SKIT resumes operations, seeks admission in 2nd phase of EAMCET counselling
Srikalahasteeswara Institute Of Technology (SKIT) has been merged with JNTU-Anantapur, and the college has been listed for admissions in the second phase of EAMCET counselling, according to an official order issued here on Monday. Established in 1997 by Bojjala Gopala Krishna Reddy as a visionary initiative, SKIT played a vital role in providing affordable engineering education to underprivileged students. However, due to alleged negligence by the previous YSRCP government, admissions to the college were halted during the academic year 2020–21. Now, under the guidance of Minister for Education Nara Lokesh, Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Sudheer Reddy fulfilled his election promise and revived the institution, a press release said. Starting this academic year, junior engineering courses in Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering will be offered. This marks a new chapter in the journey of SKIT which aims at empowering the local youth with quality education, the release added.

ECE rises to second spot in TN engineering counselling amid tech job slump
CHENNAI: Amid slowdown in software jobs and layoffs by tech majors, core engineering courses such as Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Civil and Mechanical Engineering seem to be back in the reckoning in Tamil Nadu piggybacking on the boom in the semiconductor industry. ECE has become the second-most-sought-after course this year in TN engineering counselling, surpassing Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI&DS), and Information Technology (IT). Last year, after the first round, only 3% of seats in civil and mechanical courses were filled, but this year the admission figures for the streams have doubled to 6%, an analyst said. The final allotment list after the first round of the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) counselling released on Saturday revealed that out of the 39,145 students who took part in the counselling, 26,719 were allotted seats. As per the data, out of the total 36,748 seats available in Computer Science streams across the state, 7,526 seats have been taken, while ECE is placed second with 4,534 of the available 25,864 seats being taken in the first round. In the AI&DS stream, of the total 22,767 seats, 3,208 have been filled. At the end of round one, 15.42% of seats have been filled, almost 5% higher than last year. This year, a total of 1.72 lakh seats were available for general counselling in 425 colleges. Notably, last year, following CSE, AI&DS had taken the second spot in the first round. In 2024, at the end of round one, 15.27% of CSE seats were filled, followed by AI&DS (13%) and IT (12.21%). ECE got the fourth spot with only 10.1% seats being filled in the first round last year.

Computer Science, ECE preferred choice during round 1 of engineering college admission counselling in Tamil Nadu
Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) seem to be the streams of choice for candidates this year, as 35,125 candidates were given tentative allotment of seats after the first round of counselling for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) for the academic year 2025-26. Early trends indicated an uptick in demand for the ECE stream when compared to last year. According to R. Ashwin, an education counsellor who has been following the engineering admissions closely, ECE has overtaken IT and AI courses as a preferred choice for candidates this year, as indicated by the first round trends. In the top 10 colleges in the State, almost all seats in core engineering streams – Computer Science and Engineering, ECE, Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering – have been filled after the first round itself, Mr. Ashwin said. What is interesting is that circuit-related courses like Computer Science and ECE were on demand even in colleges lower down the ranking list. Also, Chennai and Coimbatore remained the destinations of choice for candidates, as top colleges in these cities witnessed a spurt in preference during the first round. While the top constituent colleges in Anna University such as College of Engineering Guindy (CEG) and Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) remained top on the preference list of candidates, the various university colleges of engineering of Anna University found themselves lower down the pecking order. TNEA officials said 32,663 candidates under the general category and 2,462 candidates from the government schools (7.5% reservation) category were given tentative allotments. They will release provisional allotment order for those candidates who have confirmed their tentative allotment by Friday evening. Candidates who did not get their seat of choice and have opted for the upward option while accepting the allotment would have to wait for the residual seats after the first round of admissions get over on July 23. In the vocational stream, 1,416 candidates were given tentative allotments, including 214 from the government schools (7.5% reservation) category.

Engineering courses for B.Tech aspirants
As industries embrace automation, data, and sustainability, engineering is evolving beyond its traditional boundaries. For aspirants, selecting a forward-thinking course is more important than ever. Fields like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Renewable Energy Engineering are creating new career avenues, while branches like Mechanical and ECE continue to offer relevance through innovation. The key is to find a balance between emerging tech and core fundamentals—setting the stage for a resilient, future-ready engineering career As the world continues to evolve with rapid technological advancements, the demand for engineers who are not only technically sound but also future-ready has never been higher. For students planning to pursue a degree, choosing the right engineering course is a crucial decision that can shape their career path and open doors to global opportunities. While traditional branches like Mechanical and Civil Engineering remain important, several emerging and interdisciplinary fields are gaining prominence due to their relevance in solving modern-day challenges. Here are some of the best engineering courses to consider for applicants: 1. Computer Science Engineering (CSE) Still one of the most sought-after streams, Computer Science Engineering is at the heart of the digital revolution. It covers programming, software development, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data science. With technology integrated into every industry—from finance to healthcare—CSE graduates are in high demand globally. 2. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI & ML) A specialized offshoot of computer science, AI & ML focuses on developing intelligent systems that can learn from data and make decisions. This field has applications in autonomous vehicles, healthcare, robotics, finance, and even education. A in AI & ML equips students with skills that are essential for the future of tech-driven industries. 3. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) As the world becomes more connected, ECE continues to be a crucial discipline. It includes topics such as embedded systems, wireless communication, IoT (Internet of Things), and VLSI design. ECE graduates are essential in sectors like telecommunications, consumer electronics, and automation. 4. Biotechnology/Biomedical Engineering For those interested in life sciences and healthcare, biotechnology and biomedical engineering offer exciting career paths. These courses combine biology with technology to develop medical devices, prosthetics, diagnostic tools, and biopharmaceuticals—making a direct impact on human health. 5. Data Science and Engineering Data is the new oil. This emerging course teaches students how to extract, analyze, and interpret data to drive business decisions. With industries relying heavily on data for strategy and innovation, a degree in data science ensures a strong foundation for a career in analytics, AI, and research. 6. Renewable Energy Engineering With global emphasis on sustainability, Renewable Energy Engineering is gaining attention. This course prepares students to design and develop systems that harness solar, wind, and other clean energy sources. It's an ideal choice for those looking to combine engineering skills with environmental impact. 7. Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Though traditional, Mechanical Engineering remains relevant due to its versatility. Mechatronics, a fusion of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering, is especially important in robotics and automation. These courses offer strong career prospects in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, and more. For aspirants, selecting a course aligned with both industry trends and personal interests is key. Emerging areas like AI, Data Science, and Renewable Energy offer great scope, but even core disciplines remain valuable with the right skills. The future of engineering is interdisciplinary—so choose a path that blends innovation, adaptability, and purpose.
