Georgia football makes major move for nation's No. 1 recruit

The Georgia Bulldogs have offered a scholarship to elite quarterback recruit Elijah Haven. Haven attended a camp at UGA and impressed the Georgia coaching staff. Haven, a rising junior, is a member of the class of 2027.
Haven is the top-ranked recruit in the class of 2027, according to 247Sports. In the 247Sports Composite, he is ranked as a five-star recruit and the top quarterback in the country. The 6-foot-5, 215-pound quarterback plays high school football for the Dunham School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Haven plays football right in the LSU Tigers' backyard, so it may be tough to lure the talented quarterback away from the Tigers.

"After a great camp and conversation with Coach Bobo, I am proud to say I have been offered a scholarship by the University of Georgia!" Haven said via social media.

Another interesting factor for Georgia in the class of 2027 is that the Dawgs already have a commitment from five-star quarterback Jared Curtis. However, we'll wait until December to see if Georgia signs Curtis.
Haven is a good athlete and also plays high school basketball. This year, he has received scholarship offers from Jackson State, Duke, Florida State and Houston.
The talented passer was named as the 2024 MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year. As a sophomore, he completed over 60% of his passes and threw for 37 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Haven is mobile. He ran for 925 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns during this spectacular 2024 season as well. Haven helped Dunham School advance all the way to the state championship as a sophomore.

James Pearce, other Falcons went "a little too far" in practice scuffles Sunday

Falcons first-round pick James Pearce was in the middle of the fray during Sunday's training camp practice. Pearce scuffled with left guard Matthew Bergeron and right tackle Kaleb McGary on back-to-back plays during a drill pitting the first-team offense against the second-team defense. Pearce's fellow edge rusher Leonard Floyd got involved both times as well and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich said after the session that the rookie's "anger got the best of him a little bit. "We're trying to develop a culture, a style of play for sure, and part of that is the violence with which we play and aggression, the urgency and all that," defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich said, via Marc Raimondi of "Today, at times, it went a little too far and we've got to learn how to manage that. You're going to get agitated and, especially when you're playing really good defense, the offense is going to get very agitated, so you've got to anticipate punches being thrown, things being said, people getting pushed. In those moments, you got to thrive and not retaliate and so it's a good lesson to be learned today." The Falcons are over a week away from their first preseason game, so Pearce and the rest of the club are going to have to try to find ways to make cooler heads prevail for a little while longer before they'll have a chance to let out their aggression on players in other jerseys.

DJ Chark turning heads at Falcons camp

The paint isn't even dry on his new contract, but DJ Chark is already making noise in Atlanta. The Falcons shared a quick clip on social media showing the veteran wide receiver hauling in a clean over-the-shoulder grab during practice, adding a fire emoji and tagging the receiver like a proud hype man. A simple post sharing on (formerly Twitter) showing the support on the new signee of the team bringing excitement to fans of what he could be next to the already star studded receiving corps. With questions surrounding Atlanta's wide receiver room outside of Drake London, Chark's performance in camp could be one of the under-the-radar storylines worth watching. He's been a starter in this league. He's gone for 1,000 yards. And when healthy, he's still one of the fastest, most vertical threats in the league. The connection with rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. could be a key subplot heading into preseason. Whether he ends up as WR2 or a deep-threat specialist, Chark's ability to stretch the field adds another layer to a retooled Falcons offense. It's just one catch. One rep. One tweet. But for a team looking to bounce back and turn potential into production, moments like these are exactly how you start to build trust. Chark's heating up. The Falcons took notice. So should the rest of the league.

Braves acquire Erick Fedde from Cardinals to reinforce pitching staff

ATLANTA – With the Atlanta Braves' entire Opening Day starting rotation currently on the injured list, they traded for Erick Fedde from the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday to likely fill one of the vacancies for the rest of the season. The Braves didn't give up anything in the trade for the veteran right-hander, and the Cardinals are sending cash to help cover part of the approximate $2.5 million remaining on his contract. The Cardinals had designated him for assignment last week. The #Braves today acquired RHP Erick Fedde and cash considerations from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta transferred RHP Grant Holmes to the 60-day injured list. — Atlanta Braves (@Braves) July 27, 2025 Fedde, 32, is 3-10 with a 5.22 ERA in 20 starts, with just 63 strikeouts and 47 walks, along with 14 homers allowed, in 101 2/3 innings. He's been particularly ineffective in recent starts, going 0-4 with an alarming 13.25 ERA in his last five starts before the DFA. Atlanta placed Grant Holmes on the 15-day IL after he felt tightness in his elbow during Saturday's start, then transferred him to the 60-day IL Sunday, meaning his season is over and he'll consult with doctors about findings from initial tests. Advertisement The Braves already had all other members of their season-opening rotation on the 60-day IL: Chris Sale (rib cage fracture), Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), Reynaldo López (shoulder surgery) and A.J. Smith-Shawver (Tommy John surgery). Sale could pitch again this season, but Smith-Shawver will not and it's uncertain whether Schwellenbach or López will. Provided Atlanta can help reduce the amount of hard contact, Fedde is built to provide rotation depth. The Cardinals originally acquired Fedde from the Chicago White Sox in eight-player deal that also saw Tommy Edman and Michael Kopech join the Los Angeles Dodgers during last year's deadline.
