Sean Combs' lawyers offer US$50m bail to move him to house arrest
Published on: Wednesday, July 30, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 30, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: Filepic by Reuters WASHINGTON: Lawyers for rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs ( pic ) filed a motion seeking his release from jail ahead of his sentencing in October, offering a US$50 million bail package that would place him under house arrest in Miami, reported German Press Agency (dpa). The attorneys argued that Combs poses neither a flight risk nor a danger to the public. Under the proposal, submitted on Tuesday, the 55-year-old would remain confined to his Miami residence and leave only for court appearances. Previous release requests have been denied by the presiding judge. Combs was arrested in New York in September 2024 on multiple sexual offence charges. In a high-profile trial earlier this month, a jury found him partially guilty, convicting him only on charges related to prostitution - the least severe among the five counts he faced. He now faces up to 20 years in prison. A full conviction could have led to a life sentence. Sentencing is scheduled for October 3. Combs remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in New York. Prosecutors accused Combs of abusing, coercing, and threatening multiple women over several years to fulfil his sexual demands. During the trial, which drew international attention, several witnesses testified about enduring years of sexual and physical abuse. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Teen pleads guilty to punching teacher
Published on: Wednesday, July 30, 2025 Published on: Wed, Jul 30, 2025 By: FMT Reporters Text Size: The 14-year-old boy pleaded guilty to injuring his teacher, in an incident that went viral on social media. PETALING JAYA: A 14-year-old boy pleaded guilty in the Kajang magistrates' court today to injuring a male teacher, in an incident that went viral on social media. The teenager entered the plea before magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil, Harian Metro reported. According to the charge, the Form One transition class student voluntarily caused hurt to the 29-year-old teacher at 4.48pm on Monday. Deputy public prosecutor Syafiq Zulbahrin led the prosecution, while the boy was represented by lawyer S Priyalatha. The report said media personnel were not allowed into the courtroom as the accused is a juvenile. The boy's parents were seen attending the proceedings. His mother, who is in her 40s, told reporters he was her only child and that he lived with her following her separation from his father. She also said her son regretted punching the teacher and had apologised to him. Earlier, the prosecution had proposed bail at RM5,000 with one surety, citing the seriousness of the case and the public attention it had received. The defence requested a lower amount, noting that the boy was a school-going juvenile offender. The court set bail at RM1,000 with one surety and fixed Sept 11 for the social welfare department to submit a probation report before sentencing. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Johor immigration denies link to bogus donation appeal
JOHOR BARU: The Johor Immigration Department has denied involvement in a fraudulent donation drive letter falsely using its name, and has urged the public to remain alert to scams exploiting its official identity. The forged letter, which includes fake payment receipts, claims to solicit donations from the public and business community for a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme involving 500 orphans. In a statement today, Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the department did not issue any fundraising appeal or donation drive, nor were any official receipts circulated. Members of the public have been warned against responding to suspicious messages, including those sent via SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat or phone calls referencing the scam. Rusdi urged anyone who may have made payments in relation to the fake campaign to lodge a police report immediately for further investigation. "The misuse of our official name and emblem is a serious offence. Action will be taken against any party found guilty of misleading the public," he said. Rusdi also reminded the public not to be easily deceived by unsolicited requests, especially those exploiting the name of government agencies under the guise of charity.
