Construction of 202 meters of Polavaram diaphragm wall completed: Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu

1 2 3 Vijayawada: Stating that the state govt is determined to complete Polavaram project by 2027, water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu has said that about 202 meters of the diaphragm wall construction has already been completed. Speaking to media here on Monday, the minister explained that the diaphragm wall, which was damaged during the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy regime, has been revived after the NDA govt came to power in state last year. He explained that they launched the new diaphragm wall work on Jan 18 with a budget of ₹990 crore and put the work on fast track mode as chief minister Chandrababu Naidu is closely monitoring the progress. "The work is being carried out swiftly using two cutters and two grabbers, with a third cutter set to be operational in a week. To ensure that the work continues even during the monsoon season, the upper cofferdam will be strengthened with a buttress dam, which is expected to be completed by May," said Ramanaidu. He said that the diaphragm wall construction will be completed by the end of Dec 2025. Without waiting for the diaphragm wall's completion, the construction of the ECRF dam at Gap-1 has already started in April, and work on the ECRF dam at Gap-2 is planned to begin by November 30, he said. The minister emphasized that efforts are being made to accelerate the work to complete the Polavaram project by Dec 2027. "We wanted to complete the project before Godavari Pushkarams in June, 2027 as per the advice of chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. We are sure of completing the project by Dec, 2027 at any cost," said Ramanaidu. He said that the previous govt had completely destroyed the project's progress with its mindless approach. He said that they have already called tenders for works with a cost of Rs 1,200 crore to ensure the completion of all the works associated with the project. The minister added that Godavari floodwaters will be diverted through the left canal to the Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi project, ensuring irrigation and drinking water for north andhra.
