Tuners Create Ford Ranger Raptor R With a Supercharged V8

The latest car news, reviews, and features. In case you hadn't heard, the Ford Ranger Raptor is a weapon. When my buddy Andrew reviewed it last March, he called it an 'instant classic,' and it even won The Drive 's Truck of the Year award. Not only is its Fox Live Valve suspension incredible, paired with that snazzy Watts link rear-end, but the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 is also mighty in its own right with 405 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. But what if Ford made a Ranger Raptor R with a V8? That's effectively what Killa Conversions and Performance out of Australia has created with its new supercharged Coyote V8 swap. It elevates the power specs to 750 hp and 670 lb-ft of torque thanks to a Roush blower. Importantly, this switcharoo also involves a transmission swap to the sturdier 10R80 from the stock 10R60 in the Ranger Raptor, Bronco Raptor, and Explorer ST. Now, I can't pretend to know what this rig is like to drive. But I imagine it compares similarly to the F-150 Raptor and its Raptor R counterpart. The supercharged, dual overhead cam 5.0-liter surely makes it faster on the top end and rowdier all around, if not necessarily better in most real-world situations. Both the F-150 and Ranger Raptor are more than capable enough; crank up the power and you start to see diminishing returns on handling and, crucially, balance. But whoever's willing to pony up nearly $57,000 USD on top of the cost of the truck probably cares more about V8 grunt anyway. You have to remember that this isn't being marketed in the States, where you can buy an F-150 Raptor R for $115,000. In Australia, one of those full-size monsters costs the equivalent of $230,000. That means this DIY Ranger Raptor R is a big bargain at the US equivalent of $125,000 all-in. The Gen 3 Coyote on its own wouldn't be a worthwhile swap. Sure, the noise is good, and even though the naturally aspirated V8 makes 460 hp on its own, it's actually down 10 lb-ft of torque compared to the 3.0-liter EcoBoost. That explains why Killa Conversions and Performance went all the way over the top with the supercharger. If it weren't for that, I'd feel a little meh about this truck. If you're going to eliminate the finesse of a factory-built rally truck with more power, you'd better give it enough to blow through the turns it can't make. I'd say that's exactly what they've done here. Got a tip or question for the author? Richmond County Sheriff's Office issuing new patrol vehicles

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is rolling out its 2025 fleet of new patrol vehicles. The RCSO's Ford Interceptors with 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engines feature 45-degree angled lightbars and dual 400-watt sirens. According to the sheriff's office, the vehicles will be issued to deputies on a performance-style basis, rather than seniority. 'While we still have a long road ahead with an aging fleet—some vehicles over 15 years old—we are committed to modernization,' the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post Monday, May 12. 'National standards recommend replacing patrol vehicles every five years, and we're working hard to get there.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Stolen Mustang Gets Pitted Hard In Georgia

Read the full story on The Auto Wire After successfully fleeing from local police earlier in the day, a woman driving the Ford Mustang she stole learned a hard lesson at the hands of Clayton County Sheriff's Blackhawk unit. The deputies in that elite force are trained for high-speed, risky pursuits, so they were able to chase down and PIT the pony car out with relative probably didn't hurt that the suspect was reportedly high at the time. Perhaps that's in part why she decided to walk into a funeral parlor, take the director's keys, then drive off in his Mustang. Hours later, members of Blackhawk spot the white Ford convertible and try pulling it over, as you can see in the included dashcam video. They probably already knew the driver was going to run and she didn't disappoint. However, she made the mistake not only of taking a vehicle that doesn't belong to her, but snagging an EcoBoost instead of a GT. With a wimpy turbocharged four-cylinder engine, she doesn't stand a chance against the deputies' Hemi V8-powered Chargers. For all the EcoBoost fans who can't handle the truth, this is exactly why your pony doesn't get much respect. Instead of giving the suspect time to pull a move and slip away or do something else stupid, the lead deputy almost immediately performs a well-executed PIT maneuver. The Ford spins one way, the driver overcorrects, and it spins the other direction, slamming into the concrete barrier. That does significant damage to the Mustang, perhaps more than can be seen in the video. We're guessing the funeral director is going to get a big insurance payout with a new car in his future. But the female suspect didn't get away and is now facing consequences in the justice system. Ford Announces Major Vehicle Recall of 148,000 Trucks & SUVs

