KUALA LUMPUR: A participant of the Pas-led rally in Dataran Merdeka here was rushed to the hospital after she experienced shortness of breath. A Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operation centre spokesman said checks showed the woman, in her 30s, was found to have low blood sugar. "She received preliminary treatment at the scene before she was rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital by the Fire and Rescue Department's Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit," the spokesman in the statement. It was previously reported that police anticipated a turnout of between 10,000 and 15,000 people at today's rally. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail had also said that the police would facilitate the assembly.

KOTA BELUD: A married couple was found burnt to death in a house fire at Kampung Sangkir, here, early Thursday. The victims were discovered in the bathroom of the single-storey house, which was completely destroyed. Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Assistant Fire Supt Elge Bakuk, said they received a distress call at 2.52am. 'A team of 10 firefighters, along with one fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, was dispatched to the scene. 'Upon arrival, the house was already engulfed in flames. A sedan car, believed to be a Proton Saga, was also destroyed in the fire,' he said. After the fire was brought under control at 3.22am, firefighters discovered the charred remains of the husband and wife in the bathroom. Elge said the operation used one water line with two hoses, drawing water from the fire engine. 'The bodies were handed over to the police for further action, including a post-mortem at the Kota Belud Hospital Forensic Unit,' he added. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The operation ended at 4.55am after ensuring the area was safe and free of other hazards. KOTA BELUD: A married couple was found burnt to death in a house fire that broke out in Kampung Sangkir early this morning. The victims, Mamat @ Jamrin Sinti and his wife, Noorijah Rashid, both aged 47, were discovered in the bathroom of the property. District Fire and Rescue station chief Elge Bakuk said an emergency call was received at 2.52am. A team of 10 personnel, along with a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, was dispatched to the scene to carry out firefighting operations. "Upon arrival, the fire had fully engulfed a single-storey permanent structure. A Proton Saga parked nearby was also destroyed in the blaze. "After the fire was brought under control at 3.22am, two victims were found burnt in the bathroom," he said when contacted today. He added that the operation used one hose line and two jets, with water sourced from the fire engine. "The victims' remains were handed over to the police for further action. Once it was confirmed that there were no other hazards at the site, the operation concluded at 4.55am," he said. Meanwhile, district police chief Superintendent Shahrudin Mat Husain said the couple's remains were taken to the Forensic Unit of Kota Belud Hospital for a post-mortem examination. "The man worked as a rubber tapper. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department," he said.

JITRA: An elderly man survived a narrow brush with death after his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a lorry at a junction in Jalan Pekan Jitra earlier today (July 14). The 76-year-old man sustained minor injuries when his Honda EX5 collided with a lorry near a bank at the traffic intersection. Jitra Fire and Rescue Department chief Noor Azhar Tajudin said they received a distress call regarding the incident at 9.13am. "A team of eight personnel, along with an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, was despatched to the scene and arrived within four minutes," he said in a statement today. Upon arrival, the team found the victim conscious, but slightly injured. He was administered first aid before being handed over to Health Ministry paramedics for further treatment. The operation ended at 9.30am.

KOTA BELUD: Sixteen residents lost their home when a fire destroyed a two-storey house in Kampung Labuan here at 3pm on Wednesday. There were no injuries or fatalities reported. Advertisement Kota Belud District Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent Elgie Bakuk, said the department received an emergency call at 3.06pm and seven personnel were dispatched to the scene with one fire engine and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) utility vehicle. He said upon arrival the firefighters found a semi-permanent house 70 per cent razed. 'The flames spread rapidly, but all 16 residents, including two young children escaped unharmed. But property and some important documents belonging to the residents could not be saved, he said. Elgie the firemen prevented the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
