ESPN's Cole Cubelic thinks Georgia LB could win SEC defensive player of the year
The edge defender position at Georgia saw a dip in NFL talent in recent years after the departures of Travon Walker, Nolan Smith, and Robert Beal, but the tide has turned. Mykel Williams and Jalon Walker recently showcased elite talent, leading to both being selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. Walker's exceptional performance was further recognized when he earned the 2024 Butkus Award. Georgia had to dip into the transfer portal to try to find a great edge rusher for the 2025 season. The Dawgs think they found one in Elo Modozie. "I am glad you mentioned motor, Randall Cobb, because this young man (Elo Modozie), if it is back in coverage, if it is back side of a run play, if it is 50 yards down the field, it does not matter," SEC Network college football expert Cubelic said. "He has the ability to rush the passer, bend the edge with speed and flexibility, he will go get a play on the opposite side of the field." "I think he is the perfect fit to give Georgia something they did not have when he was added to the roster. I think he can handle another 12-15 pounds on to his frame as well. When you think about that mentality, where he is coming from, into that Georgia defense, it really is a perfect mix for him to put up a dominant season for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs." Cueblic has expectations that are high and has Modozie, an Army Black Knights transfer, winning SEC defensive player of the year. Modozie's final season at Army was impactful, as he recorded 34 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. Over his two-year career with the Black Knights, he accumulated a total of 43 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. His production will be much needed now that the edge position for Georgia is inexperienced outside of Gabe Harris. Follow UGAWire on Instagram or Threads!

Georgia Bulldogs spring transfer expected to make major impact
The Georgia Bulldogs were aggressive on the spring transfer portal additions, and they were able to get a high-profile add in Army Black Knights linebacker Elo Modozie. According to Pete Nakos of On3, Georgia LB Elo Modozie was ranked as the 10th most impactful transfer portal addition of the spring window, which is now closed. Modozie, a four-star recruit from the class of 2023, played with Army for two seasons. In those two seasons, he increased his sacks totals from one in 2023 to 6.5 in 2024, showing some legitimate pass-rush upside. Modozie recorded more sacks last season thank any other player on Georgia's roster and should make an immediate impact as a pass rusher and one special teams. Advertisement He has also been a special teams ace, blocking a punt for a touchdown in Army's win over Holy Cross in 2023. Modozie also blocked a field goal against Rice in 2024. Georgia and head coach Kirby Smart love players that are willing to contribute on special teams. Modozie joins UCF offensive lineman Waltclaire Flynn Jr., Illinois running back Josh McCray and Miami defensive lineman Joshua Horton as spring transfer portal additions for the Bulldogs. Georgia has the 24th best transfer portal class in the nation, per 247Spors and that's largely due to their spring transfers.
