these dens, and that if the call records of constable Roop Narayan Yadav are scrutinised, "crucial murder evidence will emerge". Godan Police Station in-charge Arvind Singh Bhadauria has been attached to police lines, and a probe has been ordered under DySP (AJK) to ensure transparency. Speaking to NDTV, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Umesh Garg said, "We received information this morning that he died by suicide last night. All senior officials are present at the scene. An investigation is underway, and action will follow based on its findings. Every video will be examined impartially. The documents he shared will also be scrutinised thoroughly, and a fair and unbiased inquiry will be ensured." The incident once again puts the spotlight on rampant illegal sand mining in Gwalior-Chambal region, a deadly business that has already claimed the lives of: Deputy Forest Ranger Subedar Kushwah in 2018 (crushed to death by a mining vehicle), IPS officer Narendra Kumar in 2012 (killed by a sand-laden tractor-trolley). In 2019, then-Congress minister Govind Singh had admitted on record that Datia and Bhind districts were hotspots for illegal mining and mafia activity.

Dharmasthala burials case: Police flag issues in providing protection for complainant
In the absence of clear information about the complainant's location in the Dharmasthala burial case, the Dakshina Kannada police have informed the competent authority that it will be difficult to provide him with protection. The Deputy Superintendent of Police submitted a report in this regard to the Dakshina Kannada Principal District and Sessions Judge, who heads the three-member district committee on witness protection. In a statement, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police K. Arun said that, at the complainant's request, the District and Sessions Judge-headed committee had recently granted him witness protection. Rule 7 of the Witness Protection Rules states that actions for protection will be taken with the consent and cooperation of the witness. This was conveyed to the advocates representing the complainant by the DySP via email on July 10. All communication regarding the case was being made to the advocates through email. There was no information available about the complainant's location. In such a scenario, DySP has expressed in his report about the difficulty in providing protection. The report also mentioned that in the event of a complainant's absence during the later stages of the investigation, the police lack information to physically locate the complainant, the SP stated. Reacting to the statement, advocates S.J. Dheeraj and Ananya Gowda, who claim to represent the complainant, said the complainant has not sought anonymity to escape scrutiny. On the contrary, his decision to come forward and instruct his lawyers to release a redacted complaint and FIR was a conscious act, taken in the interest of his safety. It was wrong for the police to now suggest that, merely because some information of the complainant was available through their (advocates) press releases and other media, they (police) were relieved of their duty to protect the complainant. The actions of the police go contrary to the letter and spirit of the Witness Protection Scheme, 2018, the two advocates stated.
