'Mortal Kombat 2' trailer previews Karl Urban's Johnny Cage, reveals new characters: 'It's showtime!'
Let the tournament begin! Mortal Kombat 2's first trailer arrived Thursday with a blood-soaked look at the upcoming sequel, in theaters and IMAX Oct. 24. In addition to franchise newcomer Karl Urban (The Boys) as Johnny Cage, the footage shows us first looks at characters like Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and CJ Bloom as Baraka, and (as previously revealed by Entertainment Weekly) Adeline Rudolph as Kitana. The previous movie, released in 2021, showed how the Outworld sorcerer Shang Tsung (Chin Han) and his forces attempted to wipe out Earth's champions before the big Mortal Kombat tournament between fighters from different realms. The ending revealed new recruit Cole Young (Lewis Tan), a former MMA fighter and a descendant of Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion (Shōgun Emmy winner Hiroyuki Sanada), setting off to Hollywood to add another champion to their ranks, Mr. Cage, the star of such movies (within the movie) as Cool Hand Cage, Hard to Cage, and Rebel Without a Cage. Warner Bros. has since created a fake trailer for Johnny's Uncaged Fury film as promo for Mortal Kombat 2. "His integration into the Mortal Kombat story and universe is a big part of what this movie explores," Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat co-creator and head of gaming developer NetherRealm Studios, previously told Entertainment Weekly. "He's a washed-up Hollywood guy thrown into this magical, ultra-violent thing. Karl, his depiction of Johnny Cage is different than our games in some ways. He's adding his own flare to it, but I think it'll feel fresh. There's like a novelty factor in there." The sequel, directed by Simon McQuoid, will now see Earth's champions participating in the Mortal Kombat. If they lose, Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford), the overlord of Outworld, would invade. "They keep score throughout the movie," Boon said of the tournament. "There's a visual representation of who is winning.... It's not just a tournament for the sake of a tournament. There are huge consequences, so you really are keeping score. And there are a lot of twists in it that keep you on your toes." Returning from the first Mortal Kombat alongside Han, Tan, and Sanada are Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han/Sub-Zero, Max Huang as Kung Lao (even though he died during the last movie), and Josh Lawson as Kano (another supposedly dead character). "We've killed a number of characters who are in Mortal Kombat 1 and our latest games. So we deal with spirits and the NetherRealm and things like that," Boon teased. "There are ways to bring dead characters back."Watch the trailer above. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Awesome Red-Band Trailer For MORTAL KOMBAT II Brings Johnny Cage To The Tournament — GeekTyrant
Warner Bros. has dropped the first trailer for Mortal Kombat II , and this time, all eyes are on Karl Urban's Johnny Cage. The fan-favorite movie star turned tournament fighter takes center stage, and the footage teases a sequel that's going bigger, bloodier, and far more brutal than before. This movie looks awesome! The 2021 adaptation introduced an original character, Cole Young, but the sequel looks ready to embrace the heart of the franchise with the tournament itself. 'They keep score throughout the movie,' said Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. 'There's a visual representation of who is winning… It's not just a tournament for the sake of a tournament. There are huge consequences, so you really are keeping score. And there are a lot of twists in it that keep you on your toes.' Returning from the first film are Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, and Tadanobu Asano as Raiden. Surprisingly, Kano (Josh Lawson) and Kung Lao (Max Huang) are also back, despite their deaths in the previous movie. I guess they pumped more quarters into the machine to keep going. The sequel is expected to explore the concept of revenants, undead versions of fallen fighters, which should help explain these mysterious comebacks. New characters making their debut include Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, and of course, Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban. Unlike the first film, which centered on Cole Young, this entry appears to lean heavily into Cage's personality and story arc. His cocky charm and action hero swagger could bring a completely different energy to the sequel, and fans will be eager to see how it plays out. Mortal Kombat II is set to hit theaters on October 24, promising a fun action-packed film, familiar faces, new warriors, and the bone-crushing fatalities the franchise is known for. Based on this first look, the sequel might just deliver a flawless victory, and I didn't like the first movie at all!

Karl Urban's Johnny Cage Gets a Retro Action Hero Makeover in MORTAL KOMBAT 2 Poster For Fake Film UNCAGED FURY — GeekTyrant
Karl Urban is ready to bring Johnny Cage's Hollywood swagger to life in Mortal Kombat II , and the marketing team just dropped a brilliant tease that fans can't stop talking about. Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat , took to X to share a poster for a fictional in-universe movie called Uncaged Fury , and it's peak Johnny Cage energy. The poster looks like it was ripped straight from a dusty 90s video store shelf, complete with Mortal Kombat 3 -inspired fonts and gritty VHS-era aesthetics. Urban's Cage is front and center, serving up sunglasses-and-leather-jacket bravado that screams 'action superstar.' It kinda has the same vibe as the original poster for Mission: Impossible . Boon even tagged longtime MK producer Todd Garner, jokingly pointing out the 'old DVD' featuring a teaser trailer for Uncaged Fury. Then in true meta fashion, the team created a fake IMDb page for Uncaged Fury , adding another layer to the gag and giving us a taste of Johnny Cage's fictional filmography. It's a small detail, but it's the kind of thing that makes this marketing stunt feel alive inside the Mortal Kombat universe. With Mortal Kombat II set to hit theaters on October 24, 2025, fans are desperate for any glimpse of what's next. and this campaign delivers some fun nostalgia, humor, and hype in one punch. Plus, Boon's mention of an 'old DVD with the teaser trailer' has fans speculating that a full trailer for the real movie might be coming soon.
