Klobuchar rebuffs Trump's efforts to fault Dems in Epstein case

Backlash — largely from inside Trump's MAGA base — teed off when the White House announced in early July that a Department of Justice and FBI review had found no evidence of an incriminating client list connected to Epstein. Trump, whose return to the White House was keyed in part by a willingness to embrace conspiracy theories like the ones surrounding Epstein, has been keen to move on. But the furor has seen some of Trump's biggest supporters calling for the ouster of his attorney general, Pam Bondi, and predicting dire consequences lest he begin to take it seriously. The president, meanwhile, has raged. 'Radical left Democrats,' Trump said in a Truth Social post Wednesday, were responsible for the 'Jeffrey Epstein Hoax.' And they'd refrained from making any moves during Joe Biden's presidency, he said. 'If there was a 'smoking gun' on Epstein, why didn't the Dems, who controlled the 'files' for four years, and had Garland and Comey in charge, use it? BECAUSE THEY HAD NOTHING!!!,' the president wrote on social media Friday. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), one of several House Republicans who have called for the release of the government's Epstein files, echoed Trump's attacks against Democrats in a Sunday interview also on Tapper's show. 'Where the heck have they been the last four years? I'm ticked off at everybody,' he said. 'Look, this thing should have been handled. Now we're at the point they're going to start dumping files.' Klobuchar rejected claims that Democrats bore responsibility for the controversy. The White House, she said, had entered into a crisis of its own making. 'The people that have been fomenting this are right-wing influencers, members of Congress, people who have a reason that they want to know what's in there,' Klobuchar told Tapper. 'They believe the president when he said, there's stuff in there that people should see.'

In his latest Truth Social post, the President was in a grumpy Trumpy mood railing against the Wall Street Journal and its boss Rupert Murdoch. The Australian mogul got not one, not two, but three tirades. Fake Claims 'I look forward to getting Rupert Murdoch to testify in my lawsuit against him and his 'pile of garbage' newspaper, the WSJ. That will be an interesting experience!!!' Trump wrote. This post came hot on the heels of another red-faced Trump tantrum. 'The Wall Street Journal printed a FAKE letter, supposedly to Epstein. These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don't draw pictures. I told Rupert Murdoch it was a Scam, that he shouldn't print this Fake Story. But he did, and now I'm going to sue his ass off, and that of his third rate newspaper. Thank you for your attention to this matter! DJT' That post came hot on the heels of this diatribe. 'The Wall Street Journal, and Rupert Murdoch, personally, were warned directly by President Donald J. Trump that the supposed letter they printed by President Trump to Epstein was a FAKE and, if they print it, they will be sued. Mr. Murdoch stated that he would take care of it but, obviously, did not have the power to do so. The Editor of The Wall Street Journal, Emma Tucker, was told directly by Karoline Leavitt, and by President Trump, that the letter was a FAKE, but Emma Tucker didn't want to hear that. Instead, they are going with a false, malicious, and defamatory story anyway. President Trump will be suing The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Mr. Murdoch, shortly. The Press has to learn to be truthful, and not rely on sources that probably don't even exist. President Trump has already beaten George Stephanopoulos/ABC, 60 Minutes/CBS, and others, and looks forward to suing and holding accountable the once great Wall Street Journal. Filthy Rag It has truly turned out to be a 'Disgusting and Filthy Rag' and, writing defamatory lies like this, shows their desperation to remain relevant. If there were any truth at all on the Epstein Hoax, as it pertains to President Trump, this information would have been revealed by Comey, Brennan, Crooked Hillary, and other Radical Left Lunatics years ago. It certainly would not have sat in a file waiting for 'TRUMP' to have won three Elections. This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS!' Feel-good Fridays are clearly not a thing in President Trump's world. Despite getting a dressing down today, News Corp has performed well since Trump returned to power in January. Trump requests release of Epstein grand jury transcripts amid report of ‘bawdy' birthday note

