Netflix (NFLX) Partners With Brazilian Tourism Board to Turn Hit Shows Into Travel Boosters
Netflix (NFLX, Financials) is teaming up with Brazil's tourism agency Embratur to promote travel through the power of TV. The partnership, announced Friday at the Rio2C creative festival, aims to turn scenes from popular Netflix shows into invitations to visit Brazil. Warning! The streaming giant and Embratur plan to release a travel guide later this year, inspired by hit series set across the countryfrom the Amazon rainforest in Invisible City to the beaches of Bahia featured in Love Is Blind Brazil. Embratur's Marcelo Freixo said many travelers choose destinations based on what they've watched, and Brazil wants to harness that to boost tourism. Netflix and Brazilian Tourism Board Embratur Announce Cooperation Agreement to Boost Film-TV Tourism in Brazil
RIO DE JANEIRO – Netflix and Embratur, the Brazilian Tourism Board, announced Friday a cooperation agreement aimed at boosting tourism through Brazilian audiovisual productions, establishing a model which could be used in other countries. Embratur President Marcelo Freixo and Netflix Director of Public Policy for Brazil Mariana Polidorio announced the deal during a panel at Rio2C, Latin America's largest creativity event that is running over May 27 to June 1 in Rio. The panel also counted on Fernanda Souza, host of Netflix hit reality show 'Stranded With My Mother-In-Law.' Inspired by the success of some of Netflix's biggest plays in countries such as France and Spain, the initiative takes in a promotional video which plays on the tourist potential of settings from productions that have captivated global audiences – such as 'Invisible City,' lensed in the Amazon rainforest, or 'Love Is Blind Brazil,' with seasons shot at destinations such as Trancoso, Bahia, and Bom Jardim da Serra, Santa Catarina, nd 'Sintonia,' highlighting the urban landscapes of São Paulo's outskirts. 'Audiovisual content is a powerful tool and a key asset for tourism promotion. Many people choose their travel destinations based on a movie or series they've watched. Brazilian content and talent are globally recognized for their quality, they carry our cultural identity, and they continue to win hearts all over the world. This partnership is a way to turn the strength of Brazilian stories into real-life connections,' said Freixo said. ‘Wednesday' Season 2 Clip Reveals Haley Joel Osment as a Doll-Collecting Serial Killer
Fresh foes and woes await Wednesday Addams this August. Netflix released a clip of the first six minutes of 'Wednesday' Season 2 at fan event Tudum on Saturday — which revealed that Haley Joel Osment will be playing a serial killer called the Kansas City Scalper. 'I'm tied up in a serial killer's basement. Who said nightmares don't come true?' Wednesday (Jenna Oretga) says at the beginning of the clip, surrounded by creepy dolls. In voice-over, she goes on to explain that she spent her summer vacation hunting down the Kansas City Scalper. After she confronts him, he restrains her, then shows her a doll he's made to look like her. 'Let me show you some of my own handiwork,' she says before using her psychic abilities to free herself and attack him.
