Michigan State SP Joseph Dzierwa named Big Ten's Pitcher of the Year Michigan State baseball made the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since 2023, having a successful season in regards to team success, but the star of the Spartans on the diamond has capped his impressive year. Junior pitcher Joseph Dzierwa was the best pitcher on the Spartans roster, and the MSU ace was recognized by the Big Ten. Dzierwa was named as the Big Ten Conference's Pitcher of the Year, going along with his honor as a first team All-Big Ten player. The awards come on the heels of a season in which Dzierwa tossed a 2.36 earned run average in 14 starts, going along with a WHIP of 0.96 and tossing over 100 strikeouts. This junior campaign for Dzierwa has solidified himself as a top MLB prospect in the 2025 MLB Draft coming up this summer, and he is sure to be one of the top picks in the draft. Oregon Baseball kicks off Big Ten Tournament as No. 1 seed Oregon baseball finally made it to Omaha, but the Ducks never imagined it would be like this. Oregon opens up the Big Ten Conference tournament which is being held in Omaha, with the 10-seeded Michigan State Spartans. It's just a coincidence that the conference tourney is in the same location as the College World Series. The Ducks have to be hoping this will be just the first trip to Omaha this year. The Ducks secured the No. 1 seed and the regular season title as they swept Iowa on the road. Oregon has won 10 straight games and is one of the hottest teams in the nation. The Ducks and Spartans are in Pool A with Nebraska. The winner of the pool will move on to the semifinals May 24. Oregon and Nebraska missed each other in the regular season, but the Ducks did play the Spartans in East Lansing just a couple of weeks ago, where Oregon managed to win two of three. In the first game, Spartan pitcher Joseph Dzierwa threw a complete game shutout to defeat the Ducks 2-0. But Oregon took the final two games by the scores of 13-5 and 3-1. Michigan State faces Nebraska on May 20, and it's a good bet Dzierwa pitches in that game and not against the Ducks two days later. The Ducks and Spartans are scheduled for a 4 pm PST first pitch May 22. Michigan State SP Joseph Dzierwa was named one of the best in college baseball Michigan State baseball has had an up and down season, but one thing has stayed consistent, the performances given by their ace starting pitcher Joseph Dzierwa have been incredible. The Spartans south paw has been recognized once again for what he brings to the table. In 2025, Dzierwa has made 12 starts, posting a 7-and-2 record with a 2.20 earned run average. He has totaled 86 strikeouts in 73.2 innings of work, while holding opponents to just a .197 batting average and posting a 0.99 WHIP. With his standout numbers in 2025, Dzierwa was recognized by D1 Baseball as one of the sport's top pitchers. In a top-150 ranking by D1 Baseball, Dzierwa checked in as the No. 8 pitcher in college baseball, showing the proper recognition for the standout display he has had on the mound this season. The Spartans will look to play for their Big Ten Tournament lives over the next two weekends, with two more Dzierwa starts on the docket. MSU pitcher named to watch list for top amateur baseball award Michigan State's Joseph Dzierwa has been arguably the top pitcher in the Big Ten this year A pitcher on the Spartans has been named to the midseason watch list for the top award in amateur baseball. Michigan State baseball's Joseph Dzierwa has been named to the midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award, presented by Chinook Seedery. The official watch list was revealed on Thursday. Dzierwa is one of 45 to be included on the award's watch list. The Golden Spikes Award is annually handed out to the best college or high school baseball player in the country. Dzierwa is a left-handed pitcher from Haskins, Ohio and has starred for the Spartans all season long. He leads the Big Ten and ranks fifth in the nation in ERA at 1.27. He also leads the Big Ten in strikeouts with 54 and WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) at 0.87. Dzierwa is a huge reason for the Spartans getting off to one of their best starts in a long time this season. Michigan State is currently 17-10 overall and 4-5 in Big Ten play. Spartans LHP Joseph Dzierwa named Big Ten Pitcher of Week again
It appears Michigan State baseball has a special one in Joseph Dzierwa. For a second straight week, Dzierwa has been named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week. The left-handed junior pitcher received the honor from the league on Monday afternoon. According to Michigan State Athletics, Dzierwa becomes the first Michigan State baseball player to earn a Big Ten weekly award of any kind in consecutive weeks in program history. Dzierwa racked up a career-high 12 strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched in his second career start last week against Washington State. He surrendered only one hit and one walk, and those both came in the first frame. In two starts this season, Dzierwa has given up only two hits, two walks and zero earned runs across 13.0 innings pitched. He has recorded 23 strikeouts between the two starts. Michigan State baseball is off to a great start this year, with a 6-1 record thus far. The Spartans moved into the NCBWA (National College Baseball Writers Association) rankings this week (No. 23) for the first time since 2016.
