Georgia football makes major move for nation's No. 1 recruit

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to elite quarterback recruit Elijah Haven. Haven attended a camp at UGA and impressed the Georgia coaching staff. Haven, a rising junior, is a member of the class of 2027. Haven is the top-ranked recruit in the class of 2027, according to 247Sports. In the 247Sports Composite, he is ranked as a five-star recruit and the top quarterback in the country. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound quarterback plays high school football for the Dunham School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Haven plays football right in the LSU Tigers' backyard, so it may be tough to lure the talented quarterback away from the Tigers. Ryan Puglisi of the Georgia Bulldogs drops back to pass during the spring G Day game "After a great camp and conversation with Coach Bobo, I am proud to say I have been offered a scholarship by the University of Georgia!" Haven said via social media. Advertisement Another interesting factor for Georgia in the class of 2027 is that the Dawgs already have a commitment from five-star quarterback Jared Curtis. However, we'll wait until December to see if Georgia signs Curtis. Haven is a good athlete and also plays high school basketball. This year, he has received scholarship offers from Jackson State, Duke, Florida State and Houston. The talented passer was named as the 2024 MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year. As a sophomore, he completed over 60% of his passes and threw for 37 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Haven is mobile. He ran for 925 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns during this spectacular 2024 season as well. Haven helped Dunham School advance all the way to the state championship as a sophomore. Rivals250 Update: Position-by-position breakdown of 2027 ranking

Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney breaks down his thoughts position-by position as we release the new Rivals250 for the 2027 class. NEW 2027 RIVALS250: Ranking | Biggest decisions CLASS OF 2025 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2026 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State TRANSFER PORTAL: Full coverage | Player ranking | Team ranking | Transfer search | Transfer Tracker QUARTERBACK There is only one five-star quarterback so far in Baton Rouge (La.) Dunham's Elijah Haven, who is heavily leaning toward LSU with others involved, but over time we will move others to five-star status because the position is so valuable in the first round of the NFL Draft. Advertisement After Haven, though, there could still be a lot of movement. Considering college and draft trends where teams are looking for more mobile quarterbacks who can also throw there might be a ton of changes as well. Ohio State commit Brady Edmunds and Nebraska pledge Trae Taylor lead the way among four-stars and Taylor is the more mobile of the two but Edmunds has a ton of pocket talent. Colton Nussmeier, Garrett's brother, is a talented lefty. Gunner Rivers, Philip's son, is a really intriguing prospect for obvious reasons. Jayce Johnson, Kavian Bryant and Peyton Houston are three of the most interesting quarterbacks in the class because of what they can do with the ball in their hands. RUNNING BACK There is an abundance of talented running backs at the top but not one that has absolutely separated themselves from the pack. That means there could still be a good deal of movement as we see more of them to close out the offseason and into their junior years. Advertisement Brandon, Miss., standout Tyson Robinson leads the way but Chandler (Ariz.) Basha's Noah Roberts is incredibly smooth with the ball in his hands. The most interesting one to see in the coming months is Penn State commit Kemon Spell, who recently got offered by Ohio State, and could quickly shoot up the ranks. Dallas Rivals Camp position MVP Lathan Whisenton is a new four-star and moving up fast. The more coaches see of Gainesville, Ga., standout Nigel Newkirk the more offers he receives. WIDE RECEIVER There is a Midwest flavor to the top of the receiver rankings as Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne's Jamier Brown is a new five-star. Brown has all the athleticism, speed, separation and playmaking ability of any receiver in the class. Advertisement But Harper Woods, Mich., standout Dakota Guerrant is not far behind and is now the No. 2 receiver in the class with definite five-star potential. New Orleans (La.) Brother Martin's Easton Royal moves to the third spot, another shorter receiver who produces, gets open and has game-breaking ability. Julian Caldwell and Quentin