Donald Trump said on Thursday he had directed his attorney general, Pam Bondi, to seek the release of grand jury testimony related to Jeffrey Epstein's sex-trafficking case as he sought to tamp down controversy over a story that he allegedly contributed a sketch of a naked woman to Epstein's 50th birthday album. Related: Trump directs attorney general Pam Bondi to release Epstein grand jury testimony – US politics live The president said on Truth Social he had authorized the justice department to seek the public release of the materials, which are under seal, citing 'the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein'. Bondi, who has weathered days of accusations by Trump's far-right supporters that she had mismanaged and failed to deliver on promises to release previously secret documents about the Epstein case, responded to Trump's post with a post of her own that vowed to comply with the directive. The flurry of activity followed a story in the Wall Street Journal that reported Trump had contributed a letter, described as 'bawdy' and featuring a drawing of a naked woman's silhouette around a typewritten personal message to Epstein, to the birthday album compiled by Ghislane Maxwell. 'A pair of small arcs denotes the woman's breasts, and the future president's signature is a squiggly 'Donald' below her waist, mimicking pubic hair,' the Journal said of the alleged drawing. It added the letter concluded: 'Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret.' Trump denied to the Journal that he was the author of the birthday tribute and, hours after the story was published, announced he intended to file a lawsuit in a lengthy post on Truth Social, decrying the reporting as fake and condemning it as what he called 'the Epstein Hoax'. The president said in the post that he had personally told Rupert Murdoch and the Journal's editor-in-chief Emma Tucker that the letter was fake and that he would sue if a story about the letter was published. 'Mr Murdoch stated that he would take care of it but obviously did not have the power to do so,' Trump wrote. 'Instead they are going with a false, malicious, defamatory story anyway. President Trump will be suing the Wall Street Journal, News Corp and Mr Murdoch shortly.' The statement from Trump followed attempts by the president and White House officials to try to undercut the story, including by pressing the Journal to furnish a copy of the letter, which it did not provide, according to people familiar with the matter. As the existence of the story became increasingly known in Washington, whether the story would run and whether Trump would actually draw a figure of a woman became something of a parlor game between administration officials and Trump allies and reporters alike. The outlet conceded it was not clear how the letter with Trump's signature was prepared, but said it contained a typewritten note said to be styled as an imaginary conversation between Trump and Epstein. The note reportedly began: 'Voice Over: There must be more to life than having everything,' the note began. Donald: Yes, there is, but I won't tell you what it is. Jeffrey: Nor will I, since I also know what it is. Donald: We have certain things in common, Jeffrey. Jeffrey: Yes, we do, come to think of it. Donald: Enigmas never age, have you noticed that? Jeffrey: As a matter of fact, it was clear to me the last time I saw you. Donald: A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret. The Journal reported that Maxwell collected letters from Trump and dozens of Epstein's other associates, including L Brands owner Les Wexner, for the 2003 birthday album, three years before Epstein was ever investigated for sexual misconduct. The Journal also reported that the leather-bound album was among the documents examined by officials with the justice department who investigated Epstein and Maxwell at that time. Among others who appear to have submitted birthday greetings to the compilation was Epstein attorney Alan Dershowitz and Wexner, who allegedly contributed a message 'I wanted to get you what you want … so here it is … ' along with a line drawing that the Journal said was 'of what appeared to be a woman's breasts'. Wexner declined to comment through a spokesman. Dershowitz told the Journal: 'It's been a long time and I don't recall the content of what I may have written.' The 2003 birthday album with Trump's birthday wishes comes a year before Trump offered his commendation of Epstein in a 2002 New York magazine profile. 'I've known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy,' Trump told the publication. 'He's a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it – Jeffrey enjoys his social life.' But in recent days, as the Epstein controversy had heated up after years of laying dormant, Trump has sought to steer Maga Republicans away from the subject, calling it a 'hoax'. JD Vance sprang to Trump's defense on Thursday night. 'Forgive my language but this story is complete and utter bullshit. The WSJ should be ashamed for publishing it,' Vance wrote on X. 'Where is this letter? Would you be shocked to learn they never showed it to us before publishing it? Does anyone honestly believe this sounds like Donald Trump?'

"Press has to learn to be truthful": US President Trump to sue WSJ for Epstein report

Washington DC [US], July 18 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Friday threatened to sue The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Rupert Murdoch for the Jeffrey Epstein story they published on the Epstein files. The reaction by Trump was catalysed by a report by the Wall Street Journal that the former sent an alleged letter to Epstein, the contents of which were sexually suggestive. The Press has to learn to be truthful, and not rely on sources that probably don't even exist,' Trump said in a post on Truth Social. 'President Trump has already beaten George Stephanopoulos/ABC, 60 Minutes/CBS, and others, and looks forward to suing and holding accountable the once great Wall Street Journal. It certainly would not have sat in a file waiting for 'TRUMP' to have won three Elections. This is yet another example of FAKE NEWS!' Trump said. As per CNN, a collection of letters gifted to Jeffrey Epstein for his 50th birthday in 2003 included a note bearing Donald Trump's name and an outline of a naked woman, according to a Wall Street Journal report published on Thursday (local time). Trump in an interview with the Journal on Tuesday denied that he wrote the letter or drew the picture and threatened to sue the newspaper if it published the story, as per CNN. 'I never wrote a picture in my life. I don't draw pictures of women,' he said, according to the Journal. 'It's not my language. It's not my words.' Epstein, a financier who socialized with a range of politicians and other powerful figures, was charged in 2019 with sex trafficking minors in Florida and New York. He was later found dead in his jail cell. Medical examiners ruled the death a suicide, but the circumstances have since opened a bag of worms, spinning conspiracy theories, as per CNN. (ANI)
