
Newly born baby found abandoned in Lahad Datu
LAHAD DATU (July 18): A newly born baby boy was found abandoned in front of a house at Kampung Burung, Jalan Bakawali, here early Friday morning.
Lahad Datu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Dzulbaharin Ismail said the baby was found by a villager at 3.06am and immediately took him to the Lahad Datu hospital for treatment.
'The baby is in good and stable condition,' he said in a statement on Friday.
Dzulbaharin said the case will be investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for baby dumping.
Police are seeking cooperation from the public with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Dzulbaharin expressed his appreciation to the villager who immediately reported the incident to the authority, and reminded that baby dumping is a serious and inhumane criminal offense.
The police called on the public to always be aware and concerned about any suspicious incidents in their surroundings, and to immediately report them to the police to ensure the safety and well-being of the community is always maintained.

RM34,800 damage: Duo charged with setting fire to restaurant using firecrackers in George Town
GEORGE TOWN, July 31 — A man and a woman pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of committing mischief by setting fire to a restaurant last week. Coffee shop assistant Khoo Teng Chi, 32, and Joanne Lim, 37, made the plea after the charge was read out in Mandarin before Judge Irwan Suainbon. They were jointly charged with committing the offence by setting fire, with the use of firecrackers and throwing them, at the premises of Jing Zhang Restaurant & Bar owned by a woman, causing damage amounting to RM34,800. Khoo and Lim were charged with committing the offence at No. 10, Jalan Pahang here, at 5.19 am on July 23 this year. They were charged under Section 435 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same law, which provides for a jail term of up to 14 years and a fine upon conviction. The court allowed them bail of RM8,000 with one surety each and also ordered them to report to a police station once a month, as well as not to intimidate witnesses. Man arrested for threatening father with machete in Lahad Datu

The suspect was detained during an 11pm Op Cantas raid, where police also seized a machete believed to have been used in the 6.15pm incident.
