Fire leaves Kota Belud family of eight with nothing

KOTA BELUD: Eight members of a family were left with nothing after the house they were living in was destroyed in a fire at Kampung Rampayan Laut, here, on Friday. However, despite the fire, which was reported to have started at 1.25am, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Advertisement District Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief of Kota Belud, Assistant Fire Superintendent Elgie Bakuk, said the fire department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 1.28am. He said seven personnel, including an officer, rushed to the scene with one fire engine and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) utility vehicle. 'Upon arrival, the team found that a non-permanent structure was completely destroyed by the fire,' he said. 'The fire spread quickly, but all eight occupants — including two children — escaped without injuries. 'However, personal belongings and important documents could not be saved in time,' he said. According to Elgie, the fire was brought under control by 2.15am, preventing it from spreading to nearby houses. 'A Perodua Viva car owned by the occupants was also completely destroyed in the fire. Home Ministry allocates RM1 million to 12 Kota Belud villages

KOTA BELUD: The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has at least 12 Madani Adopted Villages which have been allocated RM1 million each to implement various projects. Its Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the allocation was given directly to local leaders and relevant agencies to implement physical and non-physical projects that have an impact on their respective villages. Advertisement '.....the impact of the RM1 million allocation is immediate, fast, with no bureaucracy, for example, the installation of 40 units of solar lights (for Madani Adopted Villages),' he told reporters after officiating the KDN Madani Adopted Village Programme launching ceremony at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Pangkalan Abai, here, Friday. Saifuddin Nasution said a Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department (Rela) and Neighbourhood Watch (KRT) control post was also established in Sk Pangkalan Abai Madani Adopted Village which was also assisted by villagers in security control. He said other facilities at SK Pangkalan Abai Madani Adopted Village which has about 800 residents, included the construction of a drainage system to overcome the problem of flooding along 150 metres. Apart from the installation of a 350-metre-long pipe and the purchase of a hearse, the Ministry of Home Affairs also allocated RM50,000 to the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of SK Pangkalan Abai.