Burrell are two that have moved up quickly after big offseasons and Las Vegas (Nev.) Arbor View's Damani Warren is someone who could still shoot up the rankings once he's on the field more regularly. Dontay Tyson, Osani Gayles and Quentin Hale are three others on the watch list to move up for various reasons. Other than a freakshow like Tetairoa McMillan, the draft has favored smaller - and quicker, more sudden - receivers higher in the draft. Our rankings will consider that as we look at the best receivers in the class. TIGHT END We have been spoiled by some high-level tight end classes in recent years and while the 2027 class is excellent as well, it doesn't have the depth of others - yet. Advertisement Ruston, La., recruit Ahmad Hudson and Libertyville, Ill., standout Brock Williams lead the way but Milton, Ga., prospect Grant Haviland is moving up quickly and while he's third at the position it might not be high enough. Like the 2026 recruiting class, there is an incredibly strong Midwest presence for tight ends who could move even higher as Cleveland (Ohio) Villa Angela St. Joseph's D'Angelo White, Detroit (Mich.) Country Day's Anthony Cartwright, Norwalk, Iowa's Luke Brewer, Dexter, Mich., recruit Holden Niemi and Pierre (S.D.) Riggs' Cooper Terwilliger could all make moves higher OFFENSIVE LINE There is a new No. 1 offensive tackle in Kingwood, Texas, standout Kennedy Brown followed by Qua Ford, Mark Matthews, Kaeden Scott and Jake Hildebrand, a solid top five but no five-stars yet. When it comes to draft trends and offensive tackles, it almost doesn't matter about height as much as wingspan and that will be a massive consideration moving forward as we look at the position. It's not the most loaded class ever but there are always some first-round offensive tackles so we'll have to look deep. Advertisement We're still trying to figure out the interior offensive line as well. Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei's Lex Mailangi is the new No. 1 inside as he almost never loses a rep. Gilmer, Texas standout Ismael Camara has moved up to the second spot after a great showing at the Rivals Camp Series in Dallas but there could still be a ton of movement here. DEFENSIVE LINE No. 1 overall LaDamion Guyton is the lone five-star defensive lineman but that is almost guaranteed to change because there are so many talented edge rushers and interior guys with tons of potential in the class. New Orleans (La.) Jesuit's Zyron Forstall has some of the best film in the 2027 class regardless of position. Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson's KJ Green along with Chris Whitehead, Justin Weeks, Alabama commit Jabarrius Garror and others. It's a loaded edge group. Advertisement At defensive end, Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trintiy's David Jacobs leads the way and we still like Recarder Kitchen from Muskegon, Mich., a whole lot but we just wish he would show up to a regional or national event so he can gauge himself against better competition. There is a lot to like at defensive tackle as the list is led by Jalen Brewster and Elijah Brown. After seeing Kasi Currie at a few events recently, the Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon standout has the potential to be a future star. LINEBACKER Cooper Witten, Jason's son, is the new No. 1 linebacker in the country and there is a lot of talent at the top end here but the difficulty is that this position has been significantly downgraded in the NFL Draft. That means it will become even more difficult to achieve five-star status and to earn that level of ranking, the player almost definitely has to come down and blitz a lot as well. Advertisement Texas commit Taven Epps and Chicago (Ill.) Mt. Carmel's Roman Igwebuike are two that moved up. DEFENSIVE BACK The cornerback spot is so loaded it might be the best group in the 2027 class. Gardena (Calif.) Serra's Duvay Williams is the lone five-star so far but that will almost definitely change with John Meredith, Joshua Dobson, Kenton Dopson, Aaryn Washington and others leading the way. Ace Alston is a mid-level four-star who could surge much higher as well. Safety is an interesting group but still unsettled. Jayquan Snell leads the way and he's a special-looking kid followed by Corey Hadley Jr., Kamarui Dorsey and Jerry Outhouse, Jr., who could move even higher after a great offseason. ATHLETE As the 2027 class settles out, more of these players will be moved to a specific position but many of these players are legitimate two-way threats as well. Long Beach (Calif.) Poly's Juju Johnson has tons of speed and Sequel Patterson has had a great offseason. DeSoto, Texas standout Myson Johnson-Cook still leads the way.

