Uttarakhand govt passes Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill
Taking a tough stand on illegal conversion, the Uttarakhand State Cabinet has approved the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday, under which strong provisions have been added for stringent penalties on illegal conversion, a ban on propaganda through digital media and protection of victims. The bill was passed during a meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The Bill includes punishment for marriage under false identity and incitement for conversion through social media, messaging apps or any online medium, among others. The bill has broadened the definition of inducement, which includes gifts, cash/goods benefits, employment, free education, promise of marriage, hurting religious sentiments or glorifying another religion, all of which are included in the category of crime. The bill has placed a ban on the use of digital means to spread propaganda or incitement for conversion through social media, messaging apps, or any online medium, which is punishable. Under the bill, strict punishment, up to 3 to 10 years for general violation, 5 to 14 years in cases related to sensitive sections, 20 years to life imprisonment in serious cases and a heavy fine are made. The bill has made provision for protection, rehabilitation, medical, travel and maintenance expenses of the victims. The state government said that this law will protect the religious rights of citizens, prevent conversion by fraud, inducement or pressure and maintain social harmony. Earlier, on Wednesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of Yoga Park and other development works in Kedarpuram under Dehradun Municipal Corporation. On this occasion, he launched the AI chatbot 'Nigam Sarathi' and also unveiled the document of Green Policy. The Chief Minister planted a Rudraksha sapling under the name of Ek Ped Maa Naam, which was the one lakhth sapling planted this year under the Municipal Corporation area of Dehradun under the massive plantation campaign run by the government. In the programme, the Chief Minister also honoured the Swachhata Samman Senani and Tax Inspectors. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also administered a collective oath for de-addiction.

Environment Day: Kangana Ranaut congratulates PM Modi for connecting everyone with 'ek ped maa ke naam' campaign
New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): On the occasion of world environment day, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kangana Ranaut congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for emotionally connecting everyone to saving the environment with the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign as she planted a sapling at her Delhi residence on Thursday. 'Our earth and our environment are our biggest legacy. We have to pass them on to our future generations, just like we received them. As part of that, we are participating in the World Environment Day celebrations. I would like to congratulate PM Narendra Modi for emotionally connecting everyone with this save environment campaign with the 'ek ped maa ke naam' campaign,' the BJP MP told reporters here. Posting about the sapling planting on X, Ranaut paid a tribute to people working on the grassroots level to save and conserve the environment. 'Today, on World Environment Day, we strengthened the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative by honourable Narendra Modi ji with a special tree plantation drive. I planted a sapling at my Delhi house. Also on this environment day, we pay heartfelt gratitude to all those who have dedicated their lives to saving the soil and the rivers, cleaning the planet, especially oceans from plastic waste,' Ranaut's post read. Meanwhile, BJP MP Anurag Thakur also participated in the campaign by planting a sapling in Delhi. Posting a picture of him planting a sapling, he urged others to participate in the environmental conservation campaign started by PM Modi. 'Trees are the basis of life on earth, and to promote tree plantation, the campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Naam' started by the respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji to honour the mother power and protect and promote nature has emerged as a mass movement,' his post read. 'I request all of you to actively participate in this environmental conservation campaign started by Modi Ji in the interest of the earth and plant trees,' he added. Ek Ped Maa ke naam, an initiative which combines environmental conservation and a tribute to mothers, was launched by PM Modi on June 5, 2024, exactly one year ago. (ANI)
