Georgia football adds three elite transfers
The Georgia Bulldogs have made a major splash in the spring transfer portal. Georgia has signed a trio of talented, experienced transfers in Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Josh Horton, Illinois Fighting Illini running back Josh Horton and Army Black Knights pass rusher Elo Modozie.
The trio addresses three separate areas of need for the Bulldogs that UGA and head coach Kirby Smart did not add during the winter transfer portal window. Georgia desperately needed some pass rush help. The Bulldogs lost over 75% of their sack production from last season and returns just eight combined sacks from last season.
Army outside linebacker Elo Modozie
Army transfer Elo Modozie is one of the top available players in the transfer portal. Modozie posted 34 tackles and 6.5 sacks last year for an Army team that went 12-2. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound linebacker is from Saint Augustine, Florida, and has played in 25 career games.
Modozie is a former track athlete with excellent athleticism. He is projected to be one of Georgia's top outside linebackers this fall. Modozie has two seasons of eligibility left
Miami defensive lineman Josh Horton
Miami transfer Josh Horton has no career sacks, but he has eight games of college football experience and good size. He posted four tackles in five games last season and was limited by injuries.
The 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive lineman played high school football at Langston Hughes High School in Georgia and won a 7A state championship. He recorded 123 tackles and four sacks as a senior and was ranked as a four-star recruit coming out of high school. Horton has three seasons of eligibility left.
Illinois running back Josh McCray
Illinois transfer Josh McCray brings size and power to the Georgia running back room. McCray, who has one season of eligibility left, was one of the top running backs available in the transfer portal.
As a junior, McCray posted 117 carries for 609 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns (tied for No. 9 in the Big Ten) in 2024. He also added 13 receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown. He had a career-best outing in Illinois' Cheez-It Bowl win over South Carolina when he ran for 114 yards on 13 carries and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns.
The 6-foot-1, 235-pound running back projects to be UGA's No. 2 running back behind Nate Frazier. McCray has some injury history (missed numerous games in 2022 and 2023) and will help replace Branson Robinson, who is expected to leave via the transfer portal.

Richmond and Western Bulldogs players under fire over 'comical' post-match move
Debate has erupted around the AFL world around the subject of guards of honour after Western Bulldogs players joined their Melbourne Demons rivals to celebrate Ed Langdon's 200-game milestone at the MCG on Sunday. Richmond's players also formed an honour guard with their St Kilda counterparts to mark the same milestone for Saints captain Jack Steele over the weekend, in scenes that have left many footy fans scratching their heads. Former AFL premiership winner Kane Cornes has been one of the most vocal critics on the issue in recent years. And he shares an opinion held by many footy fans that guards of honour should only be reserved for retiring champions or to mark milestones for stars who've played at least 300 games. Cornes took to SEN radio on Monday morning to express his frustration with the situation after labelling it 'comical' to see opposition players from the Bulldogs and Tigers forming a guard of honour for the 200-game milestone men. The Port Adelaide great believes it's an illustration of how the modern game has become 'soft' and questioned where the line would be drawn on future player milestones. 'I saw some extraordinary scenes on the weekend, scenes that I actually cannot believe,' Cornes said on SEN's Fireball. 'How soft has the game become? What is going on? I saw two teams hang around post-match on the ground line up and give guards of honour for game 200. 'I'm not talking Steele Sidebottom 350, I'm not talking last ever game Sam Docherty, I'm not talking game 300. I'm talking game 200. The Western Bulldogs lining up for Ed Langdon is as comical as I've seen, and Richmond lining up for Jack Steele is completely comical. 'So game 300 is the limit or a significant player's retirement. Where to next? 150? 100? First gamers get a chair off? Who has decided to line up for Jack Steele? Ed Langdon? You should say 'well done' and shake his hand, wish him well on his milestone, but we're not giving him a guard of honour. 'Who signed off on the guards of honour? Steam was coming out of my ears. People say relax and don't let things affect you, but they do. We've just become so soft.' The two incidents come in stark contrast to the scenes at Perth's Optus Stadium over the weekend, where Adelaide's players were conspicuously absent when Liam Duggan was chaired from the field in front of a guard of honour from his West Coast teammates. RELATED: West Coast coach questions St Kilda legend over shock oversight AFL world divided over startling development around James Hird Sad blow for Dermott Brereton and family after brutal scenes Footy fans hit out as AFL guard of honour debate erupts The absence of the Crows players sparked some backlash around the footy world but it soon emerged that Adelaide's players did offer to be part of the 200-game guard of honour. Footy commentator Tim Gossage told SEN that Crows skipper Jordan Dawson spoke with West Coast integrity officer Peter Staples about hanging around on ground after the game, but they were given the Eagles' blessing to leave. However, the incidents have thrust the topic of honour guards firmly back into the AFL spotlight, with footy fans divided over the issue. While many believe 200-game milestones should be celebrated, most agree that a banner for the player or chair from the field by teammates is suffice and that both teams should only share in a guard of honour for the truly momentous occasions. Well done but 200 isn't a guard of honour job — DBPC (@DeathByPC) August 11, 2025 Don't need an opposition guard of honour for 2 club 200 game player. — Freo ⚓ Pope (@FreoPope) August 10, 2025 Exactly, that would be reserved for a 300 game player, a 200 game player would get a banner to run through but not a guard of honour. — Johnhenry60 (@Johnhenry64780) August 10, 2025 Guard of honour for 200ths, give me a spell! — Brad Parts (@Bradparts58) August 10, 2025 Good player, chair off fine, not sure about guard of honour — Andrew Mock 🐯 (@amock18) August 10, 2025 Losing their touch. That's 8-9 seasons of AFL. Will be giving out chair off guard of honours like hot cakes soon at that rate — Shane (@boostar83) August 10, 2025