Rivals250 Release: Breaking down the 2027 class by position

The Rivals250 for the 2027 class has been released and Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney offers his thoughts position-by-position. 2027 RIVALS250 REFRESH: Five-star countdown | Updated Rivals250 revealed | Position-by-position breakdown | Biggest storylines 2026 RIVALS250 REFRESH: New schedule explained | Updated Rivals250 revealed | Biggest moves | Meet the new five-stars | Offensive position breakdown | Defensive position breakdown CLASS OF 2025 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2026 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: Top 100 TRANSFER PORTAL: Full coverage | Player ranking | Team ranking | Transfer search | Transfer Tracker There is only five-star quarterback in the class in Baton Rouge (La.) Dunham's Elijah Haven but there are plenty of worthy candidates and as we continue updating the 2027 rankings more will happen. Right now, Haven and Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian's Peyton Houston lead the way but Ohio State commit Brady Edmunds from Huntington Beach, Calif., definitely has a five-star argument, as does Trae Taylor from Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel Catholic. There will be others who emerge as well as Colton Nussmeier, Garrett's younger brother, and Gunner Rivers, Philip's son, are two others to watch as well through this offseason. This looks to be another class where there isn't a clear-cut No. 1 running back – yet – and so we've landed on Brandon, Miss., prospect Tyson Robinson and Chandler (Ariz.) Basha's Noah Roberts as the top two. I suspect things will be altered once we see more running backs on the national stage and through this offseason but we aren't close on a five-star, either. Penn State commit Kemon Spell is rocked up and an intriguing prospect who has a little of both Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen in him. A dark horse candidate to move way up would be Martin (Tenn.) Westview's Asa Barnes, who does some amazing things for only being a sophomore and has picked up offers from Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State so far. Nick Lucero/ Ethan 'Boobie' Feaster is the unequivocal leader at the wide receiver position – for now – since reclassification rumors abound so we'll see how that plays out in the coming weeks. Ohio State commit Jamier Brown is next in line and a super talented prospect who can stretch the field but right now Feaster is the lone five-star. In the new slot position, Julius Jones and Trenton Yancey lead the way as smaller but explosive receivers who can make plays. Las Vegas (Nev.) Arbor View's Damani Warren has some of the best film you'll find in the 2027 Rivals250 and he's an incredible athlete but he's also coming off an injury which might limit his offseason. Pflugerville (Texas) Weiss' Tre Moore is moving up fast and Alabama commit Alexander Ward is someone to watch as well. But after Feaster, is there a clear five-star receiver in this group? Not sure yet. Trey'Dez Green ended up as the No. 1 tight end in the 2024 Rivals250 so if we think Ahmad Hudson is nearly a carbon copy of Green then why wouldn't we put the Ruston, La., standout tops at the position as well? And we also expect Hudson to end up at LSU like Green, although Texas A&M and others are involved. There is still some learning to be done at this position as the last two tight end classes have been absolutely loaded. The Midwest stays well-represented at this position with Brock Williams from Libertyville, Ill., and then Sacramento (Calif.) Grant's Rahzario Edwards could also keep moving up if he shows up to some regional and national events. There is still a lot to figure out when it comes to the offensive tackle position as Qua Ford leads the way and has the highest ranking. Kaeden Scott shined at the Navy National Combine and shot all the way up to second on the list. That speaks to just how much movement could still come at the position as we see more 2027 offensive linemen this offseason. One thing is for sure: Chandler Basha's Jake Hildebrand is a very talented prospect and will remain high on this list. To no one's surprise, the state of Texas is loaded with massive offensive tackles in this class. On the inside (we now combine guards and centers into one ranking), Albert Simien from Lake Charles (La.) Sam Houston leads the way but there is plenty of room for a lot of movement coming up after this offseason. Defensive end and edge are absolutely loaded in this class and it should reflect in the rankings as No. 1 overall LaDamion Guyton and third overall Richard Wesley are dominant forces along the defensive line. More five-stars could definitely be on the way with KJ Green and a host of other four-stars at edge and then Recarder Kitchen, David Jacobs and many other high four-stars at defensive end leading the way. Defensive tackle still needs some time to shake out. Ackerman (Miss.) Choctaw County had high four-star receiver Caleb Cunningham last recruiting cycle and now defensive tackle Ben'Jarvius Shumaker leads the way as Ole Miss and Mississippi State could battle it out for him. It's a strong group but not a surefire five-star at DT yet. Mobile (Ala.) Williamson's Ellis McGaskin is on top in the linebacker rankings as LSU leads in his recruitment. Max Brown, whose brother Sammy starred at Clemson during his freshman season, is second on the list. Many more four-stars have been added at linebacker for this rankings release so there could still be a ton of movement after we see more of these prospects on the road this offseason. Tustin, Calif., four-star Taven Epps has moved down from safety to linebacker as he's grown bigger but he still can move so well. Other than the defensive end positions, defensive back is absolutely loaded and might even be better. Led by new five-star cornerbacks Duvay Williams from Gardena (Calif.) Serra and Havon Finney Jr. out of Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon, the cornerback position has tons of great players. More five-stars could be added as Kenton Dopson and others have already shined this offseason. Our new nickel position is definitely an interesting one to add as the game evolves and Omarii Sanders is on top. He's big and hits like a truck as he covers in space. At safety, there are no five-stars yet but Jayquan Snell leads the way among an impressive group. Nick Lucero/ A lot of the players in the athlete category are legitimate two-way standouts but there are also some where we're trying to figure out which position they'll end up at once they get to college. Top athlete Myson Johnson-Cook could be on either side of the ball, Kesean Bowman could be a receiver or a defensive back and on and on. It's not a knock to be ranked in the athlete category as some could play on offense, some on defense and some both ways.
