Woman held for abandoning newborn in Lahad Datu
The abandoned baby. LAHAD DATU (July 21): Police have detained a woman suspected of abandoning her newborn baby boy in Kampung Burung, Jalan Bakawali, here last Friday. Lahad Datu District Police Chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the 30-year-old woman was detained at the Lahad Datu District Police Headquarters yesterday after giving her statement. 'Initial investigations found that the woman gave birth at home and placed her baby outside the house in a panic after delivering,' he said when contacted here today. Dzulbaharin stated the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandoning a child, which carries a penalty of up to seven years' imprisonment, or a fine, or both, if convicted. Last Friday, media reported that a baby boy was found by a member of the public wrapped in cloth in front of a house in the village at 3:06 a.m. The baby was sent to Lahad Datu Hospital for further treatment but died at 7:02 p.m. due to premature birth.

Online gaming, prostitution suspects nabbed

District Police Chief, ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said, a 24-year-old local man was detained at about 2.30pm on Thursday at Lorong Lahad Datu Square 1 by the Crime Investigation Division on suspicion of conducting online gambling activities. Advertisement 'The team also seized a smartphone that contains a gambling application. 'This case would be investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953. which provides for a fine of between RM10,000 and RM100,000 and a jail term of up to five years, on conviction,' he said. According to Dzulbaharin, at 10.30pm on the same day, police arrested a 21-year-old woman offering sexual services via MiChat application. He said, the suspect was detained following Op Noda conducted by the Crime Investigation Division on a hotel at Lahad Datu town. 'The suspect was believed to provide sexual service with payment between RM250 to RM350. The team also seized some condoms and cash during the operation. 'The case would be investigated under Section 372 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one-year imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction,' said Dzulbaharin in a statement on Friday. He said the Lahad Datu Police Headquarters take serious views on all forms of crime that can threaten the well-being of the community, especially social crimes involving baby dumping, prostitution and gambling. Newly born baby found abandoned in Lahad Datu
The baby boy found abandoned in front of a house at Kampung Burung, Jalan Bakawali in Lahad Datu. LAHAD DATU (July 18): A newly born baby boy was found abandoned in front of a house at Kampung Burung, Jalan Bakawali, here early Friday morning. Lahad Datu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Dzulbaharin Ismail said the baby was found by a villager at 3.06am and immediately took him to the Lahad Datu hospital for treatment. 'The baby is in good and stable condition,' he said in a statement on Friday. Dzulbaharin said the case will be investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for baby dumping. Police are seeking cooperation from the public with information to come forward to assist in the investigation. Dzulbaharin expressed his appreciation to the villager who immediately reported the incident to the authority, and reminded that baby dumping is a serious and inhumane criminal offense. The police called on the public to always be aware and concerned about any suspicious incidents in their surroundings, and to immediately report them to the police to ensure the safety and well-being of the community is always maintained.

Abandoned newborn rescued in Lahad Datu
KOTA KINABALU: A newborn baby boy wrapped in a cloth was rescued by a passerby after he spotted the child left outside a house in Lahad Datu. Lahad Datu district police chief Asst Comm Dzulbaharin Ismail said the abandoned baby was in stable condition after he was rushed to the Lahad Datu hospital following the discovery. He said the baby was found left in front of an unnumbered house in Kampung Burung along Jalan Bakawali at about 3.06pm on Friday (July 18). "The baby's condition is reported to be stable," he added. He said investigations were underway to track down people responsible for abandoning the child. He called on the public to inform Lahad Datu police of any information regarding the case. The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandoning a baby with the intention of permanently deserting the baby. In an unrelated case, ACP Dzulbaharin said a 24-year-old local man was arrested for suspected involvement with online gambling activities in the Lahad Datu Square area on Thursday (July 18). He said police seized a smartphone containing a gambling application, in the investigation under Section 4B(a) of the Open Gambling Houses Act 1953. Dzulbaharin reiterated that the police view seriously all forms of crime that threaten community safety, especially those involving social crimes such as infanticide and prostitution. 'The Lahad Datu police will continue to take firm action without compromise to ensure the safety and harmony of the local community,' he added.
