Killed off in X-Men franchise, the Superman actor is now soaring in the DC universe

Marvel Studios definitely have their backs up after the positive reactions received by James Gunn's latest film, Superman. The film's box office collection is also growing exponentially by the day. One of the key takeaways from the film was the introduction of the Justice Gang, and out of the three superheroes, Mister Terrific has left a mark. Played by Edi Gathegi, the character added serious firepower to the film, and it is quite interesting to know that DC's latest winning stead was once in a competing stable and was part of the X-Men. Everyone is wondering, did Marvel lose out on a winner? Back in 2011, the X-Men franchise was owned by 20th Century Studios, and they came out with the film X-Men: First Class, which followed the journey of a young Charles Xavier and Magneto trying to create a mutant super team in order to deal with the repercussions of coming out to the world about their abilities. One of the young recruits was a mutant named Darwin (played by Edi), and anyone who is familiar with the comics knows about the incredible shape-shifting capabilities he possessed. What came as a surprise was that he was killed in the movie by Sebastian Shaw, and fans never got the chance to see the character develop. Interestingly, he had very similar powers to Metamorpho, who appears in Gunn's Superman, but obviously did not have a happy ending. He said, 'So I read the script, and I called my agents to say, 'Hey, listen, I have a problem with the fact that this character is the only Black character in the film aside from Zoë Kravitz's character. I am also the only mutant who meets an untimely demise halfway through the film.' It was 2009 at the time, and I was like, 'Killing the Black guy first is so played out. I can't do this.'' Edi added that he was told that the character's untimely death was part of a larger plan and he would return in the later films in the franchise, but nothing of the sort ever happened, which the actor expressed came as a 'surprise' to him. Now all these years later, Edi has made peace with the studios' decision and is currently bearing the fruits of his incredible portrayal of Mr Terrific. Fighting alongside Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) as the Justice Gang, Edi stole the show with his sarcastic quips, entertaining fight sequences and an air of domination. He added, 'With X-Men, the message that I received as an actor and as a man of colour in this world is you can be the most powerful mutant in the world, and they'll never let you reach your full potential. Whereas with Mister Terrific in Superman, the message that I'm receiving is you can be one of the most intelligent characters in the universe, and you can make a difference. You can help save the world. It's a different level of conversation.'

Australian captain Pat Cummins and wife Becky welcome baby girl Edi

Australia captain Pat Cummins and his wife Becky have welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Edi. "She's here,' Becky Cummins shared on Instagram alongside a photo of their newborn daughter in her arms. "Our beautiful baby girl, Edi… Words can't describe how overjoyed and full of love we feel right now.' The couple also shared the picture of Edi's first trip to the beach on their social media accounts. Cummins, who is currently on paternity leave during Australia's Test tour of Sri Lanka, had previously expressed his desire to achieve a better balance between family life and professional cricket. In October, he said, "I missed a big chunk of son Albie's early days last time, and I want to figure out how I can spend more time at home during that initial period this time around." He also emphasised the importance of prioritising family, stating, "No one will bat an eyelid if someone needs to put their family first. We're playing cricket, it's not the end of the world. We want players to have long, successful careers for Australia, and they can't just put their life on hold to tour the world and forget everything else. We're pretty open when it comes to family." This shift in priorities seems to reflect a broader trend in cricket. Recently, Travis Head and Mitch Marsh took paternity leave during the Pakistan series, and Indian cricket star Virat Kohli returned home during a 2020 Test series against Australia to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. The Cummins family first announced their pregnancy with son Albie in 2021, and Becky has shared updates as her second pregnancy progressed. Cummins, however, will miss the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan due to an ongoing injury.

Listen to article Australia's Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins and his wife Becky have welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Edith Maria Boston Cummins, the couple announced on social media. Becky took to Instagram to share the news with her followers, posting a photo of their newborn daughter. 'She's here. Our beautiful baby girl, Edi. Words can't describe how overjoyed & full of love we feel right now,' Becky wrote in the caption. Cummins also shared a picture on his Instagram story, showing him holding baby Edi while walking on a beach. 'Edi's first trip to the beach,' he wrote. The birth of Cummins' daughter coincided with his absence from Australia's ongoing tour of Sri Lanka, as he had taken paternity leave. However, the Australia captain has also been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to an ankle injury sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Cummins bowled 167 overs in the Test series, taking 25 wickets, but has since struggled with the injury. His absence is a major blow to Australia, as fellow pacer Josh Hazlewood and all-rounder Mitch Marsh have also been sidelined due to injuries. Hazlewood has been battling a hip issue, while Marsh withdrew from the tournament due to a worsening back injury. Additionally, fast bowling all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has announced his shock retirement from the ODI format, further depleting Australia's squad for the Champions Trophy, which begins on 19 February in Pakistan. With Cummins, Hazlewood, and Marsh unavailable, Mitchell Starc remains Australia's only frontline pacer in the preliminary squad. Selectors are expected to finalise the squad after the conclusion of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. Pat Cummins' beautiful family announcement after sad admission over absence

Pat Cummins and his wife Becky have welcomed the birth of their second child Edi into the world after it was confirmed he won't be taking part in Australia's upcoming ODI campaign. Steve Smith has acted as the stand-in captain during Australia's Test tour of Sri Lanka with Cummins opting to stay behind for the birth of his daughter. Cummins captained Australia to a 3-1 series victory over India in the summer and opted to take time off after the busy schedule to be with his wife Becky. And in fantastic news for the family, Becky gave birth to their second child, Edi, with the couple posting photos together on Saturday. Becky posted a photo of their daughter with the caption: "She's here. Our beautiful baby girl, Edi. Words can't describe how overjoyed and full of love we feel right now." The duo also posted a photo with Edi and Albie at Bondi Beach. Cummins has already announced he won't be heading to the Champions Trophy tournament with Australia due to an injury, but he also recently admitted he wanted to be around for the first few weeks of Edi's life. This was because he quickly travelled to the World Cup after Albie was born. & It's a girl 👶Welcome to the cricket world, Edi. Congratulations to Pat Cummins & Becky Cummins. — CricTracker (@Cricketracker) February 8, 2025 Before the birth of Edi, Cummins revealed he was going to change his travel arrangements to accomodate more family time in his plans. One of the hardest jobs of the Australian captain, who still plays all three formats for Australia, is the rigorous international schedule. However, Cummins had already claimed he wouldn't be touring Sri Lanka to be with his wife and son. "I missed a big chunk [of son Albie's early days] last time and I want to work out how we can spend a bit more time at home for that initial period this time," he said. "It's pretty hard to plan exactly the day, but definitely (I might miss the Sri Lanka tour)." In a blow for Australia, Cummins and fellow quick Josh Hazlewood will both miss the Champions Trophy ODI tournament due to injury. Cummins injured his ankle during the back end of the Test series against India. While he has been recovering from the injury, it appears he will remain with his family. Hazlewood didn't travel to Sri Lanka either and has been battling a side injury that sidelined him during the Border-Gavaskar series against India. Cricket Australia (CA) said Cummins and Hazlewood were beginning an "extended period of rehabilitation" but there is no suggestion they will miss Australia's next Test match - the World Test Championship final against South Africa in June. Marcus Stoinis also shocked fans and announced his retirement from ODI cricket, despite being selected in the squad. This leaves Australia seeking three new players for the tournament.