Ford Motor Company has announced a massive recall of more than 148,000 trucks and SUVs. According to Automotive News, the two recalls encompass 148,266 vehicles and were announced by NHTSA on April 11, 2025. The largest recall affects 123,611 vehicles, according to the recall report. "In some of the affected vehicles, the brake master cylinder may allow brakefluid to leak from the brake master cylinder front wheel circuit into the brakebooster," the recall report says. "A substantial loss of brake fluid can reduce brake function to the front wheels. Reduced brake function in the front wheels can extend stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash." Affected vehicles include 2017-2018 Ford F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator models with 3.5L EcoBoost engines, the recall report says. The remedy is listed as, "Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the brake master cylinder replaced. Inaddition, the brake booster will be replaced if the brake master cylinder is leaking. There will be no charge for this service." According to MLive, the second recall "involves 24,655 Ford Explorer SUVs from the 2025 model year. A problem with the powertrain control module (PCM) can cause it to reset while driving. If that happens, it can damage the vehicle's park system or cause an engine stall." According to NHTSA, in 2024, 1,073 safety recalls "affected more than 35 million vehicles and pieces of equipment, including tires and car seats. More than 29 million vehicles were recalled in 2024, highlighting the importance of checking for recalls and completing needed recall repairs." 'Checking for recalls on your vehicle could save your loved ones' lives or your own,' NHTSA Chief Counsel Peter Simshauser said in that news release. 'Spring is a great time to check for recalls. When you're doing your spring cleaning, don't forget to get all your open recalls fixed as quickly as possible.

Ford recalls 33K Bronco Sport, Escape SUVs for potential fuel leaks

This story was originally published on Automotive Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Automotive Dive newsletter. Ford Motor Co. recalled 33,576 Bronco Sport and Escape models for fuel injectors that may crack and leak fuel onto hot engine components and increase the risk of fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall covers 2021-2023 Bronco Sport and 2020-2022 Escape SUVs equipped with 1.5 liter turbocharged, three-cylinder EcoBoost engines. Some of these models were included in two prior recalls in November 2022 and March 2024. To address the recall, dealers will update the vehicles' powertrain control module software to the latest version, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning April 24. The March 2024 recall included roughly 42,650 2022-2023 Bronco Sport and 2022 Escape models. Dealers performed an engine control software update that added fuel injector leak detection capabilities. A drain tube was also installed to channel raw fuel away from underhood components. The revised PCM software is meant to detect a pressure drop in the high-pressure fuel rail and warn drivers of a potential problem via the instrument cluster. The software is also designed to disable the vehicle's fuel pump and lower engine power output to further reduce fire risk. However, Ford acknowledged that some of the Bronco Sport and Escape models included in last year's recall may have had the incorrect software version installed, according to the NHTSA. Ford said the errors may have been recorded in its internal system as the correct software updates. The automaker cited an issue with its dealer service equipment for the software update error. Dealers performed the PCM software update using a factory-authorized service tool, but the equipment failed to update all vehicles to the correct version as intended, according to the NHTSA. Ford is now determining which software versions have been installed during production and by its dealers for last year's recall. To ensure that the recall is properly addressed, the software update will be validated by service technicians before the field service action is closed. In addition to the increased risk of fire, drivers of these vehicles may experience a fuel odor around the vehicle, or notice smoke or flames originating from the engine compartment, which highlights the elevated safety risk that spurred a third recall. Ford is aware of four underhood fires in Bronco Sport and Escape models, but has been unable to confirm if they were due to a leaking fuel injector, according to the NHTSA. The automaker is not aware of any accident or injuries related to the recall. Ford's Critical Concern Group was notified of the problem Nov. 26, 2024, which was identified after an audit was requested for software previously installed in Ford vehicles. However, an initial review of field service actions found insufficient data to confirm that the vehicles' received the correct update and the invesgitation was expanded. The automaker informed the NHTSA of its findings on Dec. 19, 2024. In February, Ford performed an audit of software installed in each vehicle to identify the exact number requiring the update. As a result of the audit, Ford's Field Review Committee approved the recall on March 7. Ford implemented a fuel injector production change in late 2022 to eliminate stresses that could lead to cracking, according to the NHTSA. The automaker also extended the warranty on the injectors for 15 years or 150,000 miles and will replace any defective parts in this timeframe free of charge. For the models recalled in March 2024 recall, the original fuel injector design and PCM software was taken out of production on Jan. 13, 2023. Model year 2022 Escape SUVs were taken out of production a month earlier in December. Recommended Reading NHTSA fines Ford $165M for slow response to safety recall Sign in to access your portfolio