3 Big Ten Uniforms Named Perfect, "They're 10/10" originally appeared on The Spun. Three Big Ten football uniforms have been named "perfect" with 10/10 rankings heading into the 2025 college football regular season. The 2025 college football regular season is right around the corner. Games are set to begin later in August. The first big-time matchup is set for Saturday, Aug. 30, when Ohio State takes on Texas in a potential No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown at The Horseshoe in Columbus. There's a lot to love about college football, with the games being No. 1, obviously, but the uniforms - and pageantry - are not far behind. Which Big Ten football uniforms are the best, though? One NBC analyst has labeled three uniforms 10/10 heading into the 2025 season. An NBC analyst has labeled three Big Ten football uniforms "perfect" heading into the 2025 season. There's one big surprise. Minnesota Yes, the Golden Gophers - not what you would think of when you think of iconic Big Ten uniforms - were given a perfect 10/10 rating by the NBC football analyst. "Maroon and gold, underrated combination," he said. Former Ohio State football star Joshua Perry didn't really agree, though. He called it "aggressive" and we'd have to agree. Oregon The Ducks are synonymous with great college football uniforms, so it's no surprise that their throwback green and yellow uniform gets a 10/10 rating from the NBC analyst. Still, not everyone loves them, as they can be a bit much in the eyes of some fans. "No matter what combination, this is a 10/10," he said of Oregon's uniforms. USC Most would probably think that Ohio State or Michigan would get the final 10/10 spot here, given their history, but instead, it goes to the Trojans. It's an iconic college football uniform, to be sure. The colors pop on TV, especially when they are playing their rival, UCLA. How would you rank college football's top uniforms when it comes to the Big Ten Conference in 2025? Sound off below. 3 Big Ten Uniforms Named Perfect, "They're 10/10" first appeared on The Spun on Aug 10, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 10, 2025, where it first appeared.

What Jeff Lebby loved about Mississippi State football's first preseason scrimmage
STARKVILLE — No defensive players were left behind during Mississippi State football's walk from the practice facility to Davis Wade Stadium on Aug. 10. The unit made sure everyone was ready before trekking to the stadium together for the first scrimmage of MSU's preseason. The scrimmage was closed to the public, including reporters, but second-year coach Jeff Lebby said that connectedness was the start of what was an encouraging performance by the defense. 'What I loved was defensively finding ways to create turnovers and some negative plays,' he said afterward. 'That, for me, was a great thing to see from the defensive side of the ball. They got their hands on the ball, made plays, created some huge momentum plays in the scrimmage. That was good to see.' Lebby didn't single out any players except for one: Kelley Jones. The redshirt sophomore cornerback, according to Lebby, had a scoop-and-score touchdown of '50-60 yards.' Jones is expected to be a starter for the Bulldogs' defense, which allowed an SEC-worst 34.1 points per game in 2024. On the opposite end, that means the Bulldogs' offense didn't limit turnovers. 'Today, the frustrating thing offensively was not taking care of the ball,' Lebby said. 'We did some really good things. We created a couple of explosives. We did some decent things in the run game, but turnovers were the storyline today. The ball is the program, and we've got to make sure we're doing a great job taking care of it. We've done a pretty good job of it throughout fall camp and doing that nine practices in.' Mississippi State doesn't have many injuries, says Jeff Lebby Lebby added that MSU is generally healthy as the first game of the season nears, at Southern Miss on Aug. 30 (11 a.m. CT, ESPN). Lots of eyes are on starting quarterback Blake Shapen, who missed the last eight games of 2024 with a fractured scapula. He has been a full participant since the start of spring practices. Sophomore defensive tackle Kai McClendon was the only player to miss the most recent practice that was open to the media, on Aug. 8, but he was already out with a torn ACL. Michigan State transfer wide receiver Jaron Glover was the only player in that practice wearing a non-contact jersey. 'We are healthy, so that's a great thing,' Lebby said. 'Really, as you look at it nine days into camp, I think our guys have taken it to the culture of recovery and finding time to make sure they're doing everything they possibly can to get themselves ready for the next day's practice. I think the growth in that has been fun to see and been really good.' Why Mississippi State is scrimmaging differently in Jeff Lebby's second season The Bulldogs have harped numerous times about their improved depth compared to last season. It has helped them be able to practice differently. That's translated into the scrimmages, too, Lebby said. He cautioned that the defense could be ahead of the offense now because seven of the 10 spring transfers play offense. MORE: When are Mississippi State vs Ole Miss basketball games in 2025-26? SEC schedule released 'I think the cool thing is that we are getting more guys getting more reps,' he said. 'There's more tape to watch, there's more film and there's more going on because we, from a roster standpoint, have been able to practice how we need to practice just to give ourselves a chance.'
