Nelly Slams Kamala Harris For Imprisoning Black Men & Having A White Husband, Social Media Reacts

Nelly is the latest celebrity-turned-internet-punching-bag, and it's because he's been dragged into the political debate sphere. The St. Louis rapper recently sat down with Hot 97's Ebro In The Morning , where he spoke about the flak he got for performing at President Trump's inauguration. Despite accepting the gig, Nelly says it's got nothing to do with being a Trump supporter, instead framing it as having 'respect for the office.' 'It's great how people spin narratives to things that I think best fit whatever they're against. You know what I'm saying?' He continued. 'Instead of giving a brother the exact fundamentals of what he did, what he said. Nobody's doing that anymore.' Nelly sticks to saying he's never endorsed a president and adds that agreeing to the performance was more so him paying respect to the men and women who serve this country, because he himself is a military brat. The defense continued after The Shade Room posted a clip of the interview, and he hopped into the comments section. He even named fellow inauguration performer Snoop Dogg, saying they 'do more in the community and have been doing for over 20 + years against any of you that are just on here talking trash.' His lengthy comment takes a turn when, without mentioning her name, he speaks on Kamala Harris, calling her the 'prosecutor who has probably locked up more Black men that we've helped.' Beyond professional criticism, he even took personal digs, referring to her as the 'woman of color with the white husband and white kids. She did not win the election.' Despite Nelly's pointed comments about Harris, he maintains that he did not campaign for either candidate and attempts to remain neutral. He adds, 'I respect and love our country from top to bottom good and bad… and I am very aware that it's a lot of things in this country that we need to work on the right is too far right and the left is too far left.' His Harris bashing, paired with his refusal to change the diapers of his newborn son with his wife, Ashanti, has him getting roasted on social media. See the reactions below. Nelly blasts Kamala Harris for 'locking up black men' and having a white husband

Music superstar Nelly slammed presidential loser Kamala Harris in a shocking tirade months after performing at Donald Trump's inauguration ball. The drama unfolded when the rapper hit back at accusations he was 'Pro-Trump' during a chat on Hot 97's Ebro In The Morning podcast saying his performance was not an indicator of his endorsement of any presidential candidate. He said: 'See, this is what I'm saying. Where did you get pro-Donald? What you had was "respect for office.'' Nelly continued: 'And it's great how people spin narratives to things that I think best fit whatever they're against. You know what I'm saying? Instead of giving a brother the exact fundamental of what he did, what he said. Nobody's doing that anymore.' As fans accused the star of being 'manipulative' and resorting to word salad to confuse his audience, Nelly jumped into The Shade Room's comments section to blast the prosecutor for 'locking up black men' as well as taking aim at her 'white husband,' Doug Emhoff Nelly also slammed fans for 'dumping on black men married to black women' because Harris lost the election, as well as defending fellow African-American artist Snoop Dogg for also performing for Trump. Nelly wrote: 'I'll put whatever up me and snoop do more in the community and have been doing for over 20 + years against any of you that are just on here talking trash and have no stats to back up what you mean to the community. 'From the black families that we employ to the black children that we help every day and all year through our nonprofits, whether we're sending kids to schools on scholarships to HBCU or helping young black boys in la 'gang central ' with his junior football programs which many players have went on to go to the NFL and live their dreams. 'And on top of that we are 'Black Men' married to beautiful Black women with black children... should be inspiring to most but that some of y'all have a problem with because the prosecutor who has probably locked up more black men that we've helped woman of color with the white husband and white kids.' Nelly continued: '[Harris] Did not win the election... again I reiterate, I did not campaign for anyone. I do not tell people who to vote for. I respect and love our country from top to bottom good and bad… and I am very aware there's a lot of things in this country that we need to work on the right is too far right and the left is too far left. 'I'm a military baby with a grand uncle who is a Tuskegee airmen and red tail that was very prideful for his country I told you it's my respect for the office meaning any president that calls upon Nelly it would be a honor... nothing to do with money. 'Nothing to do with race but if you wanna make it about race, then let's goooooooooooooo I find it very interesting.' Nelly added: 'That's so many of you would dump on the two black men that's married to black women that has black children because the '' woman of color with the white husband and white kids. Didn't win..!!' Fans were baffled by the rappers tirade and did not hold back in giving him their opinions. One person commented: 'Why so many shade at Kamala???? just say you performed, you f*** with trump. 'I respect you and all that you have done, but be please be clear, it's not about Kamala not winning, it's about what Donald Trump stands for. I respect the office. I do not respect the man that is in office at this present time.' However, one supporter of the musician added: 'Nelly no matter what you do, as far as it makes you happy and loved , am solidly behind you . Period,' In January the star responded to backlash over his decision to perform at the Liberty Ball which celebrated the inauguration of Trump. The rapper, who along with Snoop Dogg, took part in the inaugural festivities, explained his reasons for accepting the invitation to right-wing journalist Officer Lew on X. He wrote: 'I'm not doing this for money, I'm doing this 'cause it's an honor. I respect the office. It don't matter who in office.' He compared himself to members of the military, writing: 'The same way our men and women, our brothers and sisters who protect this country have to go to war and have to put their life on the line for whoever in the office. So, if they can put they life on the line for whoever in office, I can damn sure perform for whoever in office.' Lew then asked him: 'What do you say to the people that say "we're not giving you this backlash because of your political affiliation or because of your political choice, or whatever, we're giving you this backlash because you are propping up a white supremacist?"' Nelly answered: 'I would ask them to show me where he's a white supremacist.' Nelly then brought up components of the 1994 Crime Bill sponsored by then-Senator Joe Biden, confusing it with the 1986 Crime Bill signed by Ronald Reagan, which which called for a minimum mandatory sentence of five years without parole for anyone caught with five grams of crack cocaine. The 1994 Crime Bill did fund the building of prisons to hold more people convicted of violent crimes and is blamed by many for the mass incarceration of members of the Black community. sarcastically referring to a comment President Joe Biden made in an interview with Charlamagne tha God, Nelly said: 'Okay, I did get it. He did say "if you don't vote me, you're not black," right?' Then Nelly ventured back into Trump's past saying: 'I'mma get to it. He did not rent to black people, what was in the 70s or 80s, is that what they said, and like, okay, is he renting to them now? So, nobody's allowed to change?' In 1970, Trump and his father Fred were sued by the Justice Department for refusing to rent to people of color, but the case was settled when Trump Management promised to stop discriminating against potential renters. The 1968 Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to refuse to rent or sell housing based on race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, familial status, or national origin. Nelly continued: 'See, here's the thing, we can talk about pasts, but we never want to talk about our pasts. If our pasts get brought up, in our community for a lot of what of our men did, we always call it rehab... these young brothers we been through a lot. 'I know I've been through a lot. If my past was what was going to prevent me from winning today, I wouldn't be here.' Referring to Trump the rapper said: 'I'm not saying that he aint got some f***ed up ways, that's not what I'm saying at all, that's why I'm not telling you who to vote for. But what I'm saying is that he's the president of the United States. He's not the candidate for the United States, He's the president. He won.' Nelly's comments drew praise from people of all backgrounds. One person wrote: 'Nelly is a class act. He's always seen through the garbage.' Another added: 'Key words here for NELLY. "I respect the Office." Not about the person. This is right is no many ways.' A third said: 'As an African American that has supported Trump since 2016 I can relate to what Nelly is saying!'

