Elaine Crowley defends Ireland AM ratings as she opens up ignoring nasty trolls
TV star Elaine Crowley has said Ireland AM ratings are "flying" despite TV viewership reporting a downward trend. Elaine has been part of the Ireland AM team since 2021. And the Cork native said ratings for the breakfast show are 'flying'. She said: 'I'm working away on Ireland AM. I have to say that it's, I know they say TV is having a bit of a moment downwards, but at the moment, figures for Ireland AM are flying. 'They are as steady as when I joined 25 years ago, we're getting the same figures now, if not more, which is amazing. I mean there's so much other competition now, but I think when it comes to live television, anyway, we have a very loyal audience. 'I hate getting up early though. I'm not going to lie. It's not a bad thing when you think about who I get to meet and everything else.' And she praises the viewers for being nice on the show, saying she doesn't see nasty comments from online trolls anymore. 'By and large, Irish people are nice. I think if you look at any of the trolls out there, they're trolling everybody. It's not just me or Maura (Derrane) or whoever else it is. It's the same names all the time. 'So I don't see it anymore, and they're clearly the same people over and over and over again. So and you know what, some very good advice I once got was never take criticism off somebody you wouldn't take advice from. 'And if you go into any of these people who are nasty online. Look at their profile pictures. They're always looking to live, laugh, low and be kind, and they're almost throwing out the nasty comments… as my mother said, 'leave them to god, girly'.'
