Michigan State SP Joseph Dzierwa named Big Ten's Pitcher of the Year
Michigan State baseball made the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since 2023, having a successful season in regards to team success, but the star of the Spartans on the diamond has capped his impressive year. Junior pitcher Joseph Dzierwa was the best pitcher on the Spartans roster, and the MSU ace was recognized by the Big Ten.
Dzierwa was named as the Big Ten Conference's Pitcher of the Year, going along with his honor as a first team All-Big Ten player. The awards come on the heels of a season in which Dzierwa tossed a 2.36 earned run average in 14 starts, going along with a WHIP of 0.96 and tossing over 100 strikeouts.
This junior campaign for Dzierwa has solidified himself as a top MLB prospect in the 2025 MLB Draft coming up this summer, and he is sure to be one of the top picks in the draft.

Former Ohio State tight end Jeremy Ruckert responds to being reunited with Justin Fields Former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields seems to have found himself a new opportunity to seize a major role in the NFL with the New York Jets after signing a two-year deal with the club. A byproduct of that is that he gets a chance to reconnect with a couple of other former Buckeyes that he played with in Columbus. We've already heard from receiver Garrett Wilson on his excitement to play with the former Heisman Finalist and first-round NFL draft pick, but the electric receiver isn't the only former OSU player donning a Jets uniform. Former tight end Jeremy Ruckert, who played for Ohio State from 2018 to 2021, got to block for and catch passes from Fields on the banks of the Olentangy for two years. So yeah, he too has some history with the guy the Jets' brass hopes turns around the fortunes of the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets. Ruckert was asked by the New York media what it means to be playing with his college teammate again, and was excited more for the team than himself. "Any time you get a chance to reconnect with one of your teammates, whether it's in the League or college, it's great,: Ruckert told reporters. "I'm excited where we're going as a team and the culture we're setting, and I think he's (Fields) perfect for that role, and just these last couple of weeks to get back on the same page and get our timing right with all the guys. It's been special to be a part of that, but also kind of get the other guys rolling and continue to grow as a unit." If you are an Ohio State fan, there aren't too many storylines that jump out more than what Fields does in New York. If he can use his athletic gifts the right way and still find a way to stay poised and present in the pocket, we could see a budding star coming to light just a little later than we thought. UNC wide receiver speaks on staying in Chapel Hill with Bill Belichick arrival Will Jordan Shipp become one of Bill Belichick's top offensive producers this fall? The transfer portal dictates how college football rosters are shaped today, with UNC being a prime example heading into its 2025 season. North Carolina replaced its entire starting defensive line through the portal, headlined by names like Pryce Yates and CJ Mims. The Tar Heels also snagged several offensive linemen in the portal, likely starting quarterback Gio Lopez, a pair of star linebackers and top-ranked cornerback Thaddeus Dixon. Add in coaching changes – and roster loyalty dwindles even further. UNC hired 8-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick to be its head coach in December, hoping to bring a consistent winning culture to Chapel Hill. Expected 2025 starters for North Carolina transferred out of Chapel Hill, but several guys stayed. One key player who decided to stay a Tar Heels is sophomore wide receiver Jordan Shipp, who caught nine passes for 114 yards and a touchdown in 2024. Shipp recently spoke on his decision to stay. "It's hard to transfer from a school that you love so much," Shipp told the media. "I've had a lot of friends that came here, a lot of friends that have been successful here – and it's also hard to leave the greatest coach of all time. Knowing you have one of the greatest coaches of all time coming here, it wouldn't have been smart for me to leave.' With no J.J. Jones or Nate McCollum, expect to see Shipp earn starting minutes in 2025. Joining Shipp in the wideout room are Michigan State transfer Aziah Johnson, Colorado transfer Adrian Wilson and Washington transfer Jason Robinson Jr., while the likes of Javarius Green, Chris Culliver and Paul Billups are 2024 holdovers. WATCH: Ohio State football player, staffer compete in three-point shooting contest In case you haven't noticed, the Ohio State football program is passing the time during a slow summer by competing in some "June Olympics." It's a competition of different athletic competitions between the OSU staff and the players, and so far it's been a hoot to watch it all go down. The staff got out to an early lead, but the players won three events in a row to take a 3-1 lead before the older guys trimmed the lead to 3-2. And now, after the latest event, a three-point shooting contest between OSU staffer Matt Guerrieri and wide receiver Bryson Rodgers, things are all tied up. That's because Guerrieri battled through some suspect shots to bury the one that mattered, giving the staff the win and even the competition at 3-3. If you missed any of the action, get a look at the cliff notes version of what went down on the courts of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. We're not sure when these June Olympics are over, or how many events there are, but it's fun to watch and keep up with, so we'll do our best to stay on top of it. We say, go old guys.