Ryan Coogler says he was $200,000 in debt when he made 'Creed'—now 'Sinners' could pay him for the rest of his life

Ryan Coogler's new movie "Sinners" has garnered at least $71 million in box office revenue since its April 18 theatrical release — but it's the deal he inked with Warner Bros. to make the movie that's significant for a film director who was deep in debt roughly a decade ago. Coogler discussed his personal debt history, which he said he experienced while directing the 2015 movie "Creed," during an April 15 episode of the "WTF with Marc Maron" podcast. "Back then, bro, I wasn't making no money," said Coogler, 38. "I was $200,000 in debt for film school. It was bad." Now, his "Sinners" deal with Warner Bros. reportedly includes a provision that'll give him the rights to the movie after 25 years, according to Vulture. By the time his kids are adults, Coogler could potentially receive royalties from streaming services or television broadcasts — that would otherwise go to the production studio — for the rest of his life. He could also snag merchandising deals and receive lump-sum payments from licensees seeking rights to the film for set periods of time. Directors don't typically obtain ownership of their films, even decades after their cinematic release, making Coogler's "Sinners" deal a rarity in Hollywood. Coogler attended the University of Southern California's School of the Cinematic Arts, obtaining a master's degree in fine arts in 2011. His struggle to afford the costs of filmmaking began even earlier, as he worked toward his undergraduate degree at St. Mary's College of California and California State University, Sacramento, he told the "Ebro In The Morning" radio show in 2018. "I was trying to write [movies] in Microsoft Word. It's impossible because your format gotta be right," Coogler said. "I was broke, playing football on the little scholarship money. And my wife scraped together some cheese and bought me Final Draft, which is the software that you write your movies on."While working on his master's degree, Coogler made the film "Fruitvale Station," which debuted at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and took home two awards: the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. That success helped him land a deal with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios to create "Creed" with a $35 million budget. The movie made $42.6 million on opening weekend, launching Coogler's Hollywood career. He directed the 2018 Marvel film "Black Panther," which netted $1.3 billion in box office revenue, making him one of highest-grossing Black filmmakers ever and the youngest director to lead a billion-dollar movie. Coogler requested future ownership of "Sinners" because the movie — specifically, the two protagonists' fight for ownership of a juke joint in the Jim Crow South — was directly inspired by his family's history, he told Business Insider on April 7. His Warner Bros. deal also reportedly gave him the power to decide the final version of the film, and a percentage of box-office revenue as soon as the movie hit theaters — instead of after the studio makes a profit. He doesn't plan to make similar requests for future films, he told Business Insider. "That was the only motivation," said Coogler, adding: "It was [only for] this specific project."
