Fire leaves Kota Belud family of eight with nothing

KOTA BELUD: Eight members of a family were left with nothing after the house they were living in was destroyed in a fire at Kampung Rampayan Laut, here, on Friday. However, despite the fire, which was reported to have started at 1.25am, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Advertisement District Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief of Kota Belud, Assistant Fire Superintendent Elgie Bakuk, said the fire department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 1.28am. He said seven personnel, including an officer, rushed to the scene with one fire engine and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) utility vehicle. 'Upon arrival, the team found that a non-permanent structure was completely destroyed by the fire,' he said. 'The fire spread quickly, but all eight occupants — including two children — escaped without injuries. 'However, personal belongings and important documents could not be saved in time,' he said. According to Elgie, the fire was brought under control by 2.15am, preventing it from spreading to nearby houses. 'A Perodua Viva car owned by the occupants was also completely destroyed in the fire. KOTA BELUD: Sixteen residents lost their home when a fire destroyed a two-storey house in Kampung Labuan here at 3pm on Wednesday. There were no injuries or fatalities reported. Advertisement Kota Belud District Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent Elgie Bakuk, said the department received an emergency call at 3.06pm and seven personnel were dispatched to the scene with one fire engine and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) utility vehicle. He said upon arrival the firefighters found a semi-permanent house 70 per cent razed. 'The flames spread rapidly, but all 16 residents, including two young children escaped unharmed. But property and some important documents belonging to the residents could not be saved, he said. Elgie the firemen prevented the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
