Couple killed in Kota Belud fire

KOTA BELUD: A married couple was found burnt to death in a house fire at Kampung Sangkir, here, early Thursday. The victims were discovered in the bathroom of the single-storey house, which was completely destroyed. Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Assistant Fire Supt Elge Bakuk, said they received a distress call at 2.52am. 'A team of 10 firefighters, along with one fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, was dispatched to the scene. 'Upon arrival, the house was already engulfed in flames. A sedan car, believed to be a Proton Saga, was also destroyed in the fire,' he said. After the fire was brought under control at 3.22am, firefighters discovered the charred remains of the husband and wife in the bathroom. Elge said the operation used one water line with two hoses, drawing water from the fire engine. 'The bodies were handed over to the police for further action, including a post-mortem at the Kota Belud Hospital Forensic Unit,' he added. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The operation ended at 4.55am after ensuring the area was safe and free of other hazards. Early morning blaze claims two lives in KB

Firefighters discovered the two victims in the bathroom of the single-storey house, which was completely destroyed along with a Proton Saga parked nearby. District Fire and Rescue Station chief Elge Bakuk said his team received the emergency call at 2.52am and arrived shortly after with 10 personnel and two vehicles. The fire was brought under control by 3.22am, and the bodies were handed over to police for post-mortem at the Kota Belud Hospital. Emotionally distressed man found safe after two days missing

The 26-year-old was located by a rescue team and villagers at 10:13am today, about 2.5 kilometers from the Incident Control Post (PKTK). Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Assistant Fire Officer Elge Bakuk, said 12 personnel, including a drone unit member, were involved in the search and rescue (SAR) operation. "The second day of the SAR operation successfully found the victim in safe condition with no serious injuries," he said. The victim was handed over to the police and later taken to Kota Belud Hospital for further treatment. Elge added that the Kota Belud Fire and Rescue received the emergency call from the District Police Headquarters at 8:45 p.m. on Monday regarding the missing person. "According to initial reports, the victim left his home at around 6 a.m. and was believed to be lost in a plantation area.
