Al-Maliki: Iraq Will Not Be an Arena for Settling Scores
Baghdad-INA The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, confirmed today, Sunday, that Iraq will not be an arena for settling scores. The media office of the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, received today in his office the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev." He added that "the two sides exchanged views and perspectives on Russia's relations with Iraq and the mutual visits between officials of the two friendly countries." He noted that "regional and international developments in the region, particularly in Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon, and the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, were reviewed, in addition to the ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America." According to the statement, the head of the State of Law Coalition pointed to "the importance of expanding the prospects of joint cooperation between Iraq and the Russian Federation in a manner that serves the interests of the two friendly peoples," explaining that "the Middle East is facing serious challenges that require work and cooperation to preserve security and stability and protect it from dangers." He stressed that "Iraq will not be an arena for settling scores." For his part, the Russian ambassador praised Iraq's efforts to "consolidate the foundations of peace in the region," stressing "Moscow's commitment to maintaining bilateral cooperation in the service of the security, stability, and prosperity of both countries."

Iraq, Gazprom ink deal to boost Badra oil and gas output
Shafaq News/ Iraq's Midland Oil Company (MdOC) signed the first amendment to the Badra oil field service contract on Thursday with Russia's Gazprom and its consortium partners, to increase oil and gas production from the field. The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Oil Minister for Extraction Affairs Bassem Mohammed Khudair, Russian Ambassador to Baghdad Elbrus Kutrashev, and several senior officials from Iraq's oil sector. Khudair emphasized the Oil Ministry's commitment to sustaining production operations across national oilfields and supporting the work of international companies operating in Iraq. MdOC Director General Mohammed Yassin said the amendment is intended to raise production rates during the remaining term of the contract, thereby maximizing state revenues.

Russia's Ambassador to Iraq: Syria has no objection to our bases
Shafaq News/ On Thursday, Russia's Ambassador to Baghdad, Elbrus Kutrashev, confirmed that Syrian authorities did not oppose the presence of Russian military bases in Syria. Kotrashchev told Shafaq News Agency that "there are understandings between the Russian government and the Syrian government to establish and strengthen relations between the two countries." He added that Moscow and Damascus are in the process of further developing their bilateral ties, and 'so far, there has been no official objection from the Syrian authorities regarding the presence of Russian bases on their territory." Notably, Russia operates several military bases in Syria, including the Hmeimim base, which houses both aircraft and ground forces. This base has been a significant point of support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and provided shelter to displaced Syrians during the coastal hostilities in March.

Russian Ambassador: Moscow boosts Iraq's energy investments
Shafaq News/ Russian oil and gas investments in Iraq have risen to $20 billion, up from $19 billion, marking what Ambassador Elbrus Kutrashev on Wednesday described as a sign of strengthening economic and energy ties between the two countries. In an interview with Shafaq News Agency, Kutrashev clarified that three Russian companies are currently operating in Iraq's oil sector, while a fourth is preparing to enter the gas market. A report from the Primakov Center for Foreign Political Cooperation in Moscow highlighted growing ties between Iraq and Russia, particularly in energy and logistics. Both countries are working to align Iraq's 'Development Road' initiative with Russia's 'North-South Corridor' to enhance trade between Asia and Europe, despite ongoing political and security challenges in Iraq. In earlier remarks, Kutrashev praised Iraq's fight against international terrorism, calling it a victory over a threat 'no less evil than fascism and Nazism.'